I am trying to use an XBox Controller (new one) with MSFS, mostly for camera control in Drone or External view (those controllers seems to be the best peripheral for this). I use an USB cable between the PC and the controller (not using the wireless mode).
It seems that any user profile I am trying to create works very well during the session, but is lost if I quit and relaunch the program.
I have tried both with a (standard) profile and an XINPUT profile. Same problem.
I have found this sometimes too, but it is intermittent for me.
One solution I found is to duplicate your custom control prefs profile (theres a rollover button menu at the bottom of the screen, which includes the option to duplicate), so you have three duplicates. If you find one gets reset, try loading one of the backups. This has worked for me. I haven’t found a pattern as to why/how the prefs gets reset.
thanks for your reply. Yes, it seems not to be lost everytime.
I will try your hint to duplicate the profile, make sense if it is only lost randomly.
Another question : one can create a “standard” profile or an “XINPUT” profile. I know that XINPUT is a proprietary; dedicated controller interface from Microsoft, but is there any reason to choose one vs another ?
I’m not sure, I just use the default that occurs when I first plugged my controller in. That one had more controls pre-assigned on the controller, and then I customised one or two to make things a bit easier. Others may have a more technical reason to choose one over the other.
I especially changed the analog sensitivity! Without adjusting that, it’s a wild ride!
It could be that !
I need to “wake up” the controller before launching MSFS and see what happens. Most of the time my controller is asleep (power button off) when launching MSFS.
Thanks for the tip.
The XBOX Controllers dont really work in this game. The rudders dont work on the controller either. Asobo deliberately does not want to fix the broken XBOX controller because it wants to sell peripherals (they get money from the manufacturers for that).
I hope for you that you didnt buy the game and just bought game pass. Otherwise you need spend a couple hundred more for a decent rig with yoke an rudders to make the game worth it.
I did buy the game, and am mostly very happy with it, even if some bugs are quite frustrating.
I already own several yoke, throttles and hotas systems, being an avid flightsimmer since decades.
The game controller is a very nice way to use External and Drone views while I use yoke or joystick (depending on plane) to fly the aircraft.
The workarounds explained above (saving multiple config files, and powering up the controller before launching MSFS) do the job for me.
