Xbox Series X Rolling Cache

what is the best size for XBSX and does increasing it improve performance. Also any advantage deleting it and not using rolling cache?

The benefit is that it caches some data, so it doesn’t have to stream the same data to you all the time. If you find yourself flying in the same areas often, it might make sense to have it turned on.

If you have plenty of bandwidth available (say well over 50Mbps), you can leave it turned off. In any case, I wouldn’t really suggest increasing it over the default 8GB, since (apart from if you have low bandwidth) it doesn’t increase performance.

I have tried mine a default 8GB , off zero and currently have it set at 100GB. I find with it larger I see more details in large cities, especially if you frequent them. I don’t get stutters, game plays very smooth for me outside of a few airports that seem to have issues in coding.
My internet speed is 700MB so quite fast. But there can still be bottle necks on the server side, Xbox in general tends to download slower than my regular internet.

I’ve been trying to play with this to see if it makes a difference because the stuttering on the XB since the last update is ridiculous.

I initially had it on 20gb, then found it performed better at 4gb. I’m going to try increasing. Do you notice an improvement right away or after you have loaded up certain areas?

I noticed improvement right away. You might want to delete cache first and then set it again.

Posted elsewhere on here but seems the official line from a previous dev update Twitch stream. How much difference the SSD makes to its use vs internet speed I don’t know.
‘All the rolling cache does is put world data into a FIFO cache on disk so that when flying over an area twice, the data isn’t streamed from the internet again. Each http request will first check the presence of the data on disk before reading it from the internet. Data is not changed in any way and is stored on disk in exactly the same format as it is received from the internet. In some situations, the HDD access may be slower than high speed internet access, but for the majority, the cache will reduce and / or prevent terrain streaming lag. In all cases, the rolling cache will reduce the internet data usage and free up bandwidth for other uses when users fly over the same area again. We recommend a rolling cache of at least 8Gb, 32Gb being enough for most use cases. In most cases the sim will stream world data at an average below 10Mbps. The rolling cache does not impact user experience when they fly over new areas however. We have not thoroughly tested the benefits of creating huge caches of hundreds or thousands of gigs but given how the system works, as the cache grows bigger and bigger, it’s benefits should fade out and it will take a lot of time to even fill up the cache.’

I tend to do this after each update (as its resolved issues in the past).

WIth the new update 1.21.13.0 my FS was stuttering like never before, really awfull. I then checked the rolling cache and saw, that it was deactivated with the update. I turned it back to a siye of 16GB and thank god now everything is working fine again.

How to do you increase the cashe size? I need to try this. There are some cities (Seattle, NYC) that I avoid because the stutters are particularly brutal. (Xbox X)

I’m a PC gamer (not sure if this makes a difference or not), but for me the rolling cache is a malefactor.

It’s in the setting options General options, Data. Go there and scroll down you will see it. Delete the cache first and then put in the new size you want.
