Well being I can’t quite make a list of 10 fully functioning 2024 aircraft yet looks like I’ll still be getting some more 2020 lists in.
I’m actually holding off on my December list to wait for the fs2024 marketplace to be available
I’ve un-installed MSFS 2020.
So, I am currently a ferry pilot flying mostly 172s criss-crossing Florida in MSFS 2024. None, of my other choices to-date tickle my fancy…
And that’s with ME, IR and HP and taildragger and jet completed.
December will really be slim this time around…
The release of 2024 messed me up pretty good lol. Tons of new planes to try, some I have no desire to try (tubeliners) and getting things setup the way I had them in 2020 control wise.
Right now I have been testing my 2020 planes (most have some issues here and there) but quite a few are great. Kind of hard to do my normal planned long flights when the EFB is completely unusable in VR, and I cannot get my flight plans to show up on the Garmin (even after pushing them to the avionics in the EFB before starting the flight) So my time is doing random small bush flights and pattern work.
Dreaming of the day I can hop back in the staggerwing or twin beech again, but man they are just plain missing from my library. No sign of them anywhere
Right now.
- Comanche 250
- Cessna Corvalis (I really like this one more than I thought I would)
- Zlin Norden
- Robinson R66
100%.
There’s some hits and some misses but there’s plenty to explore for now from the stock planes. I’ve especially been enjoying the Draco and the Albatross. I kept 2020 installed for now, which I think is the way to go. 2020 for airliners and stuff, 24 for ga scenery and new stock planes. For the record in my experience so far Black Square Duke and A2A Comanche work just fine in 24.
Literally now only keeping 2020 installed for PMDG & fsltl
Haha pretty much same. Besides the issues everyone had the first couple days 24’s worked pretty well for me. Haven’t even tried my 736 because if PMDG says it doesn’t work I believe them, and haven’t tried the DC6 and my JustFlight airliners there yet although I hear they should work fine.
Flight dynamics and detail level are so, so much better. First few days with 24 I just flew around in the steam gauge 172 and found it way more satisfying than the 2020 172.
I’m still on 2020 more than I am 24. I’ve mostly dabbled in career mode but 20 is just running so good, all my add ons work as expected.
However!!! There are some nice gems in the 24 hangar and I’ll look forward to flying them when the time is right.
Decembers list is going to look a bit different when I post it. I’ve been having too much fun in stuff out of my norm lately!
That’s why un-installed 2020 on day 2, I couldn’t go back to the old flight model!
I figured I would slog through the bugs like I did for 2020 at the start.
Hi. Am I to delete the following from your last vote?
- J3 Cub by CAS.
- F-86 Sabre by Shrike
- Cessna 195 by Carenado
- Cessna 170b by Carenado
- P-38 Lightning by Flying Iron
My contribution
1- Fenix A320 : in depth and functional system, detailed and well textured cockpit, impossible to get back to FBW or Asobo versions, very few updates because bugs are so rare for such a plane, amazing product, worth any penny. My goto plane.
2- SWS Vans RV14 : just a fun plane, simple to master, great visibility for VFR, forgiving behavior, my favorite for VFR VR flight.
3- Cessna C414 Chancellor : the cockpit, the steam&gauge feeling of the cockpit and god, the sounds ! I tried other twin prop (C310R), but when I click Fly, it’s in the Chancellor. Didn’t try the Duke yet.
4- Asobo ATR42/ATR72 : yes, I like them, for IRL reason but also because they were the less disappointing planes amongst the default planes. Systems are good, very good looking, nice sounds. A little buggy but better with time.
5- Aerosoft DHC6 Twin Otter : yeah I know… but the plane is so gorgeous, and with the sound improvement mode, it’s a little boy’s dream ! Systems implementation are quite “meh”, I agree. But so iconic … Hating Aerosoft for what they did though… or better, what they didn’t do…
6- SWS Kodiak 100 : I like it better than the C208, a matter of taste and system depth I guess.
7- A2A Piper Comanche 250 : arguably the most detailed GA plane in the place. If I want to fly very serious, learning things for my hypothetical real PPL, that’s the one I fly. Not higher in the list because I usually fly serious, not very serious.
8- Asobo C700 Longitude : When I want a bizjet, it’s the one since day one, when it was “meh”. Largely improved now so still in the race !
