World update 3: UK

I don’t understand as well

The FBW mod is actually a good point. I was always trying to fly the default 320 and it was impossible in my PC. Low FPS, stutters… I tried every tweak and it did not work.

Then the FWB guys come with one update in the developer branch, where they “discovered” a way to significantly improve the performance in glass cockpits. So now I have a modded A320 not only with many new features, but which performs much better than the default one!

Why weren’t the devs able to find a way to optimize their own code? Especially when some external guys were able to find the issue and fix it in relatively few months

I am still amused by people, that are talking about a delay, when there never was a fixed release date.

Today I barely checked this topic, but as soon as I did, there were people talking about the time of release. Reminds me of a child, that starts to ask his parents for gifts two weeks before christmas.

I guess, we all got a passion for aviation and simming, but does our daily life and attitude really depend on a “video game” update. C’mon guys, don’t let Covid drive you crazy…

That’s a powerful statement and these days, the end of all arguments for consumers. But, it’s flawed.

Marketing and “sexy” videos have some impact, most of it in fact. But the expectation/anticipation is drawn by taking any sentence to mean one thing to the consumer, individually. A picture given to drive those thousand words, are yours to fill in and interpret alone. It means you are responsible for some of it’s interpretation.

It doesn’t make them responsible for shattering dreams, or not delivering what was actually promised. It just means they didn’t manage some people’s expectations.

Well, that. That’s life.

Same for me two times two hours ago.

FBW says exactly that - when it’s done - and not one person is upset or becomes distrustful. Again, not sure you see the point. This isn’t about making sure London has all its bridges and buildings. This is about minimal communication and trust, IMHO.

I read a lot of the posts in the thread. I simply would invite people to reframe a bit the question. We are all living (including the developing team) in difficult worldwide times, we have a base sim with a lot of things and places to explore, there is no need to dramatize some more days of waiting.
Maybe it is also a question of age, I started with MSFS II on the mythical C64, and I can appreciate the unbelievable progresses made since then. In these days I am flying for the first time the Japan Tour, it is quite lenghty with a slow aircraft, so no hurry to immediately pass to the new UK scenery.

And you clearly are missing the point again.

Me, I’ve switched to looking forward to next Tuesday.

The fix for terrain spikes wasn’t announced at any time out of the upcoming update ao far! One time in the history of this sim, a hotfix was released and that was for the A320, I guess. Every post I saw regarding this, the mod team and CMs never talkes about a hotfix, because the developer team decided, that it isn’t a game breaking issue.

Listening isn’t the problem, it’s getting people further up the chain to start treating proper communication with the community as a priority.

They could start by having somesome come in here and properly explain why the communication on this delay was so late.

Came here to check for news on that update and found this thunderstorm.

A little more patience, appreciation and tolerance would do good these days. Good things come to those who wait. Why go so crazy on a delayed digital world update, while the real world would need a good update much more right now.

The UK update will be ready sooner or later. No simulator was perfect out of the box, no software will ever be.

Why not enjoy what we have right now?

I will keep it as usual: Post less and fly more.

Thank you. To clarify- I’m listening to understand and to also relay the sentiment.

I wonder how many people can look at a release delay from the perspective of a development team. There is a chance that the team themselves were hoping to have the patch in shape for release today. I expect there have been some people working really hard over the past few days to try their best to meet a deadline which is, let’s face it, is set by just a select number of people, plucking a date out from somewhere, using a rough estimate that a development manager mentioned in a meeting.

I’ve been a developer, a development team manager, and senior delivery manager, so I know what a bad end of the stick the developers can get sometimes (and let’s not forget the poor QA engineers who get it in the neck from every direction).

It’s very possible that the delivery today was still on before this morning, and there may well have been a go/no go meeting with management, QA and dev team leads/principal developers.

Deadlines on development are notoriously sketchy because no-one really knows what issues are going to appear, so it’s a ‘how long is a piece of string’ situation - you really don’t know how long it will take until you do it. For that reason, as a manager, I almost NEVER gave anyone a proper date for done. Business Managers hated me for it. Developers liked it because they felt understood. Customers always had a better product experience from it.

What I do know is that there was a meeting and decision was made to delay the release until the dev/qa teams are happy that it’s ready. That means that your developers care a lot about what they’re making, have a passion for releasing something that can be considered properly ready, even if it may not be perfect. Software is never perfect though, is it?

If we didn’t hear until last minute, that might actually mean that the decision to pull the release was also made last minute to protect the integrity of the product. So it should be considered before publicly putting people down on here. My opinion is that some folks may need to be a bit more mature about it and deal with a little bit of disappointment… and perhaps reframe things a bit, to see things from a more diverse set of perspectives

There… now I feel better for that. Night-night. X

That’s because you are Custard. In a predetermined Confused state.

In short. One persons expectations will be different to the next persons expectations looking at the same material.

Not true:
Regarding the new bug, #2 - Spikes on Terrain, our team is actively working on this issue and should have a solution in the next few days.

Yeah, they talked about having a solution, but not abou a hotfix, that will be released pre update! That is just false interpretation.

Even in the feedback snapshot, it is still under investigation and not published as a hotfix.

I suppose we all misunderstood “should have a solution” as being “have a fix ready to send out to you”. Oh well. Roll on next week!

The world is huge fly where there are no 1000ft spikes. :joy:

I agree with you.

Previously I have been a massive fan of Asobo and have defended them on countless occasions. However this latest episode has now made me distrustful and doubting of their promises and intentions. I’m not blaming the moderators here who by and large seem to do a good job and actually seem to be in the dark much like the rest of us. But certainly for me Asobo have lost a great deal of my credibility and trust. I am not quite sure really how you can leave it so late in the day to inform customers who have been waiting most of the day for something that it is not going to happen. They must surely have had an indication that there might be a problem earlier in the day. Why not just show a bit of respect for the Community and COMMUNICATE! It goes without saying that the level of communication by Asobo has been abysmal. But it also smacks to me of a contemptuous attitude towards a very enthusiastic community. Hopefully they can prove me wrong but I begin to wonder now if they really do care. I get no pleasure at all in saying this.

Yes, I know that it’s really only a game and obviously not that important in the general scheme of things. It’s a ‘fun thing’ to take a break with from the more serious aspects of life. But please don’t treat me as an ‘inconsequential’ if you want to keep me as a paying customer. I’ve already switched from another sim which ignored customer wishes. Hopefully this won’t prove to be another one :slightly_smiling_face:
