Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Haha. Well yeah I thought it was a step too far when you bought that real Kodiak! I’m not a millionaire;)

Hey. Thanks for joining in!

I couldn’t figure out if you mean to include these 3 in your 10 or are you not actually counting those?

Replace the Discus with the Cessna 337 Skymaster!

  1. Skymaster
  2. Beechcraft King Air
  3. Guimbal heli

And go ahead and count 'em. Just haven’t really flown them enough to come up with a passionate writeup for any of them

That’s too high! Divide by 10 and you’ll find me down there

In real life, too!

Actually, I tend to travel at around 2500 ft or so…

Divide by 100 and you’ll find me sticking out of a tree

I like to fly around the 2000 ft area, great views and I don’t struggle as much to slow her down to land..

Yeah, I’ve got plenty of planes that have a hard time even making it up to 14000, hehe. In fact almost all of the planes I’m flying a lot.

But I can understand the appeal. Low down it’s about how uncannily real everything looks. Further up it’s about the feeling of being utterly removed from the surface and just soaring in/under/above the clouds.

Yeah man. Must admit that as much as it looks realistic and great from a reasonably low altitude (where you can’t see wonky buildings or pixelated ground), some of the most breathtaking moments I’ve had in the sim are when I have ventured up through the clouds to take a look or get out of the bad weather. I’ve caught myself saying “wow” out loud to myself on more than one occasion! Luckily no one else in the house or they might think I’m a bit of a nutter!

Good to do that from time to time even if you’re a low-leveller just to remind how stonkingly amazing the game is. As much as we all get annoyed by the little bugs and annoyances, it pales compared to the high points it can deliver!

Depends where the clouds are, really. If you’re up at 2-3000ft the view is great & you don’t notice the post-apocalyptic photogrammetry but you also can’t really get a grand view… 10-15,000ft gives a grand view without being so high that the world starts looking small. Alternatively, 50ft requires so much concentration that you don’t really notice the melting buildings

60,000ft and supersonic taking an overland route is an experience by itself. You want a small world, well…

Oddly I don’t really fly things that sit between 15,000 and 60,000 ft that often, explains why there’s only one airliner on my list.

Incidentally having fixed the FI Spit I’ll put it back in it’s spot on the list, just beware I do feel it’s bugged atm. The DC-6 AP doesn’t wander around anymore but it’s picked up another bug instead, so that can stay there. I’ve no idea what to replace to put the King Air in yet ( actually for now put it in the Beaver’s spot ).

I have a few more helicopters recently - unfortunately I still can’t recommend any! The Bell 47 does actually feel good & light helicoptery to fly, but the physical model is.. well, dated would be a little understatement I think. Cowan’s 500E should be good fun one day, but right now it does things it really shouldn’t do - like apparent dyssimmetry of lift into the forward blade side & uncorrectably turning, and GotFriend’s Mini500 feels pretty much like the Cabri. One day that one should be good too, but GotFriends may be trying to do too much at once right now.

The utility of being able to fly above 10,000 feet and not taking hours to get up there kind of depends on the altitude of the surrounding terrain and whether 10,000 feet will see you flying into it.

Good point

I won’t have a new list until after April due to buying a brand new Ford Explorer but I finally got the right credit card stuff to finally buy the MD 80

Congrats on the car (well, miniature freight truck!) purchase! Just the house to go then!

A Ford Explorer…why not a Tesla? I might not post a list until 2025 because I used my savings to buy addons instead of paying my taxes and I might be in Federal prison!:slightly_smiling_face:

As long as you got an internet connection and PC in the cell at least you might finally have time to get some flying done! I’ll send you my hand held PC hidden in a cake

I couldn’t do an electric car because I have to travel Between New York, North Carolina and Georgia a lot (due to family locations) so an electric car was not not really doable because the 8 hour recharge and I’d be stuck either in rural PA or Rural West Virginia for 8 hours either way if I did electric plus I know there’s going to be a hilarious future electric car battery shortage due to states going all in on electric stuff

Well now I might be looking forward to that! Can you make it a really big chocolate cake and put a Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo in there too.

I would at least have time to fly some of these great addons I’ve been collecting and come up with a top ten list every month. I did pick up the Wilga and BS King Air, just haven’t had time to fly them yet.

Plus still collecting components to put together my super computer.

Planes

  1. Kodiak: Still the best all around plane in the sim. It can go anywhere. And SWS did a brilliant job. My only complaint is price. It gets expensive when you add the Floatiak.

  2. Cessna 310: I don’t fly this much since I have switched mostly to Xbox. Still the most feature complete GA plane in the sim. Absolute brilliance.

  3. Cirrus Vision Jet: I just love this plane. I fly so many old, low and slow planes and this is just the opposite. The GA jet. I adore it as an almost completely automated change of pace.

  4. Tiger Moth: My favorite plane to hand fly. I will load it up expecting to fly for a few minutes and notice an hour has passed. More features than it has any right to have. Kudos for the built in autopilot. I love when old planes have that option hidden.

  5. Hellcat: My favorite warbird. It is more than just how it flys. It is the sound and looks. Everything about this bird feels right. It feels huge and mean. And you can see the dents made by the rivets.

  6. Wilga: New to my list so I don’t really know where it will settle. It would rank higher just based upon flight hours this last month. It is brilliant. And it is the opposite of the Vision Jet. You need to do everything hands on with this one. Got Friends really find the weird planes and bring them to life. Glorious sounding package. Such a weird radial engine. So many models. This is a great bird and it may climb in the rankings next list. But I must admit, I am not in love with this one, so I don’t see it taking those top spots. It is my favorite bush plane in sim… but the Kodiak and 310 have my love.

  7. FI Spitfire: Come on. It is the Flying Iron Spit. What else do I need to say?

  8. Bird Dog: Really great feeling plane. A joy to hand fly. Like the Wilga, it has a lot of charm. And while not as feature complete as the Wilga, it might feel better in my hands.

  9. Got Friends Optica: I love this bird more than most folks here and I pushed it down the list this month mainly because I haven’t flown it a lot. It is a beautiful, weird bird that frequently wants to kill me. I am so charmed by it.

  10. Big Radials Goose: Gotta keep my beloved Goose on this list. But I really need to fly it again. I think I didn’t fly it at all last month. Hence the 10 spot.

Yeah no problem! I’ll go even bigger and squeeze a widescreen monitor in! Probably they will get suspicious if I try and fit a motion rig in too, but I can send a second cake with accessories next month

Just hope the guards don’t start thinking it’s for sharing.
