Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft (Part 1)

As I delivered my list in alphabetical order here is my Top 3 list in favourite order:

1 - A2A Comanche
2 - Denarq Beech 18
3 - JF 146

With a lot of aircraft you could probably just copy the Asobo_C152.PC.PCK into the 140 sound folder rename it to match the previous .PCK file and regenerate the layout.json but the 140 seems to have quite a complex custom sound system.

The engine sounds do seem to just be wave files in the sound folder you likely could just open each of them in a wav editor reduce the volume and save them if you just want a quieter engine.

Hello,
This is my 1st post to honor this great thread.
Decades ago I’ve flown IRL gliders and Piper Cubs.
I have to admit that I don’t like checklists and I don’t read (sorry, I know I should) the manuals
I just like hand and gut flying. Maybe that’s why IRL I don’t fly anymore and ended up skydiving
In msfs, I mostly fly GA, warbirds and military jets.
What hooked me to msfs was the Xcub, it reminded me those past years.

Soooo. The exercise of a top 10 is not easy for me.

My 1. is the DoubleEnder. Wear and Tear, persistance and a great flight model. It’s the best pleasant aircraft for me.
2. Xcub with a 215 HP mod from Bush League Legends. I feel home with it.
3. //42 Fox 2. Easy and enjoyable.
4. Sting S4. I like the look and the cockpit. I really like this aircraft but
maybe it feels a bit “too heavy” (it needs more input on the stick than other light aircraft)
5. Van’s RV-14. Less refined

I can’t put an order for the others.

For the warbirds, I prefer the Corsair followed by Flyingiron Spitfire followed by Bf-109.
These were very challenging to take off and land until I switch my hardware to Virpil
It really makes a difference !

For the military jets, I like the DC Design F-16 and the IFE F-35. I’m waiting for the IFE F-14.

I can’t even reeber what’s on my list anymore, let alone the order

Yeah you can! You have one of the shortest lists in the world

It’s:

  • Tiger Moth
  • JF 146
  • Black square King Air
  • Cowansim MD500
  • DHC-2 Beaver

And you said something about some kind of A2A aircraft
but you didn’t actually give a July list yet

Add that?

  • A2A Comanche - finally a small aircraft with good feel. I debate if it stops rolling that fast, buf I fly with a stick & its probably fine with a yoke unless you’re violent. Stall/spin behaviour is very nice. Depth is amazing. Some of us are having some problems with low fps animations. Huge black mark for installing executables into Appdata, and worse, overwriting links I put in when I have to move them somewhere sensible. Get it. But people please stop putting applications in my profile, it screws things up.
  • Tiger Moth - lovely. Needs new external engine sound & cockpit wind noise. Doesn’t matter, get it.
  • JF 146 - I think the full FMS is imminent, at least that was the timetable. Bit more direct than when it came out. Easily the best regional jet, especially with the cargo versions.
  • C-160 Transall ( you missed that one! ) - looks like there’s an update due soon, just the announcement killed my only real worry about that one. Fantastic beast.
  • BS King Air. FM got a minor tweak but most people won’t be bothered. Won’t blame it entirely for recalcitrant 750 bootups, but be aware there’s an issue with the PMS one atm.
  • Cowansim MD500 - got more inertia ( about 50% I think ) after a chat with Cowan, and I pulled the trim sensitivity back, just mild tweaking. Still has a slight right bank sometimes. With tweaks has a coordinated fluid feeling, as much as MSFS helis can be. Is the Cowan choice because nearly everything in the cockpit works, mostly because there isn’t much!
  • C414: Got a couple of mild tweaks after chatting to a Cessna twin pilot because he thought it needed some relaxing ( felt like that to me too but I’m not a Cessna twin pilot ), but again minor. Great quality systems & modelling.

The Beaver’s fallen off again after the Comanche upped everything.

