20 fps on 3440x1440 ultra 5900x 6800xt

Let MSFS reset your graphics settings, see what happens…

Ill try to delete UserCfg.opt once more

Just go into options and choose default

If you mean press F12 in the menu, ive done that  zero performance difference… also tried to delete flightsimulator.cfg and Usercfg.opt in the roaming folder manually after shutting down the sim, and its still zero difference performance wise

Ill have a look inside the file to see if something logical can be changed there

The last thing i”m thinking of…

Maybe you have enabled variable refreshrate in Windows 10? If so, turn it off…

Ok, so you’re still comparing it to games and if you’ve been around the sim world and hardware world as long as you state you have, you’ll know or have an idea where the problem is?

Couple of Q’s

  1. Are you 100% certain your rig is setup for simulation, not games but simulation?
  2. Did you switch off the online functionality such as PG and Bing data and restart the sim.
  3. Simulators benefit greatly from a fresh reboot to clear out any ram still occupied by closed programs, are you rebooting each time?
  4. How often are you seeing performance lags, every flight, highly populated areas, clear and cloudy skies, aircraft type etc?
  5. How’s the sim perform when everything is set to medium and multiplayer is off?
  6. How does the sim perform including loading times when all addons are removed (200 is a tad high for any setup, unless it’s Vatsim)

I encourage you to go through each question and test where you don’t already know the answer.

I’m also unsure but I believe AMD processors will benefit once DX12 releases.

his rig must be very capable

Nope, its off

Im not saying that i am a god amongst men when it comes to pc, however, i consider myself pretty capable  But that does not mean that i cant screw something up somewhere.

  1. My rig is setup for games… not applications… i dont install stuff i dont need, i dont enable windows features i dont need, i update to stable drivers as they are released, how one sets up a pc for simulation and not gaming is beyond me tbh.

  2. Yes, no difference in performance… im also on a 200/200 mBit connection.

  3. No i dont. ive tried, but loading back in wether pc is restarted or not gives me the excact same fps.

  4. It is in absolutly every condition… Only thing affecting in terms of settings are the TerrainLOD. even in the game`s main menu with no flight loaded or started, terrainLOD affects framerate.

  5. Excactly the same as with MP on. i can set the preset to Low end, set renderscale to 30, crank terrainLOD to 200 and still only have 20fps

  6. I dont have any addons installed right now… not even liveries or bushtrip/landing challenges or airports where i dont fly locally. just the planes i own with the stock livery

Time will tell when DX12 gets integrated to the sim i guess  like fsx dx9 to 10 :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit:

Doublechecked content manager, 31 installed, 201 not installed. I own the premium deluxe edition

Low end preset, renderscale 30 TerrainLOD set to 200

Ok, so question 5 is screaming that’s the issue based on your answer. Did you restart the PC after you lowered all the settings?

If you did then the issue is with your rig, you missed something or configured it wrong. Everything on low and still getting poor performance is one of the clearest indicators of a mis configured rig, either by drivers or components.

One other question I forgot to add. Do you still get the same performance when running at 1080p, 720p?

To clarify, the difference between a sim setup and a PC setup is the following:

  1. Using tested drivers, not the most stable. For example in VR I’m on Nvidia driver 457.30, not the latest stable one.
  2. Fresh boot and open the sim, no checking emails or opening up Chrome (it shouldn’t even be on there anyway)
  3. No startup programs including the infamous one drive
  4. HAGS off, graphics settings optimised for performance, not quality.
  5. The only thing that should be running is the sim.
  6. Over clocking isn’t the greatest idea. I run stock and never had CTD.
  7. No other applications installed apart from sim related - keeps your registry clean.
  8. SSD everything
  9. 32gb minimum if running 4K on ultra using non nvidia cards

There are some others but I’m away from the computer right now - about to go fly IRL.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

in your case I would try an opt out process.

First: change GPU’s between your old rig and the new one.
If the 1080ti will run better than the 6800xt then its not the cpu, the ram the mobo.

And so on. Best is to have an testplatform for this job.

Build me one after having trouble earlier last year. Finaly I found that I have had buy two defective mobo’s. First one have an PCI Slot failure, the second I dont remember.

Then with the 3rd mobo from another brand all problems are gone. Took me 2 months and lot of nerves and buying/rma/rebuy and so on.

