Xbox Series X is struggling to run MSFS 2024 compared to PC

Oh I truly hope so. Don’t get me wrong, I also believe MSFS 2024 is going to be incredible over the long run. With MSFS 2020, I solely flew passenger jets because I didn’t really see a massive benefit in flying the Piper Cub, Cessna or any other GA aircraft. But with FS2024’s level of detail, I’m feeling extremely tempted to take a Piper Cub and land somewhere in the wilderness in Alaska and go for a hike. The level of detail and immersion is awesome.

I was originally counting on the Series X to play FS2024, as my PC is quite outdated. I’m counting on fixes to performance and visuals on consoles over the coming months. If not, I guess I’m going to be upgrading my PC.

The dynamic lod is probably the biggest issue on console, which pair with the absolute absence of graphic settings. You probably don’t even need it if you’re not flying airliners or very complex aircraft. They could at least gives us different graphics mode.

Seeing also that really bad performance. It’s nearly impossible to land correctly when the fps are just getting too low.
Also there is all the time stuttering in sudden fps drops.
I don’t think the console is enough to run this sim.
By that, I don’t understand why Microsoft even released it on console.

I have a bunch of flights in 2024 now and have not experienced stuttering or poor flight performance like we had in 2020. On Series X here with a fast ethernet connection to the internet. Wondering if some combination of game server load and internet congestion could be causing some to have poor performance? About graphics? About the same as 2020 to me.

I would’ve thought there would be a performance and fidelity mode. A lot of AAA have this nowadays, especially those published by Xbox Game Studios

Because they wanted to keep it mainstream. Mainstream means more users. And more users means more sales for Bredok and CaptainSim. Which means more commission for Microsoft/Asobo through the in-game marketplace. But they just completely winged it. It’s pretty obvious no testing was done. They even officially announced that they were aware of issues “in the final days of development” but apparently it was too late to fix before launch. See screenshot attached.

I mean, it literally takes one effective decision to postpone the launch and delay the game, especially if you are certain that there are issues. But pre-orders were made and little care was given.

They’re going to lose a customer base, not just from Xbox, but from PC as well. I’ve seen posts online of people considering a move to X-Plane after FS2024’s awful launch.

Strange, I have heard some users have been ok with it on console. It does look like an extreme minority though. But in your case, is it airline/commercial flights? Or just GA flights? I can also do GA flights with very few problems. In fact career mode has been working with the C172, minus the odd blurries and LOD issues at times. But flying commercial is simply (and sadly) impossible.

My approach to new things in MSFS is always start low and go slow. Started flying the default C172 on day one in 2024. Took a few days to get some hardware control profiles up and running. Then progressed through default piston twins and added single engine turbines over the weekend. All along reading about all the issues folks were having with the heavy metal. So to answer your questions, no not airliners or commercial yet. While I am curious about career mode, I see no reason to go there in week one given all the bugs that are being reported.

While I do feel for folks who are disappointed about all the new Airbus, Boeing, and bizjets that are not ready yet; and of course Career mode which sounds promising; I have also reset my own expectations that all this great new stuff will work right out of the box. Will stick to my plan of starting low and going slow, adding complexity commensurate with actual success in 2024.

For airliner fix, I go back to 2020 to fly with Navigraph, SimBrief, PMDG, and add-on scenery. That stuff will come to 2024 over time, meanwhile I have 2020 to enjoy for hard core IFR flight.

I’ve had fs2020 for xbox since day 1, with 1800 hours flown, most of them on series S, more than 200 add-ons of all kinds installed on the small console, not always 100% functional, and seeing how the updates were killing the initial quality to prioritize performance, I decided to jump to a series X, with very few add-ons installed and flying mainly PMDG planes, the quality returned, until the launch of fs2024, history seems to repeat itself and the natural evolution seems to be to jump to a PC which I will not do, with my series X I will continue flying my PMDG 738/777 in fs2020 and in fs 2024 I will use it to fly in Career mode without too many pretensions.

A few months after 2020 was released I had a drop in fps on Series X. Couldn’t work out why it was so bad. In the end I did full delete and reinstall but had the same performance! So then I removed all add-ons and performance was transformed. Slowly added them back, starting with the MS World Updates etc before moving onto 3rd party add-ons. Turned out it was single ORBX airport that was causing the fps issue. Didn’t matter that I was flying hundreds of miles from it. So my point is, 2024 has no ability to disable add-ons at the moment, they are all streamed. My fps is also poor and it may not be related but the first thing I’d like to try is disabling all add-ons and test.

Yes, hopefully we are able to disable add-ons soon.
I’m also thinking that the performance problems might be caused by some. As other XSX players mention their performance isn’t that bad

Yep, its unplayable for me on series x. Terrible textures, 2008 frame rates. Crashing. Etc

I have to say i did not expect it. I assumed they would have built up on the somewhat stable 2020 build and added the additional features.

The devs should be utterly ashamed & microsoft should be issuing some serious apologies/refunds etc.

On the CEO’s latest blog not even a hint of an apology and xbox still selling the game…

Back to 2020, this game will take years of fixes/updates

Yup, 9th December seems to be the date for that patch that’ll allow us to disable addons. However I still find it strange how this wasn’t included at launch. So many things could’ve gone wrong with untested FS2020 addons being forced at launch.

What a disappointment ! All the way around. Can’t even play a Microsoft game on a Microsoft product aka xbox. Can I get my money back…like for ALL of it. Xbox X included?

Series x here. Little to none stuttering exept 1st 3 days. But ongoing issue for me is that after missions in career mode tha game crashes after the “report” when i log in again the game count it as a missed mission causing my reputation to go bad… i dont know… this bums me out bigtime. Rep D because i did A+ missions. Im on the verge of saying unplayable in career mode really. It has happened about 10 times in the last 4 days. Now im going to bed while i still have a yoke.