Not in the list but I’d recommend anyway:

  • Modded Beaver isn’t quite up there anymore. Still a STOL choice if I want to do that sort of thing, although I’m more likely to used my rather butchered ( and unfinished ) BN-2.
  • FI Spitfire: that bugbear, inertia, and that other bugbear, intrusive “stability” settings. There are flight test traces to illustrate how it should behave. It’s still great, although I find the new cockpit engine sounds tiresome.
  • FI Hellcat: almost in, the engine could do with a pass because it can be, um, “startling”.
  • JF F28: FM makes me angry at times by doing something immersion-breaking and the AP gets a bit drunk, sound & visuals are top notch
  • Hype 145 - needs the base FM tuned a bit more - it was actually quite nice to fly with the systems out at one point in the past, it’d help the AP too - and also the way the cyclic interacts with the AP still needs work because there’s some really harsh state transitions still, but recent updates have improved it massively. Yaw AP needs smoothing, the vibrating pedals are hilarious.
  • Cowan 222: great to fly but um, spartan, systems-wise and could do with some model work, All Cowan helis need the trim tweaked to be less aggressive and a bit more inertia. I have, after reflecting a bit, removed the H125 coz it’s just average & needs work everywhere.
  • Blackbox Trislander: Flew it around a bit recently, it’s not an A2A product & doesn’t pretend to be, but it’s interesting & different, and was the first aircraft I’ve had to force land in this sim ( on the first flight in it too ) because of carb icing, something I’d got used to not worrying about. The sim really promotes some bad habits

I’d love to put the Latecoere in - it’s very well done - but the sim’s lack of support for more than four sets of engine controls really cripples it, I don’t want to bind them all together and using the 3d controls is near impossible. The BS Baron needs too much fiddling - several pilot friends who don’t usually care so much have mentioned the handling - and the Sting would probably be fantastic in a sim that flattered really light aircraft better ( or someone discovers a trick like scaling the atmo density for that aircraft ) but feels rather lifeless in this one.The Boeing 247 is a glorious thing but the dev has disappeared, so probably not a safe bet. I wish I could put the DC-6 in but I won’t ,and it reminds me why every time I get in it :stuck_out_tongue:

Shout out to Dave Garwood’s Hunters - look really great outside, pretty good inside, and I’ve flown worse & had fun, and of course they’re free - and the CriCri, which is just a h ilarious thing to mess about in & I’ve flown worse than that too.

What would help a lot feel wise for both aircraft & helicopters is if there was more flex in the entire system. Not just graphical wing flex, but bits of aircraft ( this includes helicopters ) springing around. Rigidity isn’t natural, everything flexes to some extent.

Ah yes I, did miss the Transal last month, sorry! Just backtracking now, and I did add the 414, but you kept coming back adding 1 more with about 20 posts in between lol

Anyway I will double check and make sure it’s correct going forward. Let’s see if we can keep the actual list in a single post

Last month’s Top 10:

  1. SWS Kodiak
  2. Blackbird/Asobo DHC-2 Beaver
  3. Blackbird Cessna 310R
  4. Fenix Airbus A320
  5. Just Flight Arrows
  6. GotFriends DoubleEnder
  7. Black Square Caravan
  8. FlightFX Cirrus Vision Jet G2
  9. Latecoere Late-631
  10. Blackbird PC-6 Porter

For some unknown reason, I left the Spitfire off the list last month. This was a huge mistake. I copied/pasted my older list, which had Spitfire on it, but somehow I must have accidentally deleted it. We’ll fix that mistake today.

  1. A2A Comanche - What an amazing experience this plane is. Looks great, flies great, and has amazingly detailed simulations with the engine and every part of the aircraft. Already have nearly 30 hours in this and just can’t get enough of it. Currently flying the 11,000 NM Australia tour in this plane. It really made me nervous at first because of some of the bush strips, but when you get it slowed down to 85 or so, you can land it almost anywhere.

  2. FlyingIron Spitfire - After flying it around the world, I’ve retired it for a bit, but it’s not getting knocked off this list any time soon.

