World's Most Dangerous Approach - Landing at the Paro International Airport - Bhutan

Can’t imagine how much training would be involved when landing an Airbus A319!

With TBM it is piece of cake. Try A320 instead

I don’t think it’s very hard to land even an A320 there in the sim. The difficult part is doing it over and over again safely in different wind conditions.
That’s the thing about flying in a sim. We often think it’s not that hard to fly an airplane but I’m pretty sure most of us can count on one hand the amount of times we did everything perfect (no overspeed, correct altitudes, correct communication with ATC, lights, altimeter etc.). Real pilots have to get this right every time.

Oh yes, I am well aware! I made the video to illustrate the proper navigation procedure that is performed in real life. There is a reason it takes 8-10 years of training to qualify as a Captain in order to land the Airbus at Paro.

Well stated! Many simmers think this is easy because they land somewhere on the runway. In real life these pilots pin the numbers every time with every flight being different in terms of wind, density altitude, aircraft weight etc. I made the video mainly to illustrate the proper navigation procedure and manual aspect of flying the approach.

I was cocky about landings getting A on the challenges until I customized some of my flights to include all kind of winds at various layers including before touchdown , not to mention fog layers at no a ILS airports and there is no excuse of not getting it a 100% correct every single time which is what a real pilot is expected off every time . I can see it’s mostly all about practice practice and more practice . One thing though although we give a lot of credit to pilots , the thing is that many pilots including the ones I know who land on those airports mostly fly the same few routes every time . You deal with all kind of situations and it becomes almost like reflex action . Even in bad visibility one of the pilots or lukla told me that all he needs is just one reference point and look at the altitude and gps and he is all set as he has flown the route countless times . I myself on the sim have gotten so much better at landing challenges over time where I almost have high numbers on the A from C , which takes repeated attempts over weeks and months plus you put to use things that you learnt from one landing and bush trips on the other landing challenges . Thats the reason why real pilots have to complete 1000s of hours to perfect everything. I am still below 200 hours lol .

Oh and not to mention many of the hard landing airports the pilots almost always fly the same planes and they know exactly how it handles on every weather like the back of their hand
