Where my setup will be is about 25’ from my computer and I have a dumb question to start. I’ll be using a powered hub and I wanted to know if I bought a wired mouse does it need to be connected directly to my computer or would it work if connected to my hub??
2nd question: Would you recommend a wired or wireless mouse and which one has worked great for you? (my budget is maybe $60)
If I’m not missing something, I would presume that’s the purpose of a hub? To connect more peripherals to your PC than you might otherwise be able to do?
Go for wireless or wired, it won’t make much difference in my opinion. I have an affordable little wireless thing and it works absolutely fine. It didn’t cost anywhere near $60… not sure it even cost me half that! Buy whatever is most convenient and affordable and practical - the one you listed looks nice and smart, I’d love to have a nice one like that actually (now you have me thinking I want to buy a new mouse!). So don’t over-think it Others may disagree. If you’re gaming in online FPS like Call of Duty, then it might be worth your while getting a good one, because the resolution probably makes a difference.
I’m not sure of all the things I would need the mouse for in MSFS (DCS & some car racing game down the road) so maybe I should ask if this mouse would probably be sufficient for these scenarios?
A good wireless mouse these days is imperceptibly worse than wired, even to those sensitive to input lag (like myself), even for fast-paced shooters.
My Logitech G700s which is something like 8 years old is more than good enough, but that’s a gaming mouse whereas the one you linked isn’t. So even though it’s newer I wouldn’t assume it’s as good.
I prefer a wireless mouse for any computing task. I have a Logitech MX Anywhere 2s. I use it for work, with my personal laptop and for my Flight Sim / Gaming computer.
I was having the same dilemma than you, but I decided to cut the cord and bought the Logitech G903 wireless. It works like a charm, and the fact that is wireless makes a big difference now because I don’t have to worry about location. Also, this mouse comes with a range extender, so you can place it anywhere and you can also use either hand. I love it!
Is a little pricy but you know how the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
What about the 25’ distance? How good of a charge would make a difference as would any other electrnoic devices between the mouse and its receiver. Would a reasonably clear line-of-sight between the two be available?
I have a logitech MX Master wireless. Use it for MSFS and normal computer stuff, but I’m not a gamer. I like these a lot, very comfortable and you can program some of the extra buttons to do what you like.
I use a wireless mouse from Lidl connected to an unpowered hub. I connected the hub with a 5 m USB-cable to my PC and it works flawlesly. Everything without any latency. So does my wireless keyboard, connected to the same unpowered hub. I have my PC connected to my 55” TV and and I sit several meters away from it So the wireless option is perfect for stowing away everything after I shutdown the Sim.
I have the M720 - it replaced my previous logitech wireless mouse a couple of years ago. I can recommend it for ease of use, performance, comfort and solid build. It pairs with the original logitech hub that I used for my first mouse (and the wireless logitech keyboard it came that still works well)
Thanks everyone for your input! Wireless it is! Is RGB backlighting necessary at all for a mouse if I’m in a very dark room or is it just a cool factor?
I use both at the same time. The wireless mouse has a nice roller in the middle that allows me to manipulate knobs easily. The wired mouse is a Track Ball that allows me to move very quickly and precisely. I’ve had no problem having both operating at the same time on two screens.