  3. SWS Kodiak - I experienced my first failure last week, when the engine blew up on me in an amphibious version. You’d think “hey, at least you were over water”, but no, there was an island I couldn’t clear. While I take really good care of the engines in these, the persistence is across all liveries and doesn’t reset, so I’m assuming I abused it back when I was learning the plane and it finally caught up with me.

  4. Fenix A320 - Currently flying for SAS in A Pilot’s Life v2 and try to get in a flight every day with the Fenix. Still a great plane, but I think we’re all learning that Fenix doesn’t do “small” updates. The v2 is going to be a HUGE update, but as such, it’s also taking forever.

  5. Blackbird Cessna 310R - They gotta fix the camera issues introduced in the latest patch, but still a great plane. Flying a big Brazil trip in this one, but it’s not getting as much time because Comanche exists.

  6. GotFriends DoubleEnder - This is my current bush plane of choice. There’s something about this plane that makes flying a few feet off the ground just exhilarating.

  7. FlySimWare Cessna 414AW Chancellor - Finally got a bit more quality time in this plane and it really is fantastic. I don’t think it would be a stretch to say A2A Comanche may have actually taken some inspiration from certain aspects of this plane and improved upon them. Really like flying this one with dual-750s.

  8. FlightFX Vision Jet - Still my business jet of choice.

  9. Blackbird PC-6 Porter - Struggled between the Beaver & Porter here, but I really just wish the Beaver had the systems depth that the iconic bird deserves. Blackbird is trying to do an update, but no guarantees yet.

  10. BlueMesh Latecoere Late-631 - Maybe the best Famous Flyer/Local Legend ever, and still improving. BlueMesh is very active on the forums and really appears dedicated to making great products for us to experience. It just received a patch a few days ago, but I haven’t had the chance to fly the updated version yet.

Knocking on the door:
Just got the 146 Professional today, so will be trying to put some time into that. The F28 Professional is fantastic too, but I haven’t had it up enough. Flew the Duckworks DC-3 on a several hour VOR-only flight a few days ago. Still knocking on the door of the Top 10 for me and it’s very close. Just Flight Arrows got knocked out by the Comanche, but I’d still fly them too and still rate them very highly. Black Square Caravan got knocked off the list, but that’s only because it’s so close to the Kodiak. I still love flying it and will probably buy one on NeoFly soon and really get some quality time with it around Alaska.

Thanks for returning  - Hope all is good :+1:

Hello! And thank you for the nice comment and your first list

I too love the DoubleEnder. Very well done and totally refreshing to fly.

but you just did put an order, lol

I guess I have to add this to my HeliHangar?! Was considering the B222 (50% off on Marketplace) and the Nemeth 500. But they are quite similar to what I have already where the Alouette is so different
hmm guess I’ll have to bust the wallet out again!

You’re up to 7 in the list now though - the sim must be getting good!

How could you!!! I won’t tell her. Lucky you finished your tour or she may have got revenge by dumping you in the sea at some point

(
sorry I didn’t spot it at the time
I should have reminded you, or maybe I thought you were sick of it after so much time in the cockpit  )

So, when does your Round The World in the Comanche start? Can I join you?!

I actually would
I have started a mini-one around the new World Update 14 East Europe cities. So far I have gone from Banja Luka > Sarajevo > Dubrovnik > Spilt > Ljubljana > Maribor.

Next I head to Budapest > Brno > Prague > Plzen. Longest leg so far was Split to Ljubljana, about 2 hours into quite a headwind and at max weight (refuelled + passengers and luggage, and a dog!) so was a bit slower travel than usual.

When I land, I jump in a helicopter or the Astro ONE to explore the city, then get back to the airport and do the next leg in the Commy. Awesome fun! I might just keep the chain going after Plzen and see where I end up!

Best (quality, interesting) PG City so far is Sarajevo! Split is good too (large area, but a bit less variety and lower quality a bit). Quality of their TIN data seems all over the place compared to the other recent WU’s.

