X-Plane keybinds into MSFS

Is there anyway I can get my keybinds from XP into MSFS?

Struggling to get them right, and am wondering if anyone has made a profile that mimics the X-Plane default binds in MSFS?

Thanks

Short of manually clearing your current binds on everything and rebuilding from scratch, I’m not sure there’s a way. I could be wrong though. It seems like it would be a lot of work to do that though.

It’s one of the main reasons I’m not really using MSFS at all atm. I just can’t crack the camera controls. Managed to get flight controls sorted out a few weeks ago, but just can’t get my head around setting the cameras up. Currently use a custom camera for the cockpit straight ahead view, but for some reason I have to click the key a few times before it delivers the view I expect.

I’ve never flown X-Plane, so I don’t have a point of reference. But the camera controls in MSFS are very clunky and not very intuitive IMHO. From what I understand, XP’s cameras are great, so I can understand the frustration coming from that to this.

Best of luck.

Thanks. Yep, X-Plane default controls are brilliant. I’m really not a fan of the controls page in MSFS. Will probably spend this evening trying to figure it out.

Might be teaching Grandma to suck eggs here a little, but there were some quite good Youtube tutorials done on the camera back just after release ; think Squirrel did one off the top of my head. YMMV.

I think ā€˜not particularly intuitive’ hits the nail on the head, although to this day the Drone Camera is a source of mystery to me ( hands up user error more than anything else though).

Good luck :+1:

Controlling the drone with the keyboard is an exercise in both frustration and futility for me. It’s terrible by all accounts.

However, using my XBOX controller, it’s absolutely brilliant, simple and intuitive. IMHO, they hit it out of the park with the functionality of the drone. By contrast, it’s execution while using a keyboard is dismal at best.

But it should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that the focus is to get it working fantastically well on the XBOX controller.

I have made the MSFS keybinds as close to XP as possible. A couple exceptions are that I have a ā€œPauseā€ key and I prefer that to ā€œpā€ (XP) and I also prefer ā€œEndā€ to ā€œshift 8ā€ (XP). A problem with the MSFS keybinds is that it seems to execute the primary keybinds of 0 - 9 regardless if they are already defined as part of other key combinations (ie. ALT 1 or CTRL 1). I am not sure if this behavior has changed with the latest updates. So I started with the default MSFS keybinds and created a custom ā€œXPā€ compatible keybind. The XP keys that I am very familiar with are the quick look keys (numpad 0 thru 9) and the quick look mem (ctrl numpad 0 -9) , flight control keys 0-9, and engine control F1 - F12. As a result, there are some MSFS features that are disabled but I only care about the primary piloting functions that are convenient to have on the keyboard. Unfortunately it appears that the keybinds are stored in the ā€œcloudā€ and not locally, so I do not know how to get a MSFS key mapping file that can be shared. It is nice to have a common set of MSFS/XP key mappings.

coming off decades of Flight Sim over to XP 10 and 11 - what do people like about their cameras? - I hated them, and it was one of the reasons switching to XP took a long time for me… ( well, not switching, but running in parallel to P3D ) in fact - XPs UI put me off them for years.

Ah that is a pity, I thought they would have been stored locally. That is basically exactly what I am looking for
