Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft (Part 1)

And what’s your opinion about Analog Bonanza and King Air from Black Square? Which one do you prefer? Baron is out of equation as I own the Standard version.

Man, how good the Wilga is. For sure entering my top ten after the first flight !

I believe MS is having a sale on updates to the sim version. Not sure how much but might be worth it if you want to get mods like the Baron.

Yeah man!! Welcome to the club (…finally) heheh

Just flew a quick flight with my new Wilga. Started it “ready to fly,” so I haven’t played with any buttons or knobs, or experienced the depth of the mod, but it was fun to fly.

My list for Apr 2023

  1. GF Mini 500
  2. FSW Cessna 414
  3. Zenith CH701 STOL
  4. Kodiak 100
  5. BS BN2 Islander
  6. JF Turbo Arrow 3
  7. Asobo Husky
  8. Caproni-Vizzola C-22
  9. Carenado C170B
  10. Asobo X-Cub

I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying the Mini 500. Previous favorite chopper was the Robinson R44 with custom flight model. It’s given me knew hope for choppers in this sim and I’ll likely buy another.

After having seen the FlyByWire A380 cockpit yesternight, I don´t know anymore if the Fenix A320 or the FlyByWire A380 has the more detailed and better and more sophisticated and awesome cockpit.

So here is the list:

1.) Fenix Airbus FlybyWire A380
2.) Flysimware Cessna 414 Chancellor
3.) whatever…

It does seem rather fun … random video I made earlier:

Well I was wrong. They still don’t make sense

So… I am removing the 3 737’s (for which I think I made an exception for you last time and counted all variants!), and remove the Airbus Fenix A320. Is the A380 out now then?! I didn’t know about that if it is?

So you only have 2 planes now? And we pretend the Maddog never happened

Is that right?

I meant Fenix Airbus 320 and FlyByWire A380. Especially the A380 will go so far beyond quality and perfection that you will enter that cockpit through the Matrix.
And of course that Wilga is awesome too, forgot about this one.

Hm I only need one or two perfectly simulated study-level planes, sometimes I call it the Microsoft Fenix Simulator  but some diversity would be nice indeed, Winglets and freighter version etc…

Ah right yeah but you put 2 on one line. A380 isn’t available yet though, right? Or you have beta or something?

And you want to add Wilma?

My votes:

  1. Rara Avis’Flying Flea’
The only old fashioned ultralight i know of, this craft is so beautifully made it captured my heart in a way no other MSFS plane has. Many liveries, many looks and different engines, plus a very interesting flight model, i feel like i’m transported into a past i never knew when i’m flying it. Just a stunning piece of work all-round

  2. Parallel 42 ‘Freedom Fox’
Possibly the best viewing platform for sight-seeing i have in my collection, power, stability and a feeling of complete safety because of its beastly attributes, sometimes it feels like gravity doesn’t matter at all with this plane, it goes up in ways others simply cannot.

  3. Progressive Aerodyne inc ‘Searey’
Again a very nice viewing platform from the seat, i like flying with the window open, and being a boat plane i can land pretty much everywhere. Fast and powerful climb-rate.

  4. Simworks Studios ‘Vans Aircraft RV-14A’
Feels a bit like a UFO, astounding view and very modern with regard to inside tech and gadgets.

  5. Gotfriends ‘Edgely Optica’
Excellent viewing platform again, but not quite as good as the Freedom Fox for sight-seeing simply because i don’t find it to be as stable in the air, even though it has that incredibly canopy.

  6. Ant’s Airplanes ‘Drifter A-582’
I’m starting to see a pattern in my plane choices, once again amazing sight-seeing possibilities, though fuel capacity is worryingly small.

  7. Carenado ‘Cessna C170B Tundra’
A good all-rounder with beautiful detail inside and out.

  8. Rara Avis ‘Zippy Sport’
Simple and airy, another tourists plane with a decidedly 1980’s vibe, much more fun to fly than you might expect by looking at its odd shape.

