Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

I do not. That would be an impossible task to track down every user that has posted before but not an update post. So I only hunt back if someone pipes up each month

Yes that makes sense. So I’ll repost my list manually. Definitely don’t want to be making even more work for you. :folded_hands:t3:

You are the only one afflicted by that illness. I took a long break after SU14 turned the sim into a slide show for me, and summer fun further delayed my return to the cockpit. I appreciate the extra real estate my desk has gained after removing my HC Alpha, and I now use a Bravo throttle and my old VKB (which I like more than the TM Warthog). I’ve been flying stick-only aircraft since my return.

I can’t provide a proper Top 10 list this month due to lack of hours, but I’ll include these two very deserving aircraft to my list.

Rans S6S/Flyboy Simulations - A very well done LSA. Simple to operate, flies beautifully, and if the planned updates work out, it should rival FSR’s Sting S4 for the sim’s top LSA in terms of features. From what I’ve read the engine sounds are from the stock sim, but whatever magic the devs did to the Coyote make it the only Rotax-powered aircraft that doesn’t put me to sleep. If I only have 30 minutes to fly, this is my go-to.

OV-10B/AzurPoly - Lots of ā€œfavoriteā€ superlatives for this one. My favorite aircraft in FSX has arrived. One of my all time favorite aircraft in the real world. My favorite pilot memoir, ā€œA Lonely Kind of War,ā€ is written by a guy who flew the Bronco in Vietnam. It’s not perfect, and I’m still trying to get the throttles to operate on the ground correctly, but once airborne, this is the most fun I’ve had in the sim. Sounds, graphics, ā€œfeeling of flight,ā€ etc. AzurPoly nailed them all. For me nothing beats low-level flying at 220 kts with the views this plane provides. It’s probably the first time I’ve flown more than 45 minutes without thinking about an autopilot. No German village or mountain canyon is safe.

I’ll be back in September with a complete ā€œstick-onlyā€ Top 10 if I can come up with 10 legitimate planes.

As promised.

  • ATR 600 Series [Microsoft / S&H Software]
    Love those props!
  • BAe 146 Series [Just Flight]
Full of personality, challenges and atmosphere
  • Embraer E-Jets Series [FlightSim Studio]
I have spent a lot of hours in these as a passenger and some hours in cockpit (not flying).
This is actually still my current fave. It is a great piece of work and will only get better,
  • FG-1D Corsair [Blackbird Simulations / MilViz]
Worth it just for the folding wings
  • Fokker F28 Fellowship Series [Just Flight]
Another stellar product from JF. I am torn between this and the BAe.
  • Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 [Flying Iron Simulations]
    Super challenging but great fun.
  • Piper Comanche 250 [A2A Simulations]
Well, you all know this one.
  • Bombardier Learjet 35A [FlySimWare]
    Early access goodness!
  • Shorts SD-3 Series [BlackBox Simulation]
A new one. A bit of a beast, very hard to slow down but an interesting fly and great fps.
  • Supermarine Spitfire L.F Mk IXc [Flying Iron Simulations]
Saving the best (alphabetically) until last.

Haha, yes. Sorry about that. As usual I forgot my ABCs (accuracy, brevity, clarity).

August list:

A2A Comanche
SWS Kodiak
BB BN2 Islander
Flyboy Simulations Rans S6S
SWS RV-10
SWS RV-14
Parallel 42 KitFox
COWS DA42
Carenado 170B
Carenado Archer II

My only change this month is the addition of the COWS DA42. I had been looking for a DA42 ever since the game launched but didn’t pull the trigger until this month because I was worried about the performance impact. It’s a lovely plane to fly, right up there with the best. When I first started flying it, I did notice my XBOX was doing more to improve performance (i.e. reducing LOD) compared to some planes, but the more I fly it the less I notice it. I also think I get better graphics with the TDI than the VI, but I have no way of knowing if one uses more RAM than the other so it might be all in my head.

I read several people saying that it was second only to the Comanche, and just like I didn’t believe them on the Comanche (I was so, so wrong about that), I didn’t believe them on this either. I think I’m so pessimistic by nature that I can’t even imagine that things can be as good as they are. I’m not sure how close this is to the Comanche, since the planes are so different, but the fact that real life differences in the planes are making the difference is a testament to what good simulations both of these are. It’s definitely behind the Comanche, but by how much is debatable and maybe not knowable (for example I think turbulence is done better in the DA42 than the Comanche). All I know is that when I want to just sit back and enjoy a nice easy cruise (without having to fiddle with props or mixture) this is a good plane for it. Definitely worth the purchase.

