I’m brand new to flight sims. I bought MSFS 2024 on Steam, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, and Logitech pedals, running on WIndows 10 PC. Everything is new to me so I’m in way over my head. I got the hardware configured with default settings. I’m taking the basic Career classes for the Private Pilots License. MSFS automatically uses the C172 for this. Before I bought the peripherals, I passed the Attitude (Pitch), and Turns (Roll) classes with the keyboard. It wasn’t easy but I was able to finish these two short classes. However, with the Alpha yoke and Bravo throttle quadrant, I get about 70% through the lesson and the engine dies and the plane falls out of the sky. I try adjusting throttle and mixture but it doesn’t help. There is something fundamental that I am missing, but I don’t know what it is. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Do you have the magnetos set to both? And not start?
Thanks for the idea, Jason! I did not have the magnetos set at all because I believe that this controlled class was only monitoring the yoke and pedals (since the throttle and mixture has no effect), so I tried the “Turns” class with the magneto set to Both and still stalled and fell out of the sky just as before.
Are you turning off the starter?
Leaving it on can cause this type of issue in the sim.
With the Alpha and Bravo you need to match the switches on the Alpha with the switches in the C172. There are a few good youtube videos on how to map your switches and levers on the Bravo and alpha for 2024.
So, your master battery and alternator switches on the left of your yoke must be in the on position as well as the rotary switch to the right of the yoke, it must be in the “both” position after you have started.
The training sessions still rely on you to have the correct switches on your peripherals switched on. AND the switches and levers in the 172 must also match and be in an operational position. Also many good youtube vids on how to…
Don’t worry too much and relax as you learn, we all start somewhere. Just enjoy the journey it will all be familiar in the end.
