I do not own and do not plan on buying an XBox.
Why am I being presented with a picture of an XBox controller and what the buttons do when I load a flight?
Is this feature going to extend to the PC range of joysticks.
Ruins the whole thing for me. Makes it feel like your loading into an arcade game. At least include a button for PC users to turn it off.
Are you on WU8 or SU9 beta? The button layout image should go away after a few hours of play (I don’t know exactly how many).
I agree. Bad idea.
Long story short. I had to reinstall because I am an idiot lol.
I’m not on the insider programme. The screen just stood out for me when I loaded my first flight, the last thing I was expecting was a picture of an xbox controller. What next? Maybe a picture of how you plug an xbox controller in, or how you insert the game disc. Totally unnecessary IMHO.
You see the game isn’t just made for people who know everything already.
There are beginners who needs some help. And there are some screens to do that. To be welcoming.
And then there are screens that show the button configuration for a Xbox controller when a Xbox controller isn’t even connected to the system and never will be. I’m not saying it’s a big deal, but the code could’ve been a little smarter.
You know, you don’t have to buy XBox to use XBox controller, you can use it on PC also.
I do, and I’m not the only one, so not for ‘arcade game’ players (or what ever you call them) only.

There are legit uses for an Xbox controller with MSFS that don’t involve using it as a sole primary controller.
When I got my Honeycomb Alpha back in late 2020, I attached my Xbox controller to my yoke with adhesive velcro tape. That gives me extra buttons that I can program for whatever I want. It gave me free look ability with the analog sticks (it was before I bought a TrackIR), and made for a great controller for the drone when in drone view.
I use an XBox controller with my PC laptop when traveling to save space in my backpack. Not being an experienced XBox user, it’s taken some time to get use to it. But otherwise it’s working fine.
While I use an Xbox controller among my peripherals, I have never seen those ‘instructions’ ever.
Thinking about it, I can’t say I notice particularly much about what they show on the starting screens.
I usually sort my my checklists and set up my additional apps or look at the flightplan while the sim is loading.
Maybe they did show some controller instructions but I just haven’t noticed them yet. I might be using the controller all wrong, oh my
