MSFS 2026 AI. ![]()
And just like “GMO free” foods it will A) not necessarily guarantee any sort of quality, and B) disregard products which may use AI in a responsible/positive way.
Time to abandon FS2020, it is old enough. Focusing on one game properly is enough of a challenge. Dunno why they haven’t done so already, did they promise a 10 year support or something?
“Promise” is probably an extreme word, but it was what was discussed as the plan when MSFS first released in 2020. What has been said more recently is that they will support MSFS (2020) with updates, including World and City Update content and Sim Updates likely focused on bug fixes, through 2028. Based on the scope of Sim Update 16 and the more recent 16.1, it doesn’t seem to me that MSFS (2020) is cannibalizing many, if any, resources from the prime dev team, so I don’t think it’s support is much of a factor in 2024’s progress really.
No one has talked about the development of MSFS 2020, but rather MSFS 2024, and in comparison, MSFS 2024 is losing out at the moment in this regard.
So that’s not the topic; no one is talking about the development of MSFS2020.
Thank you for confirming that companies nowadays have absolutely no shame releasing a product with “10’s of thousands of bugs” and charging full price for this.
I hate running MS’ defense but this is such a dishonest, rose-tinted argument that makes you sound teenaged at the oldest
As if not only prior Microsoft Flight Simulator releases didn’t match these criteria, but legendary games from decades ago as well. Have you seen the state of GTA:SA, or Oblivion, or KotOR2 at launch? How absolutely roasted FSX was for the performance issues? These games are over 20 years old, and were still sold for full AAA price.
And yes, they also had “tens of thousands of bugs”, because that’s not a good metric at all and a misspelled flavour text count as the same as a game-breaker making progress impossible for all players, same as a glitch present only on a certain hardware = all are “1”.
I totally disagree. Not to defend Msobo here. They released an unfinished product more than a year ago and, exactly because of that, they are now too busy to patch everywhere. Look at the growing list of bugs in devsupport forum. It would be insane to expect significant new features given all the problems they are having now.
Funny thing is I can still see ppl moaning about cloud/weather. My advice is don’t dream about it. If Msobo can deliever a rather stable 2024 plus fix all the normal procedure of default planes by the end of this year (2026), that is already a big achievement in their own standard.
We all know FS24 was released a year too soon.
We all know why.
We all know what the downstream effects of that decision have been.
We also know that Jorg has emphatically stated that the next release will not happen that way.
Whether anyone chooses to believe that is entirely up to them.
It’s only logical to expect this approach. How long would a release take if they didn’t allow actual users to test one of the most complex pieces of software on the market? Personally, I’d much rather have access to the software in its initial released state than not have it at all. For those who disagree, X-Plane and FS2020 remain viable alternatives.
Yes. This is where I’m coming at it from. Until 2024 shows some real improvements to the overall VR experience in terms of performance and visuals, I’ll stick with 2020. But that’s not to say I would ever try to dissuade anyone from using 2024 if it provides a better experience for them. To each their own. Don’t like the feedback on 2024? Don’t buy. Stay with 2020 or switch over to XP12 (which I haven’t used for a while, but might try again soon just for the heck of it).
Anyway - we have options and that’s good for everyone.
Cheers !
Tried it last week for the first time in many years as I heard there was a demo option. Very underwhelming for VFR flying unfortunately.
Bummer. That was always X-Plane’s shortcoming, in my opinion. Flight model was good, payware (and some of the included ones) are pretty good to very good. But the visuals… not that great without spending a ton of time to download orthos. Anyway, back to MSFS - yeah I’m still sitting tight using 2020. I think the tipping points for me will be when - 2024 shows enough of a VR improvement and/or there are aircraft I want to buy that are only made for 2024.
I think the work for SU4 was devastating. They refactored how the multithreading works, I have no idea how much massive surgery the sim needed but seems to me like it was A LOT.
I agree the recent silence is disheartening. There’s no roadmap, no updates, haven’t been for a long time. SU5 is getting worked on though and we just got California, so it’s not like there’s nothing going on, it’s just that there’s no communication.
2024 is a MASSIVE improvement over 2020, though I don’t use VR. But at this point 2024 just buries 2020 every way you want to look at it. You use Navigraph? Skip a year of that, it pays for 2024 alone, and you get free charts with 2024.
