With 86 Aircraft Released in the Sim, Why Are Almost All Of Them So...Lame?

I dont know why, twin boom tails just make my pimples hard. Lmao

I disagree with the Arrow being the best piston plane in the sim. The Seneca is my favorite and it goes over 200 KIAS. To say that they are all lame is just plain wrong. Every game is going to have bad addons, you gotta read reviews and make your own decision. This game is clearly not designed for airliners like P3D was, and you have to keep that in mind as well.

Yeah, the world that Asobo managed to create might just be too big for them alone. There are so many places where things could be made better and I share your frustrations. Personally, I suspect that it will take a combination of Asobo and third party developers to fully maximize the potential of the simulator. I’d like to see Asobo continuing to improve the SDK and open up the sim a bit more. I’d especially like to see the ability for third party add-ins to plug in more seamlessly. Anyway, hopefully, the sales keep rolling in and every last x-box owner buys a copy. We definitely want Asobo to keep moving the simulator forward and even 10 years might not be enough.

He’s not making a judgment on the quality of the addons, he’s saying that certain types of addons are inherently “lame” because they are types of plane that don’t personally interest him. The best-implemented addon in the history of flight simulation would still be of no interest to him, apparently, if it cruised at under 200kts. Of course the best addon ever made would be of no interest to me if it was a tubeliner, but I don’t complain that developers are doing something “wrong” when they make tubeliners and should cater to my tastes instead.

If that’s the kind of speed you’re looking for, then most piston singles won’t work for you. But there’s good news! The stock DA62 combined with the DA62X mod from flightsim.to is a little hot-rod. It carries just as many people as the Baron, has comparable range and speed, and does all of this while using about half the fuel. If you want a single-engine plane with that kind of performance, then you’ll need to step up to a t-prop. And you know what? The stock TBM is an outstanding model - especially with the WT G3000 to get a more accurate Garmin setup. (It’s still not complete, but it’s better than stock.)

The Kia Stinger GT is good for just shy of 170 MPH . The Hyundai Velostar N is good for 160 MPH. Just becasue they mainly sell soccer mum cars in the west does not mean much.

GotGravel Vertigo. PT-6 + VL-3 - sharp looking and fast, and 8,000 fpm climb rate will make your eyes water. Max Performance Departure - Everytime. Best of all, it’s quality freeware.

TommyMxr’s DA-62 was mentioned, but has anyone tried his JT-A? A Cessna with a diesel, single power lever, and an actual climb and cruise rate. So easy to make power inputs, and it responds like snapping your fingers. I took this bird on three xc trips across the US Coast-to-Coast, and my first legit bad WX can’t see five feet in front of you ILS Cat I, what a joy.

Abandoned, but still works - Robert Young’s turbo Bonanza mod. Love. It. 190+ knots easy, don’t forget to close the cowl flaps and pick up that extra 5 knots.

The last two with the upcoming Working Title G1000 NXi and the improvements from SU5? I can’t wait for this month to end. Very exciting times.

I guess lame is like lemons. It’s what you make of it.

Very well said. Thank you.

MS wanted more gamers. I guess there is now an increasing market for products of questionable quality that wouldn’t really sell with simmers. I guess MS’ plan is working out.

HAHAH! You made me laugh in a positive way :rofl:! It indeed didn’t stop anyone. Frankly speaking, I don’t understand why the default planes get so much hate? They are without a doubt, and with a huge margin, the best default planes any flightsim ever had, up to this point. It was very clear from the start that default planes won’t be study level, this was clearly communicated. But to think that the planes can be close to study level with community mods, is amazing and deserves more credit imo..The graphics are fantastic and easily Carenado level modelling or beyond. The sounds are pretty good as well. Compared to the trash that we get with Xplane and P3D default versions, we’re in a very good place already, and the aircraft selection is pretty good and diverse!

You’re right of course. If you compare the default airplanes to FSX. Or probably to any other sim.

But that’s about expectations.

If MS / Asobo wanted to raise the bar, the time was now. I seriously do not understand why you would want to blow everyone out of the water with the graphics, the weather, the scenery and then deliver an Airbus that has half of its systems inop and bounces up and down in cruise (I know they fixed that last one).

My point is: we’ve all come to expect no more. So they’re not gonna give us more. I just don’t like that attitude. I understand it’s probably about business and money and Asobo probably should have been 3 times bigger. But they could also very early on have offered PMDG a bundle of money and have a stunning 737 ready, in stead of two cräppy Boeings and a miserable Airbus. Choices…

With the recent appeal for “aircraft experts” by the MSFS development team, perhaps the default aircraft will begin to exceed the current realism of today’s add-on aircraft. This is what I hope for, so that add-on aircraft developers can begin to exceed the realism they have already accomplished.

It would be refreshing if default aircraft were as complex as add-on aircraft, and a sort of “competition” developed. This way everybody can benefit.

Those wanting simple aircraft will not have to be concerned, they will not likely be going away ever. But either way, an excellent realistic rendition of a C152 or similar in scope, should be quite easy to fly on a calm VFR day.

If you can only have five vehicles in Need for Speed / Forza / Gran Turismo, would you rather choose the top five best selling cars in your county?

Would help if Asobo would retouch and finished/fix their premium planes

Exactly. ‘

No. I would choose five cars that covered a broad range of performance numbers so that I had something to cover all types of races.

OP, would you mind posting a link to the aircraft which you’ve released for FS2020? I’m sure that many of us would love to see what you’re creating.

I like “■■■■ cars” like the Mini Cooper in GT Legends, I like “■■■■ planes” too.

The default Cirrus, while not unflyable, is the single biggest reason I opted for the Premium Deluxe edition of MSFS. For me, the Cirrus model is the single biggest disappointment in MSFS. But I’m over it…

I remain hopeful that a good developer (Eaglesoft had a nice G3 Turbo in FSX) will release a modern SR22 that flies to the numbers in the POH. We’ll see…

EDIT: other than Carenado, the only other current developer I can find is this one, and the webpage for model looks pretty good. As I said, I remain hopeful…

I agree, however, I am wondering if they refrain from fixing/polishing existing default/premium planes because it may delay people from purchasing more from the marketplace and that ($$$) is what it is really all about. The more sold in the marketplace means more income to the owner (MS).
