World Update 4: France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg

PHJAAP: There are some nice airports on flightsim.to (Lelystad, Eindhoven, Leeuwarden) Not fully detailed but pretty nice.

To be honest, I wish they would fix the existing World Updates first, before releasing new ones. It has been three months since the USA update and some POIs like the Devilā€™s Tower are still invisible and only pop into existence when you are a couple of miles out. Same with the Cliffs of Dover in the UK World Update.

Only 2 cities?

When is this supposed to come out?

CanĀ“t they team up with the Google Earth VR Crew? If you fly through the alps (or other mountain areas) in Google Earth VR itĀ“s way better then in the sim. The mountains in MSFS are so round, so soft, so scottish :D! i miss the roughness of the Alps or Mountains in generall.

Google Earth is a direct competitor for Bing Maps (which is owned by MS). So no, this is never going to happen.

So far, yes, two photogrammetric cities (Paris and Amsterdan). But if you take a look at the region, you will see it already has some cities covered (7 in France and 1 in Belgium). That said, the region will have 10 cities covered. More than Japan or the UK.

I hope that they also put in the Gerbrandy tower in IJsselstein Netherlands.

You can get this building at flightsim.to

Beta test this one so it wonā€™t ruin MSFS like the last update did.

Yeah a beta is a must for the updates to be stable for everybody. Luckily, Jƶrg picked it up in the last q&a and said itā€™s a great idea, they should talk about it and infrastructurewise they can do it now. I have high hopes they go ahead with this.

There is better elevation data for the alps on flightsim.to. Found it yesterday under Italy. No conflicts with the add-on airports of Lugano and Locarno.

The world updates obviously take up more disk space (landmarks and enhanced airports) but it depends on the density of the the PG areas whether your system can handle it or if its better to turn photogrammetry off in those areas.

The UK update added London in an unoptimized state. Itā€™s very detailed, very dense, over 3x the data density of NY. Not even high end systems can fly low over London and full speed without it turning into a melted mess. My system can only keep up at 40 knots or less (quarter sim rateā€¦)

Anyway the min since Sim Update 3 is some PC that has yet to be inventedā€¦

Itā€™s what you can deal with. You can still land at 5fps, planes arenā€™t twitch shooters. Whether itā€™s enjoyable is up to who is playing. The one annoyance from low fps patches is that the sim doesnā€™t register some inputs. I always have to check whether the flaps actually deployed, landing gear actually listened etc. I guess thatā€™s the right way to do it anyway

Very interesting update indeed.

I hope they update the airport I live next to ELLX.

Unlike sim updates it is not compulsory to download world updates.

The first 2 patches are. The last world update had a 17 GB patch before you actually got to download the UK update.

Anyway Iā€™m excited to see a better rendition of Amsterdam. Iā€™ve lived there for over 10 years and it was hardly recognizable in FS2020

The layout is there, doesnā€™t look like Amsterdam at all otherwise
