World Photography Mode - Objectives Don't Trigger

Description of the issue:
I completed the objectives as described, but I don’t get the checkmark for one of the objectives.

World Photography Mode - America’s National Parks - Grand Teton

Objectives: Photograph Grand Teton Mountain

  • With a close-up view of its eastern side (checkmark)
  • With one or more bisons in close-up - They can be seen from low altitude around grasslands and flat terrain (checkmark)
  • During spring time (live time and weather) - Live time & weather can be set in the flight conditions (this will not complete despite completing the objectives as stated)

Before starting the flight, I clicked on the “flight conditions” button as stated, and set the date to spring time (March or April). However, when I complete the objective, I get the “Objective Complete” screen, but only the first two objectives are checked.

I also tried this many more times by using real-time live weather and time (it’s November though), adjusting the date but clicking the “Live” weather preset option, and trying all kinds of different combinations of spring-time dates and weather conditions in the pre-flight “Flight Conditions” menu options. I also tried adjusting the date via the weather icon during flight, via the in-flight menu options. Nothing works, despite completing the photograph.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. World Photography Mode - America’s National Parks - Grand Teton
  2. Flight Conditions - Set date to Spring Time (I tried dates in March and April)
  3. I found the bison, hit the “Active Pause” button, went into photo mode, and completed the photo of the bison with the mountain in the background.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
I am using an Xbox controller, mouse, and keyboard.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• I have similar problem, i took the picture of the taj mahal and i got the tick, then took the next picture , got the tick again but the first tick was gone. Took the third picture, got the tick but the second tick was gone. So i could only get the tick for the latest picture, there was no way to get all three. A buggy mess.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes. It’s even worse. My pictures do not even get counted or acknowledged. I tried it on the first two castles, with no result. The only time it worked was on the Chichen Itza mission, but there I could not get any star.

I’m on PC, with Steam.

Question: is it valid to take pictures while in Active Pause? That might be the reason it doesn’t work for me.

If it requires both live time and it to be spring, I’ve interpreted that to mean you must wait until it is actually spring IRL.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

It says “Live time & weather can be set in the flight conditions”, but when you do that, it doesn’t work for the objective.

I believe it’s just saying you can set it to the current live time/date - which when you do so, it will not be spring - at least not for a few months. Most other challenges that are date/season specific do not explicitly say “live” and those all work, which is why I really do believe it means “it must actually be this date/season in real life” for it to work. We’ll see.

It’s confirmed that it’s a bug. It wouldn’t make sense to make people wait up to 9 months to achieve a specific objective.

Interesting, haven’t seen it logged as a bug anywhere, including this thread where it’s logged as feedback, not a bug. If it’s a bug, then it’s also a typo, as other challenges that don’t call for “live” time/date have worked fine. The 2020 sim also had pretty wild achievements to accomplish - waiting 9 months for a specific date/time of day is just as absurd as flying from France to Seattle for some, so I didn’t think twice when I saw that it was the expectation to earn all the stars for this challenge.

If you had to wait for real-time spring, then it wouldn’t indicate that you would be able to ‘set’ the ‘live’ time & weather, specifically using the button that is labeled “Flight Conditions”, before beginning the flight. It you had to actually wait until spring time, then you wouldn’t need to set anything, much less use a button called “Flight Conditions”. You would just have to wait until springtime, without setting anything.

I think the intention is that in order to accomplish the objective, you are supposed to use the “Flight Conditions” button to set the time and weather to spring time, perform the task, and then receive the checkmark. So after trying to do that many times, and the objective doesn’t trigger, it just leaves me confused and frustrated with the belief that it’s just one of the long list of bugs.

I think that the wording is confusing and not very clear on what you’re supposed to do to get the objective. Do I use live date, time, and weather? It didn’t work. Do I use live time and weather, but set the date to spring time? It didn’t work. Do I have to actually wait until March before I can achieve it? Undetermined, but that just seems unreasonable to me - but if that’s the case, then it shouldn’t be necessary to use the “Flight Conditions” button to set time and weather.

It’s just one more thing to add to the long list of frustrations of trying to use FS24.

You “set” live time and weather by clicking here:

If what you describe were the case, they would use the language “custom” time and weather, which is used in many other challenges. The fact that they use both “custom” AND “live” in separate challenges (to me) clearly suggests that they have different intentions, and as we’ve seen in practice, function very differently. None of the “live” ones are unlockable by changing the “custom” time, and all of the “custom” time challenges ARE unlockable by changing the “custom” time.

I don’t disagree that this should be changed as the requirement for all users to set their alarms for a specific date and then all hop on at the same time to do a specific challenge is pretty wild, but I am confident this is not a bug.

You could be right, but putting in an objective that basically says “Sorry you can’t do this right now, come back in March” - is bone-headed design. If they want seasonal challenges, have them appear during the appropriate season instead of months before when you’re not able to achieve them (why not have a Winter objective right now, instead of a spring one?) I believe it’s a bug because I guess I can’t possibly imagine that they would implement a feature like this so poorly, but I suppose nothing is off the table at this point.

My hunch is that come spring time, it still won’t trigger (unless they fix it before then).

“bone-headed design” seems to be the theme for quite a few things in MSFS 2024, which is why this is no surprise to me personally.

Now there’s something we agree on

Spring has sprung and the “Live Time” issue is settled - not a typo or a bug, just a really really odd decision by the developers.

That is so bizarre.
Am I supposed to feel like I achieved something?
Because I just feel annoyed that it was actually designed that way.
Anyway we finally got it.