Ljubljana is nice to explore also. Lot of little outlying villages with TIN, and there is modern parts plus the old town and a lot of variety.

This is my list for July with only one change: I replace the DHC-4 Caribou and happily introduce the A2A Comanche in my top ten. I am afraid, I did not use any other plane since it released this month. I had some problems to slow it down in approaches first (and landing still makes me nervous). But it flies great in any phase of flight. Not to speak about flight preparation. It is kinda like having a pet. If you pet the dog it would not bite you.

  • A2A Comanche
  • Antonov AN-2
  • Asobo Diamond DA62X with mrtommymxr improvement mod
  • C414
  • Cessna 152 with wbsim/jplogistics mod

Almost 4 months (including 1 without internet) have past since last update.
Not much has changed except for one addition
:

The DA-40 NGX with the mod obviously.

My old list missed a normal GA aircraft, and since i used to fly the Kodiak for my short trips i wasnt in any need of one.
But hey, my list is as diverse as it can be and a GA bird is a must.
Tried others as well, but this one just feels nice.
Even planning to have a flight in a real life one over the upcomming weeks. So i can have a bit of a reference with the sim.
Long story short, the DA40-NGX will replace the FBW-A320. I do this with pain in my heart because I know how dedicated the team behind it is and how much i have flown and enjoyed it in the early days of this sim. Unfortunately there is only 1 place for a A320 and thats reserved (for now) by the Fenix.
Things can and will change over time, but for now the FBW will only have a royal Honorable mention in my precious list.

  1. PMDG 737-700
  2. Gotfriends discus 2C
  3. HPG H145 (including action pack)
  4. PMDG DC6
  5. HPG Hot air balloon
  6. Fenix A320
  7. FI Spittfire,
  8. Simworks Studio Kodiak 100
  9. IFT MB339
  10. DA-40NGX including mod

I got the H125 on the Marketplace sale and ONLY because it was such a deep discount. I don’t regret the purchase per se, but I’m ■■■■■■ glad I didn’t pay full price!!

I now have the H125 and the 500E from Cowan and I would definitely rate them both (especially the 500E) as significantly below expectations. They have nothing on the HPG H145 or the Taog Alouette (two very different types of helicopters). The H145 has come a long way in the last month or two with respect to hands on controls, smoothness, stability in flight and flight model in general. The Alouette scratches the itch when I want to fly something older and less capable but more direct in terms of flight control inputs.

  1. A2A Comanche
  2. FlyingIron Spitfire
  3. MilWiz C310R
  4. Just Flight Arrows
  5. JPLogistics Cessna C152

Those are pretty much the only planes I currently fly, ranked by perceived fidelity and depth of simulation. The Comanche is really in a list of it’s own, though.

It most certainly is!

Interesting different opinions. What is so far below expectations to you exactly?

I flew the FI Bell 206, the Cowan 206 and the H125 back-to-back yesterday and rate them (for my own enjoyment) in reverse order to what I just wrote there.

Just that in the 125, it feels like what I would expect being able to fly a copter semi competently if I was a decent pilot (with my controls). So maybe it’s too easy lol. But with my controls, it makes me feel most like a pilot. Still have to concentrate and be careful, but it doesn’t get so out of whack (the FI responds too slow for me so I am usually penduluming
suppose I just need to tune into it more and prevent those things happening but it’s a struggle and requires too much focus when I am trying to explore a city).

I think there might be something wrong with my FI 206. I wrote about it in that thread yesterday - it doesn’t really want to climb. Needs almost full power just to lift-off, then you can’t really go over any hills without taking an age to gradually increase altitude at any speed. Means also you need full power to catch it if you start dropping altitude too fast - sometimes not possible. I am sure in the past lifting collective fully would endanger the engine (over-torque) but that doesn’t happen any more at full lift.