  9. DC Designs ‘Steerman Model 75’
Very fun plane though i have heard people say, perhaps not the most realistic flight model

  10. Asobo ‘Top Rudder 103 Solo’
Nice views, but slower than a snail struggling against the wind.

That’s all

I’ve had MSFS for about a month and a half. Long time casual flight simmer with a decent amount of hours in FS 2004, FSX and X-Plane 11. High fidelity systems aren’t as important as accurate flight models and performance vs published numbers. I enjoy planes that I’d want to fly in real life – VFR, slow, but not too slow, short-haul cargo/pax (1.5 hours is really stretching it) and general sightseeing. In order:

BN-2 Islander/Black Box – Stable, easy to fly, great sounds, surprisingly excellent STOL performance. I’ll be spending a lot of time in this around the Carribean and UK/North Sea/North Atlantic.

Piper Archer II/Carenado – I have a lot of right seat time in the real thing. My dad owned one for about 20 years. Carenado did a solid, unspectacular job on a solid, unspectacular airplane. The excellent interior and sound bring back a lot of good memories.

PC-6 Porter/Blackbird – Yaw/lack of yaw issues aside, a fun and competent “mission” aircraft. Great visual interior modelling. Beta descents are fun. Didn’t kill myself on my first MSFS night flight from Telluride to Durango thanks to the glass cockpit version. Survived my first attempts at Bugalaga and TFFJ, but we won’t talk about Lukla – it’s a “me” thing, not the airplane. Slow cruise speed and poor side visibility keep it from the top of the list.

Cessna 152/Asobo WB-Sim/JPL – Slow for my tastes but a joy to fly for quick hops in scenic areas. This is an excellent model for both brand new simmers and experienced folks.

L-19 Bird Dog/Black Box – Bounce one landing, grease the next three, float the next two, rinse and repeat. Great visibility and sounds – I don’t know if Black Box just picks cool sounding aircraft or if they’re just really good at aircraft sounds. My go-to for Appalachian short flights and ego checks when I think I’m getting to be a good sim pilot.

DHC-2 Beaver/Asobo & Blackbird – Like the PC-6, a great interior model. Much easier to fly and manage than Thranda’s XP11 Beaver. Something feels a little off or muted in the flight model, but I can’t put my finger on it. I might give the mod a shot that I recently saw for this plane. An obvious choice for coastal Alaska and Western Canada.

Mooney M20R/Carenado – It’s ok. Annoyingly pitch-sensitive, which I notice with a lot of MSFS planes. I do experience some frame rate hits with this one.

Cessna 172 G1000/Asobo – Great for a default aircraft. I’m just a little worn out on 172s after all these years.

PAC-750 XSTOL/Orbx – A relatively fast, low-wing utility turboprop. I didn’t think the anemic sound would bother me, but it does. Easy enough to fly from point A to point B, solid STOL capabilities, good side visibility for a low-wing. Long nose makes for some adventurous climbs in New Zealand’s and Nepal’s mountains. It just has a very generic feel to it. Almost like a slightly upgraded default Asobo airplane.

*** Kodiak 100/SWS – An incomplete grade or ranking at this point. Just bought it yesterday during the sale. I hesitated on buying this due to what I’ve read and watched from Alpine and others – I like flying airplanes and not operating systems. Very nervous in pitch and yaw during takeoff and climb. Engine management is fine, and my first landings on standard 2500-3000’ runways were OK. Very good cockpit visibility and performance up and over the hills and mountains in western Washington. I feel like I have to approach this like I would a DCS full fidelity module, but it’s worth taking a shot for $18. This could end up being near the top or it could collect dust.

*** I promise to be more brief in future updates.

Welcome to the forums, Mike!
(At least I assume that’s your name or there’s an echo in here :stuck_out_tongue: )

The more description the better for me, so don’t hold back!

Thanks. You’ve started a great thread here, and it’s helped me a lot for sorting through all the available aircraft.

The echo is a riff off an old GEICO car insurance commercial here in the States. But yes, my name is Mike :grinning:.

For the Porter, you’ll get more side visibility if you detach the doors  I love the wind noises with the doors off.

Cheers mate  :+1:

So the 146 didn’t make the grade?

And the Islander got a very short lived appearance before you remembered the DC-6 again lol (yep, I saw that  )

Yes.. there are SO many honorable mentions… The Islander is great.. RedWing Super Connie should be on there too. So many aircraft, so few places. 146 doesn’t make the grade. It’s a wonderful simulation, but I am afraid it’s not my bag. I don’t particularly enjoy flying airliners without basic glass.

Oh, you got that G1000 mod for the DC-6 then did ya?! :stuck_out_tongue:
