World update 3: UK

Fair point.

I didn’t see the first three.

First things first for UK AFR flyers is operational ATC at the fields which really do have an operational tower.

KPAO Palo Alto has an operational tower ( It can give you instructions to approach ).
EGBE Coventry doesn’t have ATC in MSFS.

Second things second. Approach VRPs.

Third thing third. Reduce the size of farm buildings.

Fourth. Rivers and canals to scale.

as, of course, am I for knowing what you’re talking about

■■■■■■, Ive now go that theme tune rolling round my head

The Forth bridges next to Edinburgh look fantastic so really hoping Edinburgh is one of them. Would love to see Edinburgh airport too although I was hoping Orbx would have offered their version by now unless they are involved with this world update given they have a partner video due out next week. Perhaps they have been involved with porting some of their True Earth GB content like they did with London City Landmarks?

I made the current Edinburgh scenery pack you can get from Flightsim but I’d prefer a properly optimised in game photogrammatry model of the city. It’ll be a shame if they don’t have it as Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Sadly I suspect we’ll just get a model of Edinburgh castle plonked in the middle of the current auto gen version of the city.

Yes, someone just pointed me to your pack so I’ll check that out this weekend and many thanks for taking the time to create it. Having seen the bridges and the detail of Deep Sea World under the rail bridge, I’m hopeful they have done a bit more.

Some of that Scottish scenery pack may or may not work for you. The sim seems to be a bit temperamental with these scenery models. Each time they bring out a new update it seems to break something or change the way something works. The StAndrews scenery pack no longer works for me and some others for some reason.

I’d re-do it but they’re quite time consuming to do well only for a future update to break something again. I used to love flying around that Matterhorn model someone made but it no longer works as the terrain mesh was changed in an update and it no longer sits where it should. I had a go at re-doing it but importing mountains from Google Earth and shoving them in the sim is different from doing cities and landmarks. Its much harder to get them to blend well with the default scenery. Hopefully the SDK will get improved in the future to make it a bit easier.

Yes Edinburgh city fully modelled would be beautiful.

I doubt it will be in as Bluesky (which is their source for photogrammetry doesn’t have Edinburgh. You can go on their website for a list of cities they have 3d data for. Someone also posted it further up.

Spent last night flying low and slow up the coast between Alnmouth and Holy Island and swinging back to Alnwick, taking pictures of the towns and castles (Dunstanburgh, Warkworth, Bamburgh, Alnwick).
I’ll fly it again after the update, eager to see if/how the area changes.

People are going to be very disappointed if they set their hopes on cities that are not going to be in the update. BlueSky is the source for the 3D cities, the developers have said so numerous times so you can be 100% certain if they dont have a 3D city it will definitely not be in this update.

Hmmm. I bought Orbx Leeds-Bradford. Not sure how good it is, because whenever I go near the airport, I get a CTD. Remove the Orbx stuff and the default airport is fine, if a bit generic.
Better the generic that works

It’s OK for me, therefore the ORBX isn’t the problem. You have most likely got summat else conflicting.

Dasappointed about the weeks delay but I’m sure it’ll be worth it in another weeks time!

I think & hope It’ll be:-

Birmingham
Bristol hopefully including Bath
Cambridge
London
Oxford

I guess it might be that Bing Maps is purchasing the data from BlueSky and not directly MSFS team.

Because such companies as BlueSky always are what GoogleMaps, AppleMaps, or BingMaps buy data from.

Just been thinking about this update today especially with the forthcoming photometry improvements for the UK. I noticed the following details around Portsmouth in the UK during this evenings flight (note, this is all on stock settings so there are no third-party add ons)

Portsmouth actually looks pretty good, the Spinaker tower/Gunwharf Quays, the Harbour, Royal Navy base ( including a few type 45 destroyers, type 23 frigates and the Mary Rose building) Fratton Park football ground , even the Ferry Port with a couple of the Brittany Ferries ships all in good, albeit slightly blocky (but not undetailed generic blocks) detail but very good from 1000ft
not sure if Portsmouth is merley detailed up for the starndard Sim or if Asobo have been adding small areas into the live game to test , if this is what higher fidelity plus a better AI algorithm means then the game will just get better and better. I did double check a few other UK cities tonight and this seems to be a notable exception to the current standard. PS, very happy to be corrected here
 :slightly_smiling_face:

Now all we need are moving trains, and moving marine traffic along with wakes.

Portsmouth might well have benefited from being close to Southampton (sorry to any pompey fans), as that was one of, if not the only, cities in the UK that was given the detailed treatment in the original release.

I did notice Southhampton looked pretty good
might go back and see if I can see if I can find the Ikea.. :sunglasses:
