Thank you I will look into it.
Itās not just you. Iāve also had a similar issue on the Xbox Series X where things start to become a bit ājudderyā in the A320 after about an hour and a half. It becomes particularly noticeable, or possibly is even triggered, as I descend to lower altitudes and on approach.
Iāve been using the A320 Neo autopilot whenever this happens so I have been wondering if itād connected somehow.
Using the ātravel toā function seems to clear it up and get the performance back on track.
how long into the flight this happens ? i have a series s also.
Ranges from 30 mins to 1,5 hrs. But in general after one hour or so I have what I call a power point presentation. It occurs at every flight, independent of time of day, weather or chosen aircraft. As another user said, it seems something āfills upā the sim during the flight until the point where the fps are so low that the sim comes to kind of a standstill. Sometimes it happens to me after 30 mins, sometimes after 1 hour.
So for now, the sim is rather a tech demo than a working simulator because the only meaning of a FS is to run steady over 5, 6 or 10 hours without crash, freeze or FPS drop. Only when this state is achieved it is a proper flight simulator.
Iām with FS since 1996 and I can tell you, every version had itās ups and downs, thatās the nature of this kind of software. A flight simulator is the most demanding software for any given computer. FS2004 (my favorite by the way, I used it with hundreds of addons - never a single !!! crash) ran fine since 2007. Before, even with powerhorses of PCs (at that time) the experience was choppy, to put it mildly.
So for FS2020 to run on an actual Xbox in this insane quality is a feat without equal in the history of FS, despite all the bugs and problems. (I remember very well FS2000, a nightmare!).
Iām sure, Asobo will make the sim stable eventually. Not today and not tomorrow, since - again - this is the nature of a brand new flight simulator. And despite what many others say, that the sim is already one year out, for a project of that scale, it is still brand new (and on top of this the team at Asobo has to cope with the legacy of FSX, easily the absolute worst sim ever built). So they have not only to iron out the legacy code of FSX, they have to adapt the software to the architecture of modern hardware as well as the Xbox.
I have read that many simmers wanted the sim released only when it is completely finished and bug free. IMHO that would have been in 2030 LOL. We should be glad that the sim is available already, despite all the (partly really serious) bugs and issues.
It is also - at least as far as I remember - the first time in the history of MSFS, that a developer team such as Asobo is so open during the development, making things really transparent for us users. Some simmers wrote about the āradio silenceā of Asobo during the last few days⦠LOL⦠regarding the former versions of FS there was always a complete radio silence - before and after launch of the sim. There was never any kind of real communication between MS and the flightsimmers⦠at least not on that level what we have today.
TL;DR - I understand that everybody wants a well working sim, me included. But itās just not the way the development of such a groundbraking sim works. Itās difficult and time consuming, no matter how impatient we are.
If we want a full flight sim experience we have to use commercial simulators like the CAE 7000XR Series Full-Flight Simulator. A real level D simulator costs about $ 12 millions. 'Iāve had the privilege to use such a simulator once for one hour, it was a birthday present. I could fly a 737-400 from Vienna to Innsbruck. A breathtaking experience BUT, and that concludes my ramblings LOL - when I fly the FS2020 on Xbox on my 4K TV, it comes darn near what the level D sim looked then. So again, what Asobo has achieved so far is stunning and breathtaking, even with annoying bugs like the current limitation to about an hour flight time due to the degradation problem.
It will get better, Iām sure of it.
Hmm, I have made several flights of 1 hour to 1,5 hours which is my usual flight time. I have been flying on PC before the Xbox release.
I had no such issues, btw.
I flew with Cessna 208 and King Air.
All on Series S.
I use Autopilot in ALT/VS/HDG/NAV Modes (whatever is needed at the time of flight)
Would be interesting to replicate your situation on my Series S, but if airplane and route are not a deciding factor, I donāt know how.
Interesting! I have this since day one (well, ok, after the hotfix anyway, before the sim crashes every 3 mins LOL). I fly the Caravan too and the TBM.
