October 2024 Top 10 List:
Not 1000% related, but at the end of the day this thread is about what planes are worth buying and I think this is relevant.
Started my first around the world trip and this is my steed. No GPS option enabled, we are doing only radio and chart navigation.
I love your list, going for icons here, not necessarily favorites no one wants to hear about a Piper Comanche or a 172 that aviators like.
For my list, you’re spot on except delete 707 for 747 cmon that is the ultimate icon.
Delete F4 for F14. Thank Top Gun but fact is it’s more iconic. My favorite ski brand started putting airplanes on their freestyle skis… and well I had to buy them. I mean c’mon it’s the most iconic plane there is even if it’s a movie we have to thank.
Edit: this year is a C47, last year they started with aircraft on the freestyle skis which kind of makes sense. But F14 was the first choice and they’re a small niche ski maker, not pilots.
You know @Baracus250 if you don’t start an IRL Icons thread it’s going to get increasingly confusing in here as to whether the posted lists are for sim addons or real life icons… 
Maybe we should just have some sort of ‘virtual planes we like, real planes we like and general tangentially related chatter’ thread
If I do it I will do it as a poll so votes are auto counted. In which case I’ll need a pretty definitive list of likely options first. I’ll take all those mentioned already but no doubt there should be more added. Will try and knock something up later

Something like this then? We will have to have 2 separate lists as can only have 25 choices in each poll (I think… or 30, either way there are too many to put together).
In alphabetical order:
I would allow 5 votes per category.
Obviously some are fit for both categories but I put them in the MAIN one for that vehicle (e.g. Huey = Military, not Bell 205. DC-3 = Commercial, not the Military one)

Icons? Personally, the Vulcan, U2 & TSR2 would be ahead of at least 3 of your selections

Yeah good point on the ones you mention… argh there are too many! I have asked if we can raise the 20 limit just for this thing…
An interesting one to give some thought to, as to whether it is iconic or not, would be the Bleriot.
Don’t envy you trying to get that list down to 20.
….maybe have an A list and a B list, then you can have 40
Narrowing it down the Vulcan & B2 were ground breaking as flying wings & stealth technology, and the Harrier for vertical takeoff and landing so I would definitely call those icons.
U2 and TSR2 I would sneak in if you had space.
But it’s always going to be subjective doing these lists, unless you just list the main ones and a further option for “other” where perhaps we can just list our own or something.

I thought the all time list of first party aircraft 20/24 would be a lot of work.
Yea this topic (if that’s what you meant) is a lot of work (time-wise) but fun!
That is why I want to do this Icons thing as a Poll, so it will just sort of run itself
