FBW A320 gets my vote, for both the scale of the efforts they have put in, through many Sim Updates moving the goalposts, and the results which they’ve achieved.

You need to include the DA62X performance mod by MRTommyMXR! I keep coming back to this plane time after time because it’s super easy to fly and the performance mod makes it so much better.

Thinking about it, not sure the Beech Model 18 can be allowed. It’s not free as it’s based on a Local Legend (or was it a Famous Flyer)… either way it’s not freely accessible like the others.
Ah … What a shame. It’s a great mod and the guy is a worthy contender.
So … my choice now is the JPL/WB Sim mod for the Cessna 152. Also very good and arguably of payware quality

It’s not free though is it? And even if it was, it’s only for the premium version of the game so not what I would consider a free base aircraft.

Like others above, the FBW A320 must be #1 on my list. It is amazing it is freeware. It is truly a much-appreciated donation of time and talent to the MSFS community, especially given the complexity of the add-on.
The C152 and G-36 Bonanza are runner’s-up and I fly those more, but they are much less complex (and “only” mods) than the complete FBW A320 project. I very much look forward to the day when I feel more comfortable flying the FBW A320 and other airliners.
