As Terrain LoD increases, VRAM increases.

Vram usage goes up because that’s where scenery gets loaded. Higher LOD = more scenery.
Yea. I never could see this since my GTX 1660 TI only had 6 GB.

Nice upgrade, once all has settled let us know what you think.
If you join the beta there’s a little more leeway for mainthread limited so I now suggest calibrating 500-1000ft above difficult scenery and try to match mainthread and gpu render times. On the ground you will lose a few fps but it should stay smooth.
This is really nothing new since SU5. You can actually max out the VRAM on a 3090 by setting the LOD at 6 in certain dense areas.
I actually posted about this a while back:
Like others here, I updated my sim yesterday to the latest world update. I wanted to test the sensitivity of the new “offscreen caching” option added in response to the last Sim Update. I cranked up the terrain and object LOD to 9 in the UserCfg, set the new “offscreen caching” option to Ultra, and this is the result: 22.5 GB of total VRAM usage sitting on the runway at KLAX. Interestingly enough, once airborne, VRAM usage dropped down to a more “reasonable” level of ~15 GB of usage.

I’ve noticed that the Windows Display Manager VRAM size is about 1/3 the size of MSFS VRAM which is significant. I don’t know why it would be using so much. There should be some way to configure it or limit it.