Honorable mention to FBW A320&A380, they did an amazing job on their plane with passion and commitment. I don’t fly the A320 anymore (cause Fenix), and did’t fly the A380 yet, but I’m sure it will be mentionned in a later contribution !
Back actually flying aircraft instead of trawling the forums Thank you Ant’s Tiger Moth.
-
Ant’s Aircraft – Tiger Moth I’m really enjoying doing a tour of Britain looking at Points of Interest. Doing it with live weather, meaning there can be several days between flights while I wait for the right condition. My most flown aircraft over the last month.
-
Black Box – BN-2 Islander It has minor faults but nothing that gets in the way of flying this iconic aircraft. Lovely to do long flights with the autopilot.
-
Aeroplane Heaven – DC-3, with Duckwork’s Mod I’m back with this iconic bird after sorting out the auto-pilot which was not working with the Duckwork’s Mod. Respect for the fact the vanilla DC-3 now has the Sperry Gyro-Pilot working as it should, rather than trying to mimic a modern autopilot.
-
Azurpoly – C-160 Transall I want an all weather plane and this is my current option, not that I have done much all weather flying in it but I am back learning how to Cold and Dark start it.
-
Flying Iron – Spitfire Mk IX The first time I have flown a simulated Spitfire and felt it lived up to the reputation of the Spitfire. The fact it is a Mk 9 and the one I made AirFix models of is a nice bonus.
-
Asobo – DA-62 One of the few standard aircraft I enjoy flying. This is back in my list after upgrading to a 4K monitor, which makes reading the glass cockpit a lot easier.
-
Heavenly Design & Giba – Maul MX-7-180 In many ways this is a flawed aircraft but it gives me the feeling of flying a bush plane even if the flight model not accurate. None of the issues really gets in the way of flying the Maul.
-
Asobo – Cessna 152 Vanilla, still to get into the JPL mod. This is still a great little aircraft to learn your flying in. It wins over the 172 by having steam gauges and I can trim this where as I can’t trim the 172.
I’m still just on FS20. Is there any plan to go to FS24 only? I hope not sPK
A December top 10 from MSFS 2020 with just two changes, a rant and some praise for Just Flight’s Avro RJ which is a fantastically good aircraft.
Edited as something weird happened with formatting.
I can’t see me making the transfer to MDFS2024 as it is obviously (based on forum feedback) very broken on Xbox. And I can’t afford the high end gaming rigs that others have..so I’m staying put. I think it may be for a very long time.
The majority of the aircraft developers in my list show that it is possible to release higher quality, fully functional products for Xbox users - with a bit of effort and testing. MS/Asobo - although one of their CMs tells us that Jorg has an Xbox - clearly don’t. If I have one suggestion for that CM and Jorg, it would be to unwrap a COTS Xbox -I suspect they’d have to go out and buy one - and play MSFS 2020 and then MSFS 2024 on it for just a day or so. They’d learn an awful lot, just with the stock ‘planes.
- Black Square Piston Duke - no change
- Black Square Turbine Duke - no change
- Black Square TBM 850 - no change
- A2A Comanche - no change
- Black Box BN Trislander, normally it’s ‘Joey’ - no change
- Just Fight F28 Professional.
- Just Flight Avro RJ Professional. (Changed from the Just Flight 146 Professional) Just Flight knock it out of the park with the Avro RJ. Tons of detail, and the “modern”version of the 146 is brought to life. As usual Just Flight provide several variants of the RJ and a good selection of immaculate liveries to fly. The flight deck is totally transformed with more modern instrumentation, modern FMS and autopilot - theres even a very capable auto throttle which relieves the high workload of the 146 somewhat. It’s beautifully done with an improved feel to the flight model and top notch sounds. Highly immersive and satisfying passenger jet to fly. But it’s also virtually a new aircraft compared to the 146. I will still go back to the 146 Professional with the beautifully modelled UNS-1 FMS and higher workload a lot just to feel its high workload. A very investment whilst ( to be honest I think it’s now an “if” ) FS2024 settles down. I’m addicted to the mournful sighing of the first stage of flaps transitions.