I also grabbed the H125 on sale, as my first Cowan Sim helicopter. I agree with you, if i had paid $30 for it I might have been a bit underwhelmed. At $18, it felt like a pretty reasonable price. It’s a nice helicopter, flies pretty well, but that’s about it. Not much complexity, some inop buttons like the autopilot, no GTN650 mod compatibility, some flight dynamics aren’t quite right (no doubt limited by Asobo helicopter physics).

Hey everyone,

here is my July list !

1. Black Square Analog Caravan 208: I loved the Asobo EX version, which I flew a lot during 2022, but the BS steam gauge version is a big step up and a joy to fly VOR to VOR with all its gauges and needles acting realistically. Considering its high capacity and ceiling, it’s a must-have when starting a career in FSEconomy or any other platform.

2. Black Square Beechcraft King Air 350: I guess it’s a nice transition to jets. It has a large capacity and range. I wasn’t used to the default B350, which I never really flew, but having this level of details is very engaging for learning an aircraft. It’s very nice to fly, and I love the ability to fly without the glass cockpit and rely only on some Collins and KNS80 instruments. The texturing gives the feeling of being in the middle of a photo !

3. WeptBurrito Cessna 172 enhancement mod: Like with the Black Square aircraft, having engine damages add so much to the immersion and requires flying by the book! also hat off for the eye candy detail added like engine & pitot cover, shocks and propeller blade braking template.

4. Cessna C414 by Flysimware: I really love all the meticulously modeled details and the overhaul work done on it. It’s one of the first high modeled aircraft and keep receiving update adding system depht

5. Blackbird DHC2 Beaver: retro look <3, I dislike its low speed.

6. Black Square Bonanza: I love its agility, allowing for long flights with tip tanks. Having those random failures is a very good point (with a rate of x4 or x8!) then it requires staying aware throughout the entire flight and learning how to manage them with many checklist including abnormal procedure, very nice touch from Black Square ! also it s EDM-800 tool is so helpfull for leaning process

7. C152 JPL by Weptburrito: (again) It’s a nice aircraft to learn the basics (and it’s free!!!) with a great flight model. Having various avionics setups makes it a much better aircraft than the stock one.

8.Scrapyard: Although fictional and hard to handle on the ground, it’s very fun to fly and fits well for aerobatics and flying at treetop level. This free aircraft obviously required a lot of work and received a lot of love from Lord Frites (its developer). It also comes with a float version for more adaptability and easier ground handling.

9. FBW A320NX: I’m starting to learn airliners and tried the stock one. While it’s nice to have many inoperative switches to avoid being distracted by minor features and focus on the essentials, it quickly becomes boring. Thanks to FlyByWire for allowing me to discover the airliner’s systems in depth! If I don’t get weary too early, I might consider investing in a Fenix model, although I’ve heard it has some FPS impact, can’t wait to see their A380 !!!

10. Black Square Baron: I m so sad to have to remove a BlackSquare aircraft, as stated last month it s very close to the bonanza and It allows faster travel but in my opinion, it’s still fresh and needs a bit more time to mature the flight model. and having a twin engine doesn’t allow me to enjoy it s full potential with my simple joystick

so my actual 10th aircraft is !!!
:drum:

10. Piper Comanche 250 by A2A : what a surprised ! :innocent: In my opinion, it could be ranked much higher than 10th place. I won’t go into detail about all the points that make it a great (probably the best?) GA aircraft. By now, everyone is aware of its features and how realistic it is, I guess. However, I haven’t had the chance to fly it as much as it deserves, and I am eagerly waiting for full compatibility with Simconnect apps so that I can fly it with my Career mods.

The H125 definitely needs more development. The Alouiette was absoutely awful the last time I tried it, it got deleted which isnt something I do often - theres been an update since do I need tio try it again, but expectations are low. The 500 has some MSFS problems, it has to be said, but this base heli fm is not in a great place. I can’t think of any MSFS helicopter in a really good state atm.
