Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Recent updates to the H145 are doing wonders for it - still a little way to go but it’s turning into a far more rounded thing to fly now. I’m a bit too apathetic to find my current top 10 tho

First time contributor to the Top Ten! An unapologetic jet-heavy and Asobo-heavy list:

PMDG 737-800 - going to be even more first-ish with the EFB next week!

FBW A320 - The PMDG got somewhat routine (NOT boring), so I recently decided to branch out and try Bus Driving. I’ll eventually get the Fenix, but I finally got comfortable enough to fly this on VATSIM.

Longitude - Speed and simplicity, with a wicked-fast climb rate.

CJ4 - Cut my FS2020 teeth on this jet, with multiple around-the-earth tours. I still go back to this plane frequently to see if I remember how to fly a jet without auto-throttle.

VisionJet - easy peasy, great vision, well done plane by FlightFX

Asobo TBM-930 - Another excellent G3000 plane. I do plan to get the BlackSquare TBM soon, and I’m sure it’ll make this list.

BlackSquare Caravan - Perfect for short VFR hops and Alaska tours, great visibility. Nice short field capability. Very easy to overspeed…done that way too many times.

BlackSquare King Air - nice and speedy, well modeled by BKSQ

Asobo 747-8I - Even though this comes with Standard, this has a premium-ish feel to me. Fulfills my superiority complex when I’m at a gate parked next to teeny tiny 737s and Airbuses.

Asobo 787 - Well automated, pretty straightforward to fly, no fuel pump intervention so nice for long overnight/unmonitored flights. Still has a bit of an artificial feel when hand flying/landing.

Honorable Mentions: FlightFX HondaJet, BlackSquare Bonanza and Baron

Another edit:

Please replace 1 - A2A Commanche with Gotfriends F4F.

Thank you

The remaining edited list stays the same and counts for this month as well.

List for October:

Just Flight - Turbo Arrow
FlightFX - VisionJet
SWS - Kodiak
Flying Iron - Spitfire Mk IXc
FS Reborn - Sting S4
Just Flight - Hawk T1
Carenado - V35
Flyboy Simulations - Rans S6S
Got Friends - Wilga
IndiaFoxtEcho - Leonardo M-346

No changes for me this month in terms of ranking. I did buy the Twin Beech because I’ve heard such good things about the Denarq mod, but I’ve yet to have a successful flight so need to spend some time with it to understand (and react to) the complexities of it.

I’ve spent the last month doing a tour of all the new airfields and POIs from WU XIV in the FI Spitfire and thoroughly enjoying it. Other outings have been in the Kodiak and Rans S6S doing the bushstrips again in Gran Canaria and my ongoing routine defence of the skies above north Wales, protecting the interests of the Welsh slate industry in the Hawk T1 (this has been successful, there have been no incursions and I’m happy to report that the mountain of slate around Blaenau Ffestiniog is still there).

For a complete change of pace, last night I started with the Arrows Across America addon. What a fantastic addition this is. Something I knew nothing about, lovingly brought to life by enthusiasts with excellent scenery additions and a really interesting manual. I’m doing the CAM5 route in the Wilga, no radio or GPS navigation, just low and slow. Highly recommended!

Love all this

Also want to get in to the arrows across America when I get some time and you’ve just given me the idea for the perfect plane to use

Thanks.

Although my flights are often nothing more than enjoying the aircraft and scenery, I do like to have a purpose to them at times as well. Another recent journey was in the JF Arrow to fly with radio navigation around the UK using the VOR add-on from Burning Blue.

You sim similar to me

Is that new from burning blue? There was a lot of discussion recently about lack of VORs in the sim particularly around using the F28 & 146.

Great if so.

XBOX list this month(well 6 months), more envelope favorites, not in any particular order

CJ4 (jet envelope) -The 172 of jets. Obviously not a complex model but still leaves you feeling like it still actually needs you to exist in the cockpit. Still pleasant enough to get somewhere you’d otherwise drone about in a 170kt GA executive and feel like you belong at a proper airport.

FSW C414 (‘grownup’ GA piston class) -New to me not even 10 hours in yet. Really gets you in that crack the knuckles ‘lets get dirty doing GA’ feeling. Feel like I need to yell out to creepy tablet girl to put it down and look out the window! With an 8yo daughter, I feel compelled to put that kid in the seat…

SWS Kodiak/Flotiak (anything sub 200KT GA/Bush/Utility/Floatplane/Glass cockpit prop GA/Single TP/light commercial/bad weather class)-Still my current GOAT

BBS BN2 (blue-collar commercial class) -Feel like I need to fly this with a British accent bobbing about talking too much about what’s outside your windows, since you have plenty of time to look. Apparently it’s too much for the copilot to bear. It’s like when your summer camp uses a regular school bus to get around.

TBM930 (Mr Fancypants at the municipal airport class) -Feel like I’m going ‘somewhere’ to take my mega dollar almost bizarre Italian speed yacht out when I get there. I kind of wish for a less ‘techie’ version of the avionics. But gets the job done for sure. If you’re really into a brand of expensive watches that nobody else has ever heard of, this is your plane.

DHC2 Beaver (get 'er done class) -creaky radials are fun with buttkickers

BR Goose (Zoot suit era class) -because eventually you’ll find the Golden Monkey

Caranado A35 (playing MSFS for 30+ years class) -Nameste

FI P38 (I’m Tom Cruise! but not that crazy class) -If you’re wealthy enough to own a warbird and want to live to tell about it, this is your bird. Stash some luggage and it’s also handy as a good fast airplane. Also I don’t feel compelled to take the yoke down for the stick…Also great for a cancel flight following and turn off the transponder moment or three.

