I will vote a little bit later, with a few more tests. But Right now, and having flown from LFPG, to LFPO, with the Fenix, I can say that I never had such performance.
If on the next tests it is as good as tonight, it will be a “great” for me, and… A very very good SU3 !
Performance is good if downloading airports and aircraft as streaming still seems to be a bottleneck for me. Will be switching to FTTP soon so maybe that will help. Map textures are somewhat “grainy” or “fuzzy” but might be due to limits of my GPU (3090).
Cannot start game after update to this version. Constant CTD at between 7 and 10 seconds. Nothing recorded in the event log. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the game, gaming services and updated everything. System is a brand new TUF Gaming rig with a 9800X3D with 64GB of RAM and a RTX5090. MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 SU2 run perfectly. My significant other keeps looking at me like I’m an imbecile wasting so much time on this.
I flew a completely impromptu, no flight plan havin’, flight from KLAX (IniBuilds) to KSMF (autogen) in the DC-6.
Usual settings of 4K native, TAA, FSR3 FG, dynamic off, ultra without ground and air traffic.
Looking around the cockpit at KLAX when configuring the aircraft, I saw some stutters as each viewpoint would load. This remained pretty consistent if I looked out the window.
Taxi and take off were smooth and solid.
Airborne, I made a ~180° turn and flew over Santa Monica. I turned north towards “the valley” and I was surprised to see small building structures and other ground detail objects popping in within a very small radius from my aircraft while climbing through 4000-5000’. I don’t recall seeing that before, but I’m not often gazing out the window during this phase of flight. It was disappointing to see this.
Cruise through central CA was uneventful and performance remained as expected. The sim looked quite lovely in the late afternoon/early evening lighting.
Landing at KSMF, I did not experience any stutters, which came as a surprise. Perhaps the Sacramento, CA area and the autogen airport with no traffic were the reason for this? I don’t think photogrammetry exists there, but I’m unsure.
Perhaps it is time I gave traffic a try, again. I’ve just been so reluctant to use it since it was a horrific eater of FPS in previous builds. KSMF was sure boring with no aircraft around.
Other than KLAX FPS stumbles/stutters (is it IniBuilds’ issue to fix??) and the object pop-in that I noted on climb, I’d say the performance was excellent.
My first impression with Win11 Steam; 5800X3D; 7900XTX; 32GB 3200 in 4K:
Performance overall seems to have improved, also on airports.
But my “extreme test” of EGLL with today rainy weather is a mixed bag:
Flying around the airport with the Albatross, there is mostly good smooth performance.
Then in between it turns into a microstutter-fest, just to recover shortly after.
While doing that it is pulling 19.6GB RAM and 22.1GB of VRAM (wow! )
So the microstutters could come from swapping stuff when VRAM is hitting the limit.
EDIT: no it’s not the full VRAM causing the stutterfest. I reduced precaching from Ultra to High (VRAM down to 18GB), but still heavy stuttering at EGLL
For me this update has worse performance than the last. In the previous build I was easily getting over 100 fps and everything was in green unless I was flying in very heavy areas. Now I am struggling to get over 60 fps at snap basically empty airports
VRAM usage is probably the most alarming performance issue that directly affects FPS and stutters, there are now 3018 comments who talked about the vram issue in here
Well, I see that performance is very irregular, but for me (insisting it is just for me and the 3 airliners flight i did with .19) it has been the best flights i had… Still progress to do upon landing in term of FPS, but I feel it is going the right way…
So as I predicted in my first post, it will be a “Good” but a low good, because I’m expecting more consistency on performance ! (I’m under stress at each approach because of frame rate ! )
To be honest, sometimes my brain doesn’t even realize the stutters in FS2024 anymore as they are so common. This of course makes it more difficult to judge improvements…
Pretty crazy the overall state, no one would ever accept this another game. But as we are here without a real alternative…
Once again I voted good. The sim runs great as long as I limit my FPS using Vsync. However, my FPS using Nvidia FG has regressed by apx. 15% compared to SU1 with all the settings the same.
On another note, when I started the sim today, I experienced a stutter about every 5 seconds even limiting my FPS. Restarting the sim resolved it.