Another thing (I dont want to heat up the discussion but its my honest experience) is, that amd systems always took a lot more maintenance because of the sheer endless flood of bios and driver updates.

And just another thing is that cores count not so much in msfs than in cyberpunk for example. cyberpunk always knows what happens next, its an almost scripted game. msfs recreates itself in every second so the mainthread limitation becomes logical aa there must be a rope to hangle on. The game could not know in wich direction you will steering at next and unlike simracing you not only have to calculate an hose to be within but the whole sky. There for single core speed and strenght have this great impact.

good luck!

edit: nothing special with msfs. I have three m.2, one for system/install, one for game data, one for cache/page files. So if you have slots left, try, they are cheap meanwhile.

No issue with my rig… every other game runs just fine. What you are calling setting a pc up for simulation, i call setting up for gaming, so im with you there.

1.i was on optional drivers… went to stable to see if things improved frameratewise… they did not. also while troubleshooting the system, i prefer to be on a stable driver/s.

  1. A bit excessive i think, but thats your way of doing things  not using chrome, im on firefox

  2. ofc not… like i said, i turn off all windows features i dont need to improve windows performance. including windows game mode. Only programs i have on startup is for performance… gpu tweak for setting the overclock profile for example.

  3. HAGS? I only install drivers… not the bloaty software pack. like i said, every other game i have installed runs just fine and is performing well.

  4. Yes… Back to optimizing pc for gaming

  5. I dont run stock… i overclock as much as possible… for gaming optimization. Dont have any CTD`s in this sim, or any other game, so its free extra performance as long as its stable.

  6. Not with you there. Im not that HARDCORE of a simmer that i dedicate 3000+ usd of hardware to a single game

  7. NVME m.2 m8  2.5" ssd`s are slow

  8. im on 32 gigs… but enlighten me… how does being on a nvidia card improve system RAM requirements for 4k gaming? im curious.

Enjoy Your flight

Why change cards? every other game runs just fine. its just msfs that is causing issues.

Sorry to hear about you MB faults… that must suck in these hardware deprived times

You can heat up a discussion as much as you want m8, as long as its not getting personal  At that point, im out.

my 2tb 970 evo plus does everything just fine… no need for more disks when it does 3500 read 3300 write

LNTJF… maybe… this helps?

Looked at it, there is nothing there that i have not allready tried, thnx for posting though

I hope you’ll find the solution to play the ̶g̶a̶m̶e̶, simulator without problems…

I used to have this issue, 20 fps, no matter if I had ultra settings or the lowest settings, fps changed perhaps by 3-5 fps. I tested at ENAL (my home airport, so has that addon scenery) and I tried in other airports without any special scenery, like ENSN, but performance was bad. I play on an ultrawide 2560x1080, and I have 4 monitors hooked up in total, the ultrawide which is used as main monitor, MSFS and other games are not stretched across multiple monitors. The 3 other monitors are 1080p.

My old computer was a AMD 2700X with a GTX 1070 ti, and I got good 40-ish fps on mid to mid-high settings. I upgraded to AMD 5800X and a 6800 XT with 32GB of 3600cl16 ram, and got 20-ish fps regardless of settings. All other games or graphical programs are performing very well.

But testing it now on version 1.15.7.0, it seems to perform better? I get about 30-40 fps both external and internal view. This is improved from the previous version, so seems there has been something to resolve some of the performance issues people had.

Thnx for sharing  glad to hear you are getting better frames than me.

What graphic settings are you on now? ultra? im on 32gig 3600 cl16 as well. (16-16-16-36) so we are pretty darn close in terms of hardware. I guess 4 more cores are worthless without dx12 at this point in time

oh well… at least im getting 1050 fps while loading into the main menu from desktop :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, in my case, it almost seems like it doesnt matter which settings I run. There is only about 5 fps difference from LOW END preset, to ULTRA preset… I basically run Ultra now, but turn off motion blur, and bump the instrument refresh to high. I think the last update gave me about 10-ish more fps, but I still think it’s far from what I should get. My GPU utilization is only around 50%, so it’s clearly CPU limited in some way. And I presume that in single core performance, the 5800x and 5900x are almost the same. At least I went from 20-25-ish fps to 30-35-ish fps. It’s a little more playable, but I do think there is some optimization issues going on. I mean, how do they expect to run this on an Xbox, if not even the most powerful desktop computers can run it? lol.
