Worldwide helipads package causes poor performance at RJTT Haneda Tokyo

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Flying out of RJTT or anywhere in the Tokyo area is subject to a large FPS reduction and stutters. It is possible that other large airports are also affected. Removing the worldwide helipads package solves the problem.
Note that worldwide helipads is a streamed MS/Asobo package.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

No, reverting to SU2 solves the problem

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
Yes & yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load into runway start at RJTT in any aircraft.

  2. Start dev mode FPS display and observe poor FPS and manipulators & mainthread times spiking.

  3. Disable Worldwide helipads scenery in My library. Clear rolling cache and restart sim

  4. Load into runway in RJTT in any aircraft

  5. Start dev mode FPS display and observe improved FPS and non spiking manipulators and mainthread times

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
dev mode for FPS display

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:
Nvidia 4070 12 GB
[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Voted! Disabling this on Xbox gets rid of the ultra bad fps around Haneda/Tokyo, KLAX, JFK, etc. with the fps being the worst around Haneda (5 fps on Series X) when this package is activated.

however, it renders the graphics generic and you don’t see any of the handcrafted bespoke graphics on the airport itself or the photogrammetry in the city, including POIs and landmarks.

Hope this is addressed in the next beta update as some areas are absolutely 100% unflyable, with Tokyo being the worst offender.

On PC MS-store version disabling the helipad package does not result in disabling POIs, photogrammetry or any other package. Can’t comment on why that would happen on Xbox.

I tried disabling this package, but got no improvement in performance. It’s still abysmal around Tokyo.

Even after disabling World Update Japan, I’m seeing no improvement.

Tokyo & Haneda still running smoothly for me with worldwide helipads disabled in 1.5.7.0. World update Japan enabled. Remember to reset rolling cache & restart sim after disabling any scenery packages.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• disabling the worldwide helipads library helps in any area where there is a large concentration of helipads. I’m my case I often fly out of KSMO or KLAX and there is a large (20+) concentration of helipads just to the east which degrades performance significantly. Not sure this degradation is a software bug though it could be just the additional CPU cycles needed to process the extra models, etc. But a good find by the OP in any case and I’ll be leaving helipads disabled for now.
Aside: another good side effect of disabling helipads is there is no longer a need to scroll through numerous pages of identifiers on the ATC window.

Every time I disable it and restart the sim, it’s reenabled on restart. I’m not sure what the deal is.

Are you supposed to delete just the ROLLINGCACHE.ccc file? or do I delete the content of the cache folder?

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Yes, surest way is to delete rollingcache.ccc from your localcache directory.

How are you disabling the helipad package, in sim via My library or manually editing content.xml? If the latter be aware that there is now a redundant content.xml left over in Localcache since they updated the live content.xml to reside in …Localcache/yourusername.

I’ve read reports of disabled packages re-enabling themselves after a sim restart but it’s never happened to me so all I can suggest try deleting (or renaming is better) the redundant content.xml and manually editing live content.xml to contain this line:
Package name=“fs24-microsoft-scenery-helipad-worldwide” active=“UserDisabled”/
(needs to be bracketed but cant include them because formatting)

No change in latest beta 1.5.8.0

Would like to add performance degradation is also noted in RJOO(Osaka) though not to slideshow fps like RJTT. Again non existent in SU2.

I have experienced terrible performance at RJTT and RJAA but only with live weather turned on. However, I discovered disabling the helipads fixed this issue even with live weather turned on and flying around RJTT and RJAA is smooth as silk.

I did have to restart the sim after disabling the helipads package for it to take effect.

I think there is a conflict with live weather and the helipads package.

Just tested this and it does indeed seem to be a combined effect of live weather and helipads.

I have not tried disabling the helipads, but have flown a couple of quick 17-minute flights in the Boeing 737 Max from Gotemba (RJGO) to Tokyo Haneda (RJTT) to see if there is any difference between Live weather & a similar preset (Broken Clouds) when landing at Haneda .

Live weather just before touchdown:

Broken Clouds just before touchdown:

There is a big difference in the Median Framerate between the two:

Flight Landing & Taxi
RJTT (Live Weather) (v1.5.8.0) 34.0
RJTT (Broken Clouds) (v1.5.8.0) 49.1 (+44.4%)

The same holds for the entire flight:

Flight Entire Flight
RJTT (Live Weather) (v1.5.8.0) 49.3
RJTT (Broken Clouds) (v1.5.8.0) 56.4 (+14.4%)

There was some minor stuttering on touchdown & roll-out in the Live Weather flight, but no other stuttering was observed at any other point for either flight.

Unfortunately, the Broken Clouds flight ended in a CTD just as I was about to park at the apron, as reported here.