- FSW Lear 35 - no change. The freighter add on (just released) looks like good value and I’m looking forward to the UNS-1 add on being released. An absolute joy to fly this early rocket ship
- Milviz Cessna C310 - changed from Blackbox Birddog. I keep going back to the 310 as it’s still a standout in a crowded landscape. Good landings need some finesse ( chop that power back too much and it’ll be another slam dunk) but it’s crept back in as one of my VFR go-to’s. The turbo porter is my taildragger of choice just now.
- PC-6 Turbo Porter- no change. For the feeling of flight, this aircraft delivers brilliantly…Great for Low and slow and STOL challenges..
At the moment it is my favorite VFR bird, too!
FYI, I personally think it is even better in FS2024! Great sounds, great visibility and overall it just provides a wonderful, highly distinctive and satisfyingly predictable (no surprises) flying experience.
It’s working fine on Xbox Series X in my experience. 3rd party planes are hit or miss but the core sim is working well for me.
I knew I’d get 24 sooner or later so I just jumped on it, I’ve just been using both for now mostly dependent on what I want to do or if I want to fly a plane that isn’t working well in 2024.
What’s been keeping me coming back to 24 more than 20 now that it’s pretty stable and functional for me is the massively improved water dynamics and ability to spawn aywhere on the ground(so… water anywhere you want in a float or amphib). I love float ops and found them just so disappointing in 2020. Anyone whose ever driven a motorboat could tell just how wrong all of the water motion felt, way better in 24. Combined with the fact that the Albatross that comes with Deluxe is a real winner I’ve been doing all those water ops I just didn’t find convincing enough to be fun in 2020. The Albatross would actually be at the top of my combined list rn.
I need to do my list soon, but 100% agree on the JF Avro RJ…fantastic plane, probably my #1 at the moment.
I’ve been following this thread for years and am finally making my first list. In no particular order because, it changes with the mood.
- FSW Lear 35A (Cruising at FL450/478GS PDX-LAS as I type). Great performance, great model…A dream to fly. Scored it on Black Friday. Love it!
- SWS PC12. My go-to turboprop. Once you get a feel for her, she’s a blast to fly. Remote strips to major airports..It does it all. Recently finished a RTW series with it. It’s a shame it’s not prominent on this thread. Underrated.
- PMDG 77W and 77L (Freighter). Easy to set-up and fly GIANT airliner.
- PMDG 737 series. Great systems depth. A little more involved to fly than the 777.
- FSW C414A. What hasn’t been said about this plane? Good stuff. I don’t fly it as much, because I like faster planes but, I love the detail.
- Asobo TBM 930. One of the best stock planes in the sim. If I want a little more speed, the 930 is my pick.
- Carenado 182RG. My slower GA pick.
The top 4 are really my favorites at this point.
One plane that I don’t like as much as everyone else…
Visionjet. Quite plain in term of systems depth. As far as performance goes, why not save the money and just fly the TBM? At the same price point, the SWS PC12 blows it out of the water as a complete package IMHO.
I love your post apart from the vision jet bit lol
The longer I have that aircraft, the more it creeps up the charts for me (2020 version). With the noise cancelling headphones there’s just this feeling of serenity that I’ve never got in any other aircraft.
Although the systems can appear straight forward from the outside the type rating is a 2 week course, the POH is 624 pages.
If you make a commitment to go through some of this I’m sure you will get a lot more enjoyment from it.
A minor reshuffle for December. A top 12 would look about the same, the bottom few rotate in and out from month to month. No escaping these for me, they are the best I own AND fly.
737-800
737-700
777-300ER
C414AW
B60 Grand/Duke
35A LearJet
B60 Turbine Duke
Velocity XL
C310R
G2 VisionJet FlightFX
Happy Holidays Ahead!
I am also sticking with FS2020 for the time being, reflected in the list below. No particular order.
-JustFlight Avro RJ Professional - Makes other more automated airliners flat-out boring! And I guess the 146, which I haven’t purchased (yet?), makes this plane boring.
-PMDG 737-800
-Inibuilds A300-600 - love the retro feel.
-A2A Comanche - Been on a tubeliner kick so haven’t flown this much, but it’s gotta be here.
-BKSQ Piston Duke
-Fenix A320 (or A3xx if we’re mixing them)
-BKSQ TBM850
-FSW 414
-Mizviz/Blackbird 310
-PMDG 777F
