World update 7... Bing map satellite upgraded from current Sputnik!

When I first got the sim, I found it a little too realistic. I did what everyone does, took off from my local airport and flew to my house. There it was, and parked right outside was my car.

Spent the rest of the day wondering how I got to the airport…

Sorry 'bout that.

Unfortunately, I have the feeling that the normal user, after more than a year of worsening “improvements”, is now so blunt that he no longer even sees when a texture cuts across the landscape and the airport (which wasn’t the case before the update), or it feels normal next to all the other problems

up front it is the same texture as on bing right now, the back however is a presumably older texture, why? …well, my guess is even Asobo doesn’t know

and while we’re at it:

have fun flying VFR after the world update in the north of germany, where they even added a custom airport. (which btw. is worse than most you get on flightsim.to)

That texture crawl, blocking in, is not a new issue, but a prevalent one. It actually predated SU5, and appeared in WU5.

I know that, but in the case of north Germany the location of it appearing changed with the latest WU

Possibly due to photogrammetry being added in that region. I’ve only seen it in a few areas.

I can understand and accept some discrepancies with older imaging, but this is KBWI, an International Airport where the runway layout bears no resemblance to the current real world airport. This affects SIDS and STARS too.

An International Airport and Hub for Southwest, with the main runway 33L/15R missing. Also, runway 4/22 was demolished in a major Airfield Enhancement Program in 2013. So the Bing imaging we have for this area must’ve been captured prior to 2013.

Real World Layout:

You two may have a difference of opinion, but I find myself agreeing with the both of you!
Go figure. Haha.

You have to take-off and land. Airports are not accurately reproduced in the Sim.
Also, like some of us, we like to visit familiar places… where we were actually on the ground. There should be some close resemblance, don’t you think?

I’m with you about bad textures. I just did a good inspection WU 5 and WU 6 countries excepting France not done yet. All red dots are areas with bad textures. Just have a look how bad textures I found after a WU ! It’s fun Asobo add nice POI but it would be nice too they have better textures especially on a WU. At least now I know where I can’t go if I want fly over nice places only.

Why do you say “never”? Indeed Google has the data, so it would have to stream from Google servers. Yes, Google may charge, and yes, something that level should rightfully be more expensive than MSFS2020, maybe $100 or more or something like $50/year. That is still considerably cheaper than what people have spent for sizeable XP and Prepar3D ORBX addons that need to be stored on the local hard drive.

If someone partners with Google most possibly IT CAN BE DONE.

You clearly believe that all that needs to be done is to copy the latest Bing image into the Sim. I can forgive your ignorence about the work involved as you clearly have no idea, but it does mean that you really should accept that the actual Bing image is the least of it. I am sure they will be updated eventually but it takes much effort and work and is hardly a priority at the moment.

Try a couple of thousand a year IMO because there’s nowhere near enough wealthy hardcore simmers for it to compete with MSFS who incidently promise still excellent scenery for free and who with a vastly bigger team are several years ahead in development. You sir are flogging a dead horse and your pipe dream is destined to stay just that, a complete fairytale.

This makes sense. Yes, agree it takes time. My primary concern is not so much areas with slightly outdated Bing data, but areas with no Bing data. I can understand there being a lack of data in extreme polar regions, due to satellite paths, and that most great circle long haul routes don’t go that far north or south, but would eventually like satellite coverage (even outdated coverage) for most of the global land areas.

With all do respect, the posts are a bit personal. I do not appreciate it. They are negative and dismissive. Let’s all work together as a team for a better sim and stop negatively judging others.

Austin Meyer has stated numerous times that he isn’t interested in satellite photography. I doubt he would want to go into partnership with any large company large Google, or MS for that matter.

There is nothing you can say or do that is going to get MS to drop their own software in favour of a rivals. You can keep requesting it, but it will never happen.

That’s not negativity, it’s reality.

That I agree with. Was not talking about MS dropping Bing. Was talking about X-Plane or Prepar3D or a competitor, like Xplane used to be for MSFS back in the 2000’s.

As I mention Austin isn’t even interested in satellite photography. As for LM, who knows.
