Hey everyone, I just found a very strange thing about my TV, and I was wondering if anyone knows if it’s safe to do this. Basically, I’m currently running my XSX on 4K UHD, and previously MSFS 2020 would be running on a stable 30 FPS. This has always been the case with my TV’S Game Mode set to ON. However, yesterday I turned off Game Mode and suddenly I had a 60+ FPS experience on MSFS 2020. What’s even stranger, is that my TV does not have VRR. Simple turning off GAME MODE has led to the 30 FPS cap being lifted. I am wondering, does anyone understand the mechanism behind this? Has anyone experienced this before?
I think it’s a good question that needs some answers. There are so many XBox settings re HDR/VRR/60Hz/120Hz/Dolbyvision etc. Yet mysteriously no recommended settings for optimal FS2020 performance.
When I try to find out framerate on my LG OLED UHD TV all I get is a report of ‘fixed’ or ‘VRR’ with no report of precise framerates involved. I have it switched to Gaming display mode too, but thought this was just a visual output thing (brighter colours etc), and had no effect on FS2020 framerate. Who knows, there are too many variables and not enough official recommendations.
However if you see the TV report a framerate of 60, is that really 60fps (in game/FS2020) or is it not just a symptom of a 60Hz refresh rate on XBox/TV ie FS2020 still outputting at 30 fps, so no real framerate improvement in game is really happening. I guess what I’m saying is that you can’t really be certain that what your TV tells you is actually what FS2020 is outputting.
On PC you can use the XBox gamebar to quickly find framerate out, not sure if this app is available on XBox though.
