Hello !
I cloned a C drive (Windows 10 x64) from an old motherboard to an SSD drive with a new motherboard.
Registry level cloning for Microsoft Flight Simulator has gone halfway well!
Let me explain :
- All scenes in Community before cloning can be removed and returned to Community without problem
- Not all new scenes are accepted by Microsoft Flight Simulator: MSFS does not open!
- Content.xml file saves new scenes
What do I need to do in the registry database to make Microsoft Flight Simulator work properly?

How did you clone it? If you cloned the entire filesystem on a block level (the only way which makes it bootable) then the registry was cloned perfectly, as was all files.
I can’t explain these particular issues, but it’s worth knowing that moving Windows installs between different motherboards often is a bad idea; especially so if they use different chipsets or you even switch between AMD and Intel.

Hello !
Thank you for your answer. The cloning was done by a professional Assembler.
The motherboards were from Asus with Intel processors. I went from a DDR3 Motherboard to a DDR4 Motherboard.
On the Virtual Pilot forum I am told that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has hidden files like Flight Simulator X or Prepar3D, or even that the instructions are installed on the Cloud !
How in this case can you make a clean sweep of the tagged instructions of MFS 2020 ?

Are you on the XBOX Game market? If yes it’s painful, I had the same problem, and had to uninstall all and reinstall all after the cloning, and it was just between 2 SSD using same MB. I guess some protection system watching for serial number of HDD or SDD.
I just stopped my XBox GamePass PC as all those Microsoft launcher problem are awful, you can’t mod any games, even adding a simple redshade is not allowed. So I bought MSFS through another patform few minutes ago and uninstalled all XBOX relative stuffs.
Edit : I’m adding if I took this decision today is because I uninstalled another game and discovered the Microsoft launcher didn’t free up the space took on my SDD by the game, and I couldn’t even access to those over protected directories to delete it myself. After trying tons of stuffs to remove it I had to format my disk to retrieve the SDD place. Too much to handle, really angry, bye bye XBOX GamePass
MSFS does not create any registry entries.
The only registry entries are X-box and I believe, MS Store.
So registry shouldn’t be the issue.
Is it just an incompatible scenery?
There are lots of those out there already.
Try deleting your “rolling cache” file.
That will get rid of any old cached scenery that could be affecting you.
I’ll bet this right here is why people have so many problems and CTDs. You can’t clone/move the system drive to a different computer. Reinstall everything.
Hello !
Well the cloning went well, no offense !
TheSevenflyer’s response helped me !
Now everything runs smoothly !

It’s great to hear you are back in the air !
Could you go into the three dots at the bottom of your original post, and mark this as solved?
Good Flights!!
How long does it take to clone everything and have it all properly going again?
