Is there any “OFFICIAL” documentation for the use of the World Map. ?
It first appears obvious … but a little investigation reveals a whole slew of NO SO OBVIOUS features, and "Quirks, that I suspect most have never even “Discovered”.
In particular, the things you need to do, in order to control the order of added waypoints – its far from obvious or intuitive .
Like may other areas of MSFS, and a lot of current software, lots of Hidden features that the Dev has put in (seemed a good idea at the time), but then never bothered (for permitted to spent the time), to document those feature, making the inclusion of those feature, almost useless.
I suspect many of us are using other Flight Planning tools, that may, or may not produce flight plans that are fully MSFS compatible, or have found they have to pass their flight-plan through an App like LNM, in order to format it to something that MSFS can currently correctly interpret.
I wanted to start a Community discussion, in particular about Flight Plans created in the current version of the “World map”, and the issues involved, and the work arounds.
I have been frustrated with it for years now, but last week I finally got a grip on some if its quirks, and work arounds, none of which I have seen anyone else mention in this forum.
Maybe a demo Video is called for, as trying to explain these issues and solution in text would take pages, and be almost unreadable for many.
I’ll try one evening this week-- it will be shot live without editing, and I fully expect there will be issues with things not working consistently, (that’s the nature of the World Map flight planner) but it may help others, no matter how crude it is.
The world map does seem to have some interesting quirks and features. I still haven’t figured out the order, that can get frustrating.
I’ve long ago gave up and just manually enter my flight plans directly into whatever system I’m simming with (GNS530, G1000, etc.). Although that wouldn’t help for an airplane lacking GPS.
If you click on the blue line it highlights it and when you add another waypoint it’ll add inbetween the two points on the highlighted part of the line.
Never had the waypoints delete on me but then again if I’m manually doing a flight plan on the world map it’s usually pretty brief with a handful of waypoints at most. So it usually plays nice for me at least. One thing that does get my goat is I’ve never had the filters save for me. I know I can edit a file to force certain ones on or off but I really shouldn’t have to.
