Its hard lol. I broke my rule for the //42 Fox2 lol. At 4.99 it was well worth it, fun as hell to fly. But I wont be buying any more of the $30+ planes for a while, or until I know which ones are going to be abandoned between 2020 and 2024
Smart move. I came this close to buying the Just Flight 146 for XP11 ($70) because of promises of backwards compatibility being the top priority for Laminar Research. I really wanted to fly it in XP12.
It turns out that JF abandoned the 146 for X-Plane without ever bringing it over to XP12. Different companies I know, but unless it is a developer like MilTech who has publicly stated they will handle upgrades to 2024 for free, a bit of caution may prove wise at this point.
Yeah, I guarantee there will probably be a bunch of planes that need updates to have them work as intended and we all know how slow some devs can be, even reputable devs, at getting updates out. Especially if they are working on new planes.
Personally my plan is to wait it out a bit. Unlikely I’ll buy MSFS2024 right on release date. It may be something I grab in the new year unless most of my favourite planes are confirmed working before that.
Hahaha! It’s hard! Don’t feel bad. At $4.99 it seems like a ‘no brainer.’
I get paid tomorrow, and I’m afraid of the hit my checking account will take when I visit the Marketplace Sale. The KitFox is for sure on the list. I’ve been getting into bush planes more, and that looks like a good one.
I fell into this same trap. On the 2024 trailer they had a bush plane throw up dirt onto the body as it landed and I thought to myself, “wow, it would be crazy to buy a bush plane now, not knowing if the devs of that plane would implement that feature”. An hour later I’m flying around in the KitFox. Who can resist a $5 plane?
I’m glad I bought it. It’s not the absolute best add-on ever in terms of flight modelling and textures but I’ve already had a ton of fun in it. I like that it has modern avionics (to differentiate it from the Savage Cubs from GF and the 170B) and that it’s FADEC so I can fly on the couch with just a HOTAS X when I’m too lazy to set everything up. Definitely worth the $5.
What version number is the big update? Literally a minute after my last post I went into the marketplace and there was a huge update for the KitFox. It’s now 1.7.0 in the Marketplace and has the new G3X in it. If that’s the one that also comes with analog gauges I’d say your wait is over (I couldn’t find the analog version though, maybe it only applies to the complete package?)
I bought the full package on sale a couple of days ago. I’ll report here tonight if an analog version is included in the update, unless someone beats me to it.
I used to fly the kitfox a lot. Updated and joined Twotonemurphy’s flight last night and things just feel wrong. The entire plane jiggles and wobbles when sat idling at the airport, irrespective of weather. It’s really unpredictable and jittery on takeoff, bounces wildly on landing. At least compared to what I remember. And I used to think I could fly them quite well, landing on sandbars and such.
First time posting in this thread but I follow it religiously. So I thought I’d finally contribute to it. I only have 5 top Aircraft at the moment but that will grow as some of these new Aircraft being released are getting better and better!
My Top 5 are as follows…
Piper Comanche A2A - Bought this plane two days ago and I just cant get enough of it. This has got to be the best Aircraft in MSFS2020 so far and is an absolute joy to fly in VR! Such an in-depth aircraft. Love the fact you can do walk around checks. Far to many good things to mention! Its just a perfect Aircraft!
Milviz/Blackbird Cessna 310 - Been my go to twin for quite some time now. Great for longer flights typically more than an hour or in bad weather.
GOT Wilga 35/80 - A fantastic plane for bush flights. Keep going back to it although its spending more time in Hanger due to A2A’s Comanche being so good.
Asobo Cessna 152 (WB-Sim/JPL mod) - Still one of my favourites only because I’ve flown one in real life and every now and again I want to relive that experience lol
Asobo Zlin Savage Cub - Love the simplicity of the aircraft. Still find myself going back to it after all this time. Perfect for when you just want to fly low and slow and do some sightseeing.
Lots of neat features crammed in to such a simple aircraft
Engine damage, oil consumption and failures. Gear can snap on hard landings. Prop can snap on ground contact. Smoke effects (very well done) from engine.
Accurate hands-on starting procedure (can toggle that off if you prefer)
Interesting back-seat pilot position (it is a tandem twin seater) and model of passenger up from that leans with the aircraft and you can push her out of the way (with mouse) to see past her to see instruments or get a better view for landing
Flies slow, but very nice feel (has CFD etc).
Great visibility all around (even up) so good for sight seeing.
Excellent (really excellent) sounds
Custom basic radio nav (can toggle it off. In fact you can toggle a lot of exterior things on and off too and the liveries have dirty or clean versions)
Very cool vibrations on the engine and airframe (all adjustable ion the little tablet). Makes the thing feel alive and buzzing!
Can fly with the door open (it has a top window part that latches to the underwing and a bottom solid part that folds down, but if you don’t latch them they flap around in the wind and G-forces! Also the difference in sound when you open it is spot on
