Description of the issue
The TO/LDG mode is not implemented correctly.
Expected behavior (real aircraft)
The TO/LDG mode is required for all normal takeoffs and landings in the Zeppelin NT.
It is activated by moving the aft swivel lever to an angle between 30° and 90° (normally 90°). It can also be engaged using the guarded TO/LDG Override switch on the pedestal.
When TO/LDG mode is active:
- The aft engine thrust lever becomes inactive.
- The pilot’s control stick controls the aft vertical propeller pitch and the aft lateral propeller pitch, providing direct pitch and yaw control at low airspeeds when the aerodynamic control surfaces are ineffective.
When TO/LDG mode is not active:
- The aft vertical propeller pitch is controlled by the aft engine thrust lever.
- The aft lateral propeller continues to rotate, but its blade pitch is fixed at 0°, producing no thrust.
TO/LDG mode is essential for realistic Zeppelin NT operation. Performing a landing without it is considered an abnormal procedure in real operations and requires dedicated checklists and special ground crew procedures for landing and mast operations.
Current behavior in the simulator
The simulator does not appear to implement TO/LDG mode correctly.
- The aft lateral propeller is always controlled by the pilot’s control stick, regardless of TO/LDG mode.
- The aft vertical propeller is never controlled by the control stick.
- There appears to be no functional activation or deactivation of TO/LDG mode using either the aft swivel lever or the override switch.
