Xbox series X MSFS - old tv (Sony Bravia) or new monitor (144HZ, VRR and 4K)?

Hi all,

I am writing because I would like some opinion on the following question: I have got a Sony Bravia TV (2018), 4K but max 60 Hz and no VRR. I have read some articles stating that going for at least 120 HZ and VRR will unlock the sim to go beyond 30 fps (max 60). I am considering now buying a monitor for gaming, especially now we are awaiting the release of MSFS 2024 (144 hz, VRR and 4K). Does anyone have experience if it is worth the investment? Put in different way: will there be any differences in the gaming experience for MSFS? By the way, I am considering to buy a Philips 32M1N5800A/00 for 650 euro’s. Thanks for your opinion and experiences to share :slightly_smiling_face:

Best bang for the buck is usually the Hisense U7 with 144K and VRR capable. Problem being the smallest is 55"(which is what I use). Best sub-$1K(by a notable margin) gaming TV. Mine’s the older version non QLED/120HZ and still works great with the PC and XBSX. But the U7 will give you little green check marks on everything in the XB TV properties menu.

Just not the best ‘family TV’ with lower viewing angles. Next logical move up is the 48" B4 LG OLED.

You’re always going to pay more for a monitor for sure. There’s nothing besides Phillips at that price point, MSI or something? But if you can fit a 55" TV you can go ‘life size’-although it needs to be movable if you play FPS games you’d get dizzy

If the TV can do 60hz (frames per second) then if your video card can run it at 60fps, it will. No need for vrr to “unlock” 60 fps.

Try it before buying anything new.

The XBSX can runs most games at 12OHZ beyond 60fps, I had a 60hz 4K originally and went to 2.1 120HZ 4K VRr and it made a difference. I forgot I originally capped it at 60 for FS because of artifacts but by SU12 I was 120hz VRR. Other than the menu videos being goofy it was great. Doubt FS will hit 60fps regularly 4k on an SX but a more capable TV with HDMI 2.1 opens up all the settings.