It has been a long time for me but here goes.

These are not in any way associated with which modules I feel as the best that the sim has to offer. They are just what I have been flying.

  1. Comanche
  2. AzurPoly C160
  3. Denarq mod Carenado Beech 18
  4. MilTech V-22
  5. COWS DA-42
  6. MilTech CH-47
  7. Taog UH-1
  8. IFT F-14 (Doing AAR now is so much fun)
  9. Wilga
  10. PMDG 737-600

On a last note, Baracus, I sure hope some of these developers ship you free modules for the massive amount of work you have put in to help us all decide what to buy. Maybe a nice Aerostar for you in the future lol!

Just letting you know, this is counted as 2 packages here (2 purchases) so means you still have 1 slot available if you want. I did count the 737 twice already for you.

That would be nice! But no, so far… (hint hint, wink wink devs! lol)

Ok thanks, please slot the FSR500 back in at 10. It is a fine model, just one I haven’t been flying currently.

A couple of changes for me this month…

  • Black Square Piston Duke - Absolutely love this aircraft! I like a mixture of analog with the GTN750 and a solid AP. I thought the lack of VS mode on the Autopilot would be a small mark down but the pitch attitude works really well. Once they add in the rain sounds on the canopy, I’m not sure I’ll be flying anything else for the foreseeable future.
  • Black Square Turbine Duke - Pretty much everything with the piston version. The quality is superb and the different engine type makes for a real change in operation in an otherwise familiar package.
  • Black Square Analaog Baron - I rarely touch the default aircraft but after the TBM850 from Black Square, I thought I would give this one a spin with it’s analog make over and really enjoying it. Simple yet plenty to keep an eye on and seems to fly and operate in a way I appreciate.
  • Black Square TBM850 - This has been one of my most flown this past couple of months. I love this regardless of hand flying or using autopilot. Latest really rounds this out.
  • A2A Comanche - So I finally succumbed, a long time after everyone else it seems! Great detail, engaging and fun to fly. Even when using the basic autopilot, you are kept busy monitoring everything and ensuring you are well trimmed.
  • Cows DA42. Was never a massive fan of how this one looks or even the glass cockpit but so many glowing reviews tempted me to check it out and i’m glad I did. Great aircraft to fly and the view from the cockpit is really good in VR.
  • Black Square Analaog Bonanza - Much the same as the Analog Baron, this has proved to be a pleasant surprise.
  • IndiaFoxtEcho Tornado. Love the Tornado and IFE have done a great job with this one. This is my current go to when I want a fast jet experience and this really gets the senses engaged.
  • Blackbird 310R - could easily have been the Carenado Seneca here but this one has a bit more to it, is very slick and a great all round twin.
  • Carenado PC-12 - Seems I’m one of the few that haven’t been cursed with progressive performance drop with this aircraft although that may be down to my bite sized approach to flying in the sim. Looks and flies really well for me and just seems a very well behaved aircraft that I enjoy. The presentation of gauges and screens are also really clear in VR.

Very true. But with SPAD I’m able to get very smooth and granular control by setting each ā€˜button press’ to equal 0.03 - 0.05 radians of the elevator trim range.

That is amazing. I have made purchases based on what others have said here. These votes carry a lot more weight to me than individual remarks. It is awesome to see the different aircraft average out and you can rest easy knowing that if something sticks around on people’s lists, it is going to be worth the money. Jokes aside, I am quite sure that your work has sold a lot of Comanche’s at this point. You have the best thread in the forum and the exchange of valuable insight here is priceless. I have no idea if anyone from A2A ever stops here but it would be really cool if they said ā€œThis one’s for you. Thanks for recording the Comanche at the top for so long and since you are going to be writing Aerostar so much, we figured you could have this on us.ā€

  1. J3 Cub by CAS (love the little thing! so fun to do small bush trips with it.
  2. F-86 Sabre by Shrike- carving canyons and low fast flight in the Alps
  3. Cessna 195 by Carenado
  4. Cessna 170b by Carenado
  5. P-38 Lightning by Flying Irons (Soooo dang fun!)
  6. Piper Commanche 250 by A2A (would be higher, but limited time = less time to pre-flight and I usually find one thing during a pre flight to keep me from just hopping in and flying it without doing the check, its just that good lol.)
    and
various others in my hanger, none of any length of time. Cessna 140, Beech 18 / 17, Tucan’s Tri-Motor etc.

I don’t see the FSW Learjet on many lists. It’s been out a while. Is it not well liked?
