Xbox Sx best/suggested cache size?

Hello,

Is there a sweet spot for setting the rolling cache size?

I have a 2TB Xbox and currently set the cache size to 100GB. However, I don’t see any improvement in performance or loading times. When I initialize a free flight from the same airport I normally fly from, it takes time. The “fly now” button is unclickable because the mouse/cursor can’t be moved while the game, evetually still is loading stuff and blocks the UI thread.

I don’t think the rolling cache speeds up loading stuff. What I understood from watching the last dev stream, the rolling cache holds onto stuff you’ve downloaded so it doesn’t have to download that again. Unless something changes in what you have downloaded, then it will grab those files again. If you’ve got a high speed connection, you might not notice any speed difference between streaming and pulling from the cache.

I wonder if the files in the rolling cache are compressed still, as they might be for saving bandwidth while streaming.

Since they are calling it a cache, it suggests that the game pulls the files from there and loads it into the space used during play. Possibly memory.

As far as a recommended size, I set mine to 32GB. I’ve got Google Fiber and have a wired connection for my Xbox, so I think that should be sufficient for me. If you’ve got a monthly download limit and routinely fly in the same area, having a larger cache can help keep you flying.

Once we get the ability to download aircraft, having a larger cache can be nice if you like flying a bunch of different aircraft.

Remember you can easily make the rolling cache bigger, but if you want to make it smaller you’ve got to go into the Xbox Manage Game & Addons settings and delete the big file there. Then on the next load into the game it defaults back to 16GB.

Thanks for the answer. I will resize it to something smaller then. I also have a high speed internet *800Mbs download and 400 upload. Lets hope they improve performance on Xbox somehow… otherwise Im gonna spend 2k in new gaming rig LOL

I have moved my cache from 50, to 75, to 100, to 200GB and unlimited bandwidth. With a 100Mbps low latency (less than 10 ms) ethernet connection to a fibre to the router network I haven’t noticed any improvement.

I just set up a night approach to KJFK. The sim stuttered and stopped while the landscape below was rendered gradually in chunks. The terminal and Ai planes were low res and unfinished. The most the servers sent me was a 260 kbps feed.

No cache size fixes anything on Xbox, I also think the cache is not working, you can fly over a zone then go back to that zone and the photogrammetry is worse than the first time the images were streamed.

I assume that they are throttling the data that is streamed to Xbox users.

How do you delete the cache or reduce it?

I’ve set to 128gb but noticed no difference so might put it back to 64gb.

You need to go into the Manage Game Data within the Xbox Dashboard. The cache is in the same screen you would find the Save Game Data for the game.

I bet it is throttled for all users. No reason to single out the Xbox side.

Thanks must be the reserved space then, I might just keep it at 128gb mind.

Luckily deleting the reserved space doesn’t delete key bindings and stuff like that, if I do decide to delete it. I know this as when I did a reinstall all my avatar and key bindings were linked to my save game file.

Hi all,

I have a pretty bad internet connection but MSFS2024 is the only game I have loaded on the hard drive of my Series S. It’s showing about 300Gb free with MSFS2024 loaded so I was thinking of making a 256Gb cache. What would the downsides of a big cache like that be? I generally fly around London and the South of England and around the Balearic islands in GA planes with a few London to Barcelona trips on airliners. London seems to be the biggest drain and I would love to have London popping each time I fly over.