A typical flight where the aforementioned FPS drops happens is from Edinburgh to Stansted. I flew this several times at different day and night times with different weather also. Went to FL31 then descending into Stansted. When Iām in the vicinity of Stansted, around 15 miles out, the slideshow starts (I have the UK world update btw.). When I look left or right, the sim almost freezes, with crackling audio - very scary ![]()
Then I make it barely to the runway with very low FPS, crackling sounds all over the place. When I look around, the sim comes to a standstill. When I look only in front of me, Iām able to land⦠sort of. All those lags etc. are also in the menus, when I quit the flight back to the main menu. Only after closing and restarting the sim everything is back to normal.
If you like, make a flight from Edinburgh to Stansted, best in good weather with good visibility. Fly to FL31, then descent into Stansted (I always use an IFR flightplan btw.). Would be interesting if you experience the same issues as I do.
Edit: The flight I described was with the TBM, if you want to recreate it in your sim.
Post in here too.
I made several posts already in different topics. Iām sure Asobo is aware of all these issues, letās just see if and how the next hotfixes work. But it would be really interesting if you experience the same issues with the same plane on the same route on your Series S. But as said, it happens anywhere and is not restricted to these particular airports or the UK.
yes I will try to do this flight on the next weekend.
Thank you! FYI: Iāve made the same flight today (TBM, Edinburgh to Stansted) in rainy weather (preset) and got the same results as always. When near Stansted, the crackling audio starts coupled with massive FPS drops almost to a standstill of the sim. Could barely land, when looking left and right loud crackling noises and slideshow.
Unfortunately I couldnāt see any fix for all that in the patch notes for the upcoming hotfix. Ah well, maybe next time⦠![]()
So I will make the flight pretty much vanilla with only the world updates from the marketplace installed, especially the UK one.
Any extra scenery you have used ? I usually have Exhanced Airport Graphics and Airex Europe on, but I can turn it off before the flight.
Very kind of you! No, Iām just using vanilla FS, at least until it is stable enough that I dare to buy addons ![]()
Hopefully in the future default airports will have their terminals back also, not just floating air bridges⦠sighā¦
Looking forward to your report! Fingers crossed!
But you have the World Updates installed from the Marketplace ? They are free and optional but also contain patches besides the optical design of the world and airports.
Yes, I have all world updates installed.
Edit: On the handcrafted airports of said world updates the buildings are always there⦠so the missing buildings are most likely a streaming issue. But I donāt have enough insight to really understand the problem⦠one more to the list for Asobo! ![]()
are you using a Rolling Cache ?
if itās on. Maybe try with off (I have mine switched off).
If the Rolling Cache has faulty scenery in it, it may not overwrite it because it thinks it already has that scenery.
I have recently deleted the rolling cache and enabled it again with another size of GB. But even with the cache off itās just the same, unfortunately.
Got updated info on the FPS issue:
Since yesterday I actually followed the advice on the āKnown issuesā page of Flight Simulator, which reads (under CTDs):
Downloading ~25 GB of content and entering a flight durations of 2+ hours may cause a crash or service disconnection issue
Workaround:
On Xbox: press the Xbox (jewel) button on the console face once, which places the console into connected standby mode. Then, press it again to wake it back up.
I do this now when booted up FS and when Iām still in the main menu (before entering the world map to set up and start a flight). After that I start a flight and was so far able to finish flights up to 90 mins without the usual FPS degradation and without any CTDs.
Interestingly enough since I do this on most arrival airports the buildings are there!! Previously most of the terminal buildings at any given (default) airport were only visible at the departure airport but when landing on the arrival airport most of the buildings were gone, there were just floating fingerdocks until quitting and restarting the sim. Then of course all buildings were back.
Donāt know if this is kind of a coincidence or if the latest hotfix actually changed something or if itās really this āstandby and wakeupā procedure I do now on the box.
Will monitor this and will report back if necessary. Fingers crossed! ![]()
alright, so I can hold off trying to replicate the flight. Hope it stays that way for you.
Yes, thank you. Also, I hope that you have a great flight experience on your box! Keep the blue side up! ![]()
Interesting because I can fly between 3-5 hours before I noticed the frames drop and it crashes a few minutes after. I am on the Series S, no idea why I can fly longer than what some people are saying.
