Currently I’m on a Quest 2 and I’m holding off on cards for better market conditions. Would there be any benefit to getting a G2 now and running it on the 1070? I worry the extra resolution will be too much or I’ll have to scale down and not get much benefit.
I would say wait. I went from a 1080Ti to a 3080Ti when I got my G2. You can run the G2 in lower resolutions to match your card, but you would be happier with a new card, now, while you wait for the G2 to come down in price. If you get the G2 and are not happy with the performance on your card, it will sit there bugging you until the market improves.
It’s a tough one to wait out. I’m actually quite happy with the current setup but the upgrade bug is getting to me.
The 1080Ti was likely good card to start also.
The 1080Ti is still a great card. 11GB of VRAM is hard to find. Good to hear the current rig is getting the job done.
On the flip side I can give the Quest 2 to my son. He uses it for Beat Saber but I’m always hogging it.
Virtual Desktop is what really makes the experience nice for the Quest 2. So there is the unknown of the software changes on my system.
I would say a 1070 would only drive a G2 at lower resolutions which defeats the object of having a G2 in the first place. Sorry.
In the eu/uk you can find & buy a 3070 FE (and other cards) at msrp (£469 for 3070) using Telegram.
That’s a great price. I know people buying prebuilt PCs for $2500+ just to get the card.
It is, i’m not sure if you can use Telegran where u are but it works, i got my 3000 series card at msrp this way. Google “Telegram FE Part Alert”, its the 1st result I think.
We have some tempting deals on prebuilt gaming PCs. HP has one 3080Ti setup where you basically get an i7, 32 GB, watercooler, 1TB NVMe for an additional few extra dollars.
Easy, no it’s not.
I also upgraded from a 1080Ti to an actual 3080Ti.
Less than that, stay with the Quest.
Cheers!
