X-Cub VOR help

Can anyone point me to a simple guide on how to set the Cub Crafter’s X-Cub to follow a VOR? I know how to tune the NAV frequencies correctly in it and make them active and I can set the radial I want for the VOR, but no line showing my position relative to that radial is visible, which makes the whole thing a bit useless.
NB Please do NOT direct me to the Youtube videos by that guy who talks really fast and misses things out. He gets so much wrong and is hard to follow.

When you say the line showing your position relative to the radial, I assume you mean the CDI needle. Is the needle pegged all the way to the left or right side of the instrument? Is the needle centered but there is an off flag (or no TO FROM flag indication)? You may not be high enough to receive the VOR or are outside the service volume of the VOR. Try it again closer to a known VOR and see if it works.

Here is a video I made on how to use a VOR. It sounds like you already know how to do it, except the VOR in the airplane isn’t acting the way you expect it to. Any chance of attaching a screen shot?

Are you sure youre making them active is the Nav radio show your selected frequency in white? Is your CDI switched to the correct Nav Radio?

Use the outer portion of the lower right hand know to adjust the course. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE DISPLAY IN FULLSCREEN FOR THIS TO WORK. Purple circle

Are you in range of the VOR signal? Are you at the right altitude to recieve the signal?

Are you able to get the frequency to actually transfer in the Cub? If a frequency is entered and ENTER is pressed, the frequency goes in standby. If XFER is selected, the entered frequency will go ACTIVE. This is not working correctly in the CubCrafters Cub. Using Draco, the frequency will transfer, and it has the same avionics. This is as a bug.

The screenshots I posted are from the xcub in 2024, XFER does indeed make the entered frequency active, as shown in the 2nd screenshot.

That is strange. Even after closing the sim and trying again, XFER in the CubCrafters Cub will not switch the standby frequency to the active. When pressing enter or XFER, the frequency goes into the standby on NAV 1. Nav 2 is the same result. It works just fine in the Draco. Maybe the OP has the same issue.

Thank you, but I am OK with using a VOR on steam gauges like in the video there. Yes the CDI is the thing I couldn’t think of the name for. It doesn’t actually appear at all in the X-Cub, that’s the problem. There is NO needle.

The frequency is definitely active. I can swap back and forth between active and standby and nothing seems to change. I can also adjust the course and the radial indicator will rotate, but no CDI is shown.
And I was within range, about 20 miles away.

I think you’re using a different simulator. This is FS2020 I am using. Well done for finding yet another FS2024 bug though!

I have both but was using MSFS 2024. There are many bugs and one doesn’t have to look far to find them but in sims like 2020/2024, there are bound to be bugs.

OK I tried again with it today and for some reason it’s working fine. Select frequency, swap to active, touch on the indicator and select VOR, all working fine. The only difference is today I was testing it in free flight, but when I had the problem with it not working, it was in a mission. I can only assume it’s some sort of mission related bug. I can’t recreate it in free flight.

I have the same exact problem, using MSFS 2024, in the same plane. I have tried both Nav 1 and Nav 2, but they do not swap the freq. I have rebooted the program several times, removed all other planes from the community folder, and I’m using the free flight mode. Unfortunately, the free flight mode does not solve the problem for me.