Bell 407 (AND I OWN CS HELIS WTF!? class). For some reason, I just like this darn heli, even with the stupid half-life nuclear blaring glow of the instruments that have to be turned down EVERY time and the idiotic 100 clicks on the rotor brake. Once they figured out how to get it to go more than 100KT it hasn’t been that bad. Until they figure out force trim and some other issues, I keep ending up in this one. I prefer the liquid butter performance of XBSX MSFS with it too for landing on moving things.

Wow have a lot more favorites, and I almost put the WACO on this list(i know i know…). Still in the queue waiting for sales is the Wilga, SF50, and JF Arrows. Probably the GF Wildcat too. But this group I don’t have to ponder the choice for a non-shopping-short-on-spare-time MSFS session, I’m going downstairs to fly ‘THIS’ NOW.

Yeah, relatively new, I bought it in August and I think it had just come out then.

I think I’m going to have a go at NDB and ADF navigation in the Arrow soon, before they all disappear! It would be nice if some of the chat around historical datasets comes to something, I imagine there would be quite a good market if done right, like the way BB have modelled the existing VORs.

I’d quite like to do the naviagation using timing, reference points and so on and calculating the fuel. CGAviator did some good videos on that topic in the Hawk.

Ok so burning blue is current VORs? Historical would be good too.

Is it worth getting the Hawk for emulating the timing and navigation runs? As I probably wouldn’t use it for much else.

Yes, modern only for the BB VORs.

Re: the Hawk, I think there’s a few niggles with elements of it according to people more knowledgable than me, but barring my problems with trimming it, I really like it. I paid £23 for it in a sale and think that was an absolute bargain for what you get.

As for if it’s worth it for you just to use it for a limited purpose, why not? I think most of the aircraft I fly have their use case scenarios, so I suppose using a plane for one form of navigation only is no different to using an airliner, say.

Checking. Do you mean the Microsoft / iniBuilds one?

A bit unorthodox but I will let you have that one. After all, everyone seems to be flying it already (in the streams I follow at least)!! It does look rather phenomenal. Not really the kind of heli I like (too much built-in assistance) but the modelling looks really incredible.

Of course, I will get it! I just hope manual mode (which still isn’t really fully manual) is nice too

On the subject of helicopters, the G47 got an update. Anyone know what? (@JasonMuc2112 ??). I was hoping it was for the JetRanger ground transition when I saw update available in the Manager app!

October list:

  1. pmdg 737 (over fenix because of performance)
  2. fenix 320
  3. milviz 310
  4. bae 146
  5. blacksquare caravan 208
  6. kodiak
  7. wilga
  8. JF arrows
  9. c414
  10. Asobo 747

@Baracus250 Have not download the latest 47 update yet, but it seems to contain some small fixes:

  • Resolves issue with disappearing rotor disk on ground
  • Corrects MSFS transponder integration
  • Improves headset toggle tooltip
  • Livery titles now display properly in hangar

Also looking forward to the improved 206 ground physics.

And I read on the FI Discord that they are working on a small two-seater experimental piston helicopter. Love their flight models and will definitely get that one as well.

My October List in order:

Changes from last month: Replaced DoubleEnder and Sting S4 with Cessna 414 and Beech 18.

The Comanche continues to lead for me. The interactive walkaround, the way it handles, the cockpit and workflow, the tablet, and of course the amazing depth of simulation is unbeatable.

Most of my list is GA cruisers at this point. The Black Square King Air is a wonderful example, with tons to focus on in the cockpit and a lot to manage, while cruising high and fast.

The Cessna 310 is a real treat to operate too. Love the sounds and the peppy speed and handling. It’s also chock full of features, but I admit I miss the nature of the walkarounds from the Comanche (and Cessna 414, I’ll get to that). I’m making my way coast-to-coast across the US in this right now, just landed at Sedona (single engine after a bird strike! induced by myself, not the addon) heading west.

The Tiger Moth can’t get enough praise. The startup process alone is worth the price of this cheap addon, but the flight characteristics are really special too. Aerobatics are challenging and really fun.

The 737-600 is one of the best deals in the whole sim. Really detailed airliner for a really cheap price. Handles wonderfully. Looking forward to having a performance tool in the EFB soon.

The Black Square Bonanza, especially the turbo-normalized version, is a wonderful fast cruiser. Love the engine simulation on this one, plus the engine monitor display, making it fun to tweak the mixture and performance.

I love the Kodiak for its looks and sounds especially, but it’s a seriously versatile aircraft, capable of a decently fast speed, cargo hauling, and short dirt strips. Looking forward to the PC-12 from SWS.

The PC-6 from Blackbird is equal to the Kodiak for me. It’s not as fast, but has unique charm from being a taildragger and doing in-flight beta. The sounds are a real treat, too.

I just picked up the Cessna 414 in a sale and I do see why it’s so beloved. While lacking the detailed damage simulation of other addons on my list, I greatly appreciate the external walkaround cameras and interactivity of fuel caps, luggage doors, etc. The load page on the tablet is terrific too. Overall just a really solid addon with great capability. If it had failures and damage I think it would be top-tier for me.

Finally, the Denarq Beech 18 has got to be the crown jewel of enhancement mods. Carenado of course deserve credit for a great airplane with the flight model and looks/sounds, but Denarq takes it to an entirely different level with engine and oil simulation. This is one of the most gorgeous planes of all time and I’m glad it’s getting the treatment it deserves.
