Wind speeds are doubled, changing directions rapidly, i can't fly

Hey all.

I have been able to recreate this issue in multiple planes. One stock plane, one 3rd party plane. SR22 and the Flysimaware 414.

The same thing is happening on both planes, the 414 has a really good display for wind so its the most visual as to what i am experiencing.

The wind speed appears to be always double the value of what is on a wind layer. No matter the altitude of the wind layer, the affect is the same.

The wind shifts in directions rapidly, in clear skies setting.

I can’t fly :frowning: This just started randomly yesterday and I am out of ideas.

Please see the following.

Windows Store Edition
T16000 joystick and logitech throttle quadrant
flight mode is set to modern

If i move the wind layer in few flouds up to the max height, my plane then reports 5 knots. on the ground it reports zero but once I am in the air, its saying 5 knots.

What ever the slider is set to in the weather tab, it shows double in the aircraft I am in.

I can’t remember if it’s actually off by a multiplier or if it’s a discrepancy in units, but yes, what you set in a wind layer is not what you get in the flight

I have a recollection that in the wind layer the numbers are in m/s or kph instead of knots, but I never dug into the details.

is there a fix for this?

You can’t have a fix unless there is a proven error. @BigCow74 just suggested an alternative explanation. I think it’s up to you to show this is actually a bug.

Also “can’t fly” is a total exaggeration.

1 m/s = 1.94384 knots, so maybe my recollection is not so bad

the sim right now, as im flying in is. Is set to clear skies. wind at ground level. i should be flying smooth as butter but im bouncing around non stop. a few days ago, i did fly butter unless it was actual wind.

now, with all wind layers set to zero. Clear skies still.

This is what im getting. have a look at the arrow on the 2nd garmin, that sucker is spinning like im flying through the bermuda triangle. also, im trying to fly level but its bouncing up and down by + or - 50 to 100 climb rate.

I just set Clear Skies, and deleted the single ground level wind layer:

were you airborne?

i have no idea why mine is doing this. i was using OnAir during all of this, could onair cause this issue, even after a fresh re install (admittidly, i didnt uninstall onair from the apps screen on msfs)

i did attempt to rename my community folder to see if it was that, but that didnt do anything either

Yes, I was about 2000ft climbing for 7000ft at the time.

when i do that, i show 5 knots or more, and its bouncing around. during my climb while using VS set to 500. it will jump up and down from 500 to 700, to 400, etc.

I get thermals, and etc etc.

This is not that. I’ve been on the sim since day 1 and this is the first time this has happened. I uninstalled onair, and im doing a full reinstall of msfs.

So it sounds like we’ve established it’s a problem with your install of the game only. Now you just have to debug and figure out why. You said you removed all addons, and this is just the stock game?

fresh install, just loaded up and its doing the same.

wind layer on the ground is currently set to 5 knots.

indicated is bouncing between 9 and 11. Along with my plane bouncing around.

I dont really know what else to do now.

Do you get that bouncing around when you fly over water? Perhaps you are seeing the result of terrain you are flying over.

i went out over the water and things did smooth up.

I’m back out flying right now in alaska. Current height is 10,000, im currently max throttle, climbing at 200fpm. im steadily dropping airspeed and will stall soon.

This is something that has been going on since the wind issue. I am on live weather.

MSFS generates up/downwinds on hills/mountsins and, i guess, also some thermals turbulence when its hot. Dont forget that.

That’s to be expected.

The bit that doesn’t add up for me is why you were seeing such wildly changing wind with no wind layer.

Hello,
I am having the same issue since I have MS FS. Basically changing wind in clear sky does not work (it’s just not showing once flight is started). If I edit in flight then it will be added but it seems to be doubled so it’s unusable. I can confirm that if I set to 30 knots then I will see roughly 60 knots in the ND from the A320.
Also I only set one layer of wind from ground and when going close to ground it’s not steady (even if not obstacles and not adding any gusts).
So is there a solution to add wind layer manually that works to simulate some cross wind landing?
Thanks

Could you post a screenshot of your custom weather wind settings ?
Are you using US/Hybrid/metrics ?
