Brief description of the issue:

Huge Mainthread / Manipulator spikes on final. froze the game for at least 1 sec before resuming.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Any flight longer than 1 hour. This was from CYYC to KBOI. I had good fps throughout the flight. It always 5NM from any airport, you will get a huge spike where the mainthread is overloaded trying to load all the airport object and it freezes the sim. After it resume, I lost about 10fps until I landed

PC specs and peripheral set up:

5800X3D, 3080Ti, 32GB RAM

Yes i think they still have the issue where it will load/unload objects when you panning

i had a freeze in flight - just after take off and it stuck for about 15/20 seconds maybe. I thought it was going to crash. Then it just carried on. May or may not be the same thing, but adding my comment…

17-02-24 : update, have had several flights now and have had three significant freezes in flight. The game stops for about 10 to 20 seonds, The sound carries on. Looking at system monitor - ecerything appears to have stopped,no spikes.

26-02-24 flight today and had about 20/30 second freeze. Sound carried on. Then just carried on.

04-04-24 - still get the occasional complete freeze for 15 to 20 seconds. As above.

The ā€˜silver lining’ in that particular cloud is that freezes, long stutters etc made me spend time optimising my CPU, GPU loads, framerates and so on.
But even with a sim now running really really well I still get anything from a stutter to a slide show usually on approach to an airport but smetimes just at some invisible scenery boundary- much less than before but still unacceptable for a modern PC sim.

I only had time to test out once since the update came out. Did a flight that lasted about 15 minutes. I had a freeze of 10+ seconds 3 times in that period. Once on initial taxi out, once in the air, and once on final.

Very annoying.

A timestamp of exactly when it happens in the video would be useful.

I see the same thing happening at every airport I land at. I’m not flying in dev mode, but I’m using DX12 and DLSS (just updated to the latest version).

Are these default airports that you approach or you have them as addon in community folder? That seems like it’s trying to load the airport textures. Could be related to your TLOD and LOD. If you could share your settings?

I bet this is caused by the old autogen refresh step at the airport boundaries during approach, as it usually happens around those 5 nm away from runway. In the past (including current SU14) that results in autogen vanishing for less than 1 second and spawning again from scratch inside those areas only, so not beyond them.

The whole airport itself should be already cached more than 5 nm away from runway because you can see tower and runway lights before the freeze happens in your video so I don“t think the airport is the one that causes the issue. On the other hand I don“t see any new objects being created anywehere so probably autogen ones are simply reloaded again in one go, which could explain the sudden workload increase and the freeze.

I never understood the reason behind that extra autogen refresh step. It shouldn“t be required as scenery was already cached and displayed prior to that step.

Cheers

I’ve tried adjusting those settings, and it hasn’t seemed to have any effect. I’ve also tried lowering the ground traffic settings, and that hasn’t made any difference either. I don’t have any addon airports in my community folder… those I’m landing at are all default.

Same here. I assess it as a feature.

No one would believe me if I say that I didn’t even have a single smooth landing after the sim update 10 due to this darn bug despite having a decent gaming rig.
I really miss the sim update 9 where I had the best sim smoothness.
looking forward to more of the beta builds but I’m already sure those will get me nowhere just like the previous sim updates.

Default airpot.

Same here, it seems worse with the latest beta and the load spike seems to happen further out from the airport.

I think Asobo is at the point t hat this performance related issue are going to be fix in FS2024 first

I’ve been having this type of freeze (a.k.a. ā€œstutterā€) when approaching large airports since pre-WU16, as reported here and here.

Turning off the Rolling Cache has significantly reduced stuttering on my PC in build 1.37.5.0 and eliminated freezes / stutters on final approach (so far!) as reported here.
