Anyone setting any goals or resolutions for themselves in the sim for the new year?
I decided I would really like to do better at tracking and logging my flights, and whenever possible having persistent aircraft locations/states. I went ahead and signed up for a month-to-month Volanta subscription to help motivate that, we’ll see if it sticks.
I also hope to maintain a good balance between two VAs of which I’m a part (one for cargo, one for passengers) while also progressing my career in MSFS 2024’s Career mode.
Just curious what, if any, are some of your goals and plans for the new year in the sim!
That’s a really good question as I had not thought about it like that. I did just repurchase MSFS2024 and have made the commitment to stop all MSFS2020 flying and fully switch to MSFS2024. So, I guess that’s technically a New Year’s Resolution.
In regards to flying specifically? I’m resolving to keep everything much more simple. I realized while disconnecting myself from MSFS2020, I had complicated things so much it became a burden to keep everything straight. I had so many mods, asset packs, freeware scenery tweaks, freeware airports, freeware planes, countless liveries, texture mods, avionics tweaks, FSLTL models and injector, AIG models… I was paying for Navigraph, but not using it much.
I was managing most things through add-on linker, but there was so much there, it became tedious. I had all of these dependencies set up to enable/disable but they would sometimes get stale or become out of sync if I removed or added or renamed something that was updated.
When I switched to MSFS2024, I went to fs.to and purged all of my download history to start from zero. I purged all of my 2020 add-on content, reset all of my add-on linker auto-launch tools, and started a new blank directory for MSFS2024 add-ons. I’m going to be very selective and stick to things made natively for MSFS2024 and fly the sim as vanilla as possible.
Many of the improvements in MSFS2024 make this decision easier, especially the flight planner and LIDO/FAA charts.
Last year’s resolution was about developing and sticking to procedures for the aircraft I rotate through each month. That work was well worth it and done. 2024 was also about 2024 and I participated actively in the first System Updates (SU1 & SU2). Thanks to all who carried the torch(es) through SU3 & SU4; life gets in the way and I just couldn’t take those missions on.
2025 will be about enjoying all that 24 can do for me and the kind of flying I like to enjoy.
24 will make my 26 that simple, and fun! Happy holidays and all the best wishes for your New Years!
