Xbox Series X review: SLH Sim Designs' Robert L. Bradshaw TKPK

Aircraft used: ATR, BlackBox BN-2 / Shorts 360, PMDG DC-6
Live weather: on

Another Caribbean airport by SLH (the penultimate one) which, as is typical for the area, gets its name from a local politician…

DETAIL

Being the second-to-last airport released by SLH (the latest being Grenada), St. Kitts TKPK features a level of detail that easily rivals its predecessor (Terrance B. Lettsome TUPJ) and surpasses his early projects (i.e. TQPF, TDPD and TFFR).

The terminal building is a beauty and features a detailed interior (minus arrivals/customs/immigration areas due to security sensitivities) that features static passengers. Its landside is extremely well modelled, with custom roadways, car-parks, cars, lamp-posts, barriers, signs, vegetation and telegraph poles/cables. Texturing is high-res across the entire airfield, and the terrain work — which includes a number of concrete drainage ditches — is outstanding. The taxiways from the runway to the apron are on a downward incline and so your aircraft behaves accordingly when traversing them.

Away from the terminal there’s not a great deal airside — as you’d expect from a small international airport in this part of the world —however what is here is of good quality. The ground textures are well done with the apron, taxiways and runway all exhibiting convincing signs of weathering and general wear and tear.

Outside the airfield perimeter there’s not too much modelling (typical for SLH airports) but we do get an airfield perimeter road (which culminates in a decorative roundabout) complete with streetlights. Further away we see a couple of large cruise liners in the town’s harbour, and since I don’t have Seafront’s Vessels: Virgin Islands pack, they’re quite a welcome sight (although they don’t have night-lighting).

PERFORMANCE

Anyone who’s read my previous two reviews of SLH airports will likely know what’s coming here… stability and performance are flawless. There really is little more to say — no stutters, no black screens, no crashes, even after very heavy drone use. It’s great when you have an airport that you know isn’t going to let you down.

VERDICT

Again, not too much to say. Another superb scenery from SLH, that fits nicely into the sim’s Caribbean regional environment. SLH’s other airfields are only a short flight away, as are Asobo’s own hand-crafted Antilles airports. With the quality this region is now seeing, this month’s Caribbean World Update can’t come quick enough, and I really hope it covers the majority of the islands upon which SLH has airports. This dev’s superb work deserves the surroundings to complement it.

My only complaint, from a Xbox point-of-view, is that SLH began omitting static aircraft after TQPF, due to complaints from PC users. Understandable, of course, but it would be great if he could facilitate console simmers in future by offering tailored Xbox versions. Of SLH’s current offerings, only Pointe-a-Pitre happens to be covered by LVFR’s static aircraft pack.
