Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Betty Rubble, really? I keep immediately seeing Wilma for weeks now. Betty FTW

Heh I keep seeing typing stutters. No there’s no good way to work BamBam Rubble in…

I’m running out of time on the sale is that Tailwind worth it?

Oh!! D’oh! I thought it was code for another aircraft.

In the context of the sim, it’s the Mitsubishi G4M, which I don’t think is available yet.

In the context of me gently ragging on you, Wilma was Fred’s wife, and Betty was Barney’s wife.

There was one for FSX .

I’m actually going to do a list for once after much lurking to decide what I might buy and a little mostly on topic commentary.

  1. A2A Comanche: This could really be 1-8 as it’s what I use 80% of the time. I can’t say I’m an actual pilot, but also I’ve taken some lessons and flown GA with two friends that are commercial pilots, including in a Comanche. It’s the real deal, forget the numbers nothing else feels like a real GA plane like it does. Beyond planes I’ve always been a machine guy. I’ve had a lot of interesting cars, but the ones I’ve loved the most were a 1989 Range Rover, 1986 BMW 325 and a 1992 Alfa Romeo 164, and somehow in a virtual game it gives me that same feeling of character that a ratty old Range Rover gave with all it’s quirks and flaws, but like it cost $50 and when it breaks it gets fixed for free.
  2. SWS Vans RV14 - Dunno why we don’t see this one more, it’s a solid model and it’s just a sweet plane. It’s the absolute best attainable for-fun plane out there for someone with a PPL, tell me what else is reasonably priced with a near 200kt cruise speed, can fit two full sized humans with baggage and full fuel with near 1000kt range with a <500ft takeoff and landing distance and aerobatic rating?
  3. GF Wilga: I like radials, I like STOL planes and I like weird planes, need I go on?
  4. Milviz PC6: We all know what the PC6 is and what it’s for, and the Milviz one isn’t perfect but it’s good, surprised it doesn’t come up more.
  5. SWS Kodiak: Mostly the Flotiak these days, I like both but just have other things to do the things the regular Kodiak does. Meanwhile the Flotiak actually has some of the least bad hydrodynamics. It actually sorta feels like boats do when it’s in the water at least.
  6. Cowan R22. Just got into helicopters this month. R22 isn’t the most recommended it seems but it’s where I wanted to start and the Cowan is solid. If you have it and don’t like it try knocking the sensitity back to literally like -70%, it’s way too twitchy. I’m having too much fun with it, I’m going to buy too many helis now, wonderful.
  7. FSW 414, every so often I like to go faster than 200kts

I have both the PC6 and whilst there is nothing particularly wrong with them they just do not seem to really catch my attention.

I am seriously hoping the FSG team survive the war and get their PC6 finished:

Ya me too, I’ve followed that thread some and that’s just rough where they are. That one looks way better for sure, but the PC6 is one of my all time favorite planes and the Milviz one scratches the itch, the stock one definitely doesn’t.

This U.K./Ireland WU has me flying low and slow a lot more this week!

Try the Vans if your wallet is feeling too heavy :smiling_face_with_horns:

It’s good at low and slow and STOL(more like Wilga than XCub distance), cruises pretty fast for its takeoff/landing distance and if the urge suddenly hits you to do a barrel roll or a loop it’ll happily oblige.

They make the kits at the airport I took my discovery flight out of, Aurora State. I’ve seen them out testing, even doing aerobatics once or twice, always meant to see if they’re cool with people dropping by the factory to check it out. Neat little sport touring planes.

Whilst the RV10 and 14 haven’t made it to my Top List yet, they are a usual go to.
Very excited for the RV8 to release!

If you’re on PC get the freeware Deejing RV4, one of the best FM representations of a sport aerobatic plane in the sim. Actually stalls the wing in a snap roll and trips the buzzer without loosing momentum. Most planes the FM ‘breaks’ and FS can’t figure out what to do next and just spirals into doom. Can actually tail-slide too and wobble and flop out of vertical stall maneuvers. Perfect tail dragger behavior

The RV7 is great too, no perpetual left roll the entire time you’re flying.

Haven’t taken either of my Vans up in months. It is time.

I forgot about the RV4! Deejing did a great job on that too!

Tonight will be a Vans night, after some Trimotor!

Can’t get over the big radial Goose. I wish I bought it ages ago. Sound is epic. Best to fly it with prop speed turned down and windows opened. Wow

I’ll wait before buying RV8. SWS is disappointing lately. When it changes I’ll go back to supporting them.

I counted days to PC12 release. Bought it first day. Yet it never made to my top 10 Hall if fame

I’ve been using the CH47D for my U.K. exploration. Radio autopilot lets it stay close to the ground but adjust for hills. So even when I go hands free I can hug the ground and see the scenery up close. Even had two UH1 Hueys fall into formation and follow me from London to Manchester the other night. That was awesome.

Their RV8 is no Kodiak, it is rather simple and not fully featured but it is priced right for what it is. Agree, the PC 12 is a disappointment. Good but not great, and not very deep at all.

The RV8 made my top ten once or twice a year or two ago.

I think I’d be stretched a bit thin with a top 10, so I’ll stick with a top 5:

  1. A2A Comanche. I doubt there’s anything I can say that hasn’t already been said about A2A and what their aircraft have done for flight simulation.

  2. Cowansim R22. I’ve never really been all that into Robinsons, but the R22 has very quickly become my favorite helicopter in the sim so far.

  3. Got Friends Mini-500. This is simply a blast to fly. I particularly love that it’s an ‘odd-ball’, yet totally grounded in reality (albeit a relatively short and unsuccessful one).

  4. FlightFX Vision Jet. I’m not much of a jet person and I absolutely loathe flying computers. But the Vision Jet has enough GA and hand-flying in it to be awesome.

  5. Got Friends Astro ONE. Another really fun odd-ball from Got Friends that’s actually completely based on a true story.

Heh can’t go wrong with GF. They are an island to themselves with being able to massage flight models beyond the simple data. You can pick any GF models serious or ridiculous and it’s always just, wow. If I developed the most perfect aircraft in the history of simming, I’d send it to them and tell them to fix it.
