1.6.7.0 - Actual FPS Is Less Than Set Max Frame Rate

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When setting max frame rate in MSFS settings, the resultant FPS is 1 FPS less than what was set, despite my system being capable of much higher when unlocked. This is new with 1.6.7.0. Now, to have a 40 FPS lock I need to set MSFS max frame rate to 41 FPS.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Turn on FPS view in Dev Mode

  2. Set Max Frame Rate to anything easily achievable by your system

  3. Observe actual frame rate is 1 FPS less.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? Yes, to see the FPS view, but it does the same without it and using another FPS monitoring tool

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? 4090

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

I have noticed this, but it pre-dates the .7 build - I’ve been seeing it in the .3 & .5 builds too.

I didn’t see it in 1.6.5.0 yesterday, where I took the following screenshot when max frame rate was set to 40:

When I looked at it today, after updating to 1.6.7.0, it was reading 39 so I investigated further.

In any case, it is not the end of the world as I can just set my max frame rate in MSFS to 1 FPS higher than what I actually want, but it does stir my OCD!

Is there any advantages to setting a max frame rate?

I set one for VR as motion reprojection works best when the FPS is locked this way at half the desired in-headset FPS, especially when using dynamic setttings.

It can also be used in 2D to not have your system run at max effort all the time and generally results in more consistent smoothness.

Yep, it was game changer for me, if you don’t set a limit your game will always try to have the maximum of FPS and your CPU or GPU or both (depending of your specs) will always be running 100%, in some case that’s can cause slutters or just FPS drop if you move your camera, at big handmade airports, with certain aircraft etc.. Setting a limit will decrease the CPU/GPU load and let the game engine breathe.

But SU4 improved a lot the overall performance, so some things in this topic can now be outdated, SU3 was a FPS killer.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Frame rate target can no longer be reached
60fps max fps (30 raw capped in game plus 2xFG DLSS) 60hz monitor setting.
I now only get 58/59 with lower 1% lows
At the main menu I should get the usual solid 30fps raw, but it’s sitting at 28/29.

This is new with 1.6.7.0 For me.

If I set the raw frame rate to 31, I get 30. If I set the cap to 32 I get 31 . So there’s something a little off here , hardware is capable of generating the frames.

Every time.

Start game with game frames capped at 30 plus 2xFG DLSS .

This thread should prob be moved to the performance issues *

Here I get 27 fps when marked as 30 fps, really a bug! Now I have to set it to 34 fps to be able to use a stable 60 fps with FG

Seems like the coded logic for “max frame rate” ended up as “less than” instead of “less than or equal to” ?

Never been an issue before , and force capping frames and using FG shouldn’t matter what your refresh is it’ll generate the frames.
It’s unfortunately a bug with the frame system in the game (the frame cap code or something)
I can set my monitor to 100hz and I get the exact same results.
Also I think it’s rare for monitors to put out the exact Hz , they’re always .xx off by design for legacy refresh . Some do true refresh but a lot don’t.

From this problem statement it is clear that this serious program can be used by anyone.

I’m experiencing the same issue.

That was the first thing I noticed yesterday. My first thought was of course, ‘Great, they’ve messed up the performance again’ but it’s definitely only since the latest build (sorry for the mediocre pictures)

New beta 1.6.7.0: (Limit 58/50/no Limit)

1.6.5.0 (Limit 50)

In VR the bug is even more prominent. In game cap at 30FPS gives me a steady 22 FPS. Adjusting it to 35 gives 30 in game again. Anyone else?

Yes, I see this too with limit set to 36 I get about 32. However, it also looks like setting a limit in 2D sets the same limit in VR with both either on or off. In addition to this even if the limit is turned off in both, I still seem to be getting a capped rate. I am using a Pimax Crystal Super set to 72 Hz so am targeting 36Hz which I do get but if I press esc to change something in the settings and then return to VR, I get about 50 to 60 for 5 to 10 secs and then it steadily reduces down to 36 again. It seems there is something forcing the limit even if not set. Nothing is set in Nvidia driver. Has anyone also seen this effect?

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

When setting a Max Frame Rate in the in-sim Graphics settings, the resultant FPS is significantly less that what should be produced.

Example: My PC with no Max Frame Rate set is, say, producing 85 FPS (FSR3 enabled) without the Max Frame Rate set. If I now set Max Frame Rate to 40 in order to set a cap of 80 with FG, the resultant FPS is 65 FPS, not 80. This is a change from the previous SU4 Beta builds.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every Time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Turn on FSR3 Frame Generation
  1. Open FPS window, allow sim to stabilize and note approximate maximum FPS
  1. Set Max Frame Rate that would allow for a lower maximum FPS. (For example, if you see 100 FPS uncapped, set Max Frame Rate to 40 for a max of 80 with Frame Generation)
  1. Note capped FPS is significantly lower than what it should be capable of.

With Max Frame Rate set to 40:

Frustrating. And similar to this thread. Hoping issue gets noticed.

Never mind, looks like they merged the threads.

FPS limiter completely broken for me. Not just 1 FPS but 9 FPS below set FPS. and totally ranndom. If I set 60 I get 52 FPS, If I set 72 I get 72 FPS. If I set 40 I get 31 FPS.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.
