Thank you!
Nice event. There were at least around 30 planes participating.
I will stay in Ormond Beach (KOMN)
I’m bugging out already. Started two hours late so decided to do a touch & go at the first few waypoints to catch up.
Maybe I just don’t understand how this works but I got within 20 miles of Ormond and was still at 13000 feet; no approach instructions from ATC, so I cancelled IFR and did a very steep descent and managed to touch town on the runway and take off again. Now whenever I engage the autopilot it puts me in a near vertical climb (and the inevitable stall), even if I just tell it to level off
Not really understanding the whole Discord thing either. I was really hoping for a chat channel so I could ask people’s advice there but following the instructions above just dumps me into a voice channel, which people keep joining and leaving without speaking.
I’m going back to single player and VFR. That wasn’t even a choice in the ATC window after I’d started a flight with all the above waypoints. IFR only.
Very confused. Probably too old and thick for this
I cant really help you with the ATC or Autopilot problems. Both work fine for me.
But I can say that I learned a few things today about event management which I didn’t know before. So I will be making a few changes to the event for the following days including organizing only one or two voice channels made for the event without using the program since we are not using community ATC anyway. Also I will try to keep the event a bit more organized i.e. flying in a group from airport to airport.
I’ve made a note of all the waypoints and will be making the trip solo at some point in the near future
Sounds good @Jolly9901, I joined for the first couple of legs. With my limited experience still a lot of fun!
The separate voice channels are a great idea, gives it more a group feeling instead of the jumping between channels. Looking forward to jumping in for a couple of more legs in the following days!
I had fun on this trip. Made it all the way to KRIC.
Learned some new things. The Bonanza G36 uses fuel in each tank separately. I didn’t know that and before I made ti to my fuel stop in Charleston I had to land in a field. Lesson learnt, get to know your plane. This of course despite my trial flight from KMLB to KISM before the event.
Otherwise it was a fun trip with all those other planes around. And I enjoyed the scenery.
Thanks for organizing the event.
Concluding my STAGE ONE of the 28° North Atlantic Crossing Event
759NM Total Miles
Started at Melbourne Intl. (KMLB) Finished at Easton/Newnam (KESN)
Duration/Time: 9hrs 20minutes
Big thanks to @Jolly9901 for organising and to everyone who took part today.
Catch you tomorrow for some more miles!
What were you flying?
I myself have been flying the C172 Skyhawk with G1000, I’ve seen some more people flying with the same plane, 2 TBM’s a few Beechcrafts and a few Bonanzas
I flew the Bonanza G36
Just completed a night flight from Fermont to Schefferville. The sun was just about to rise as I came in to land.
Now for the big one, 540nm across Quebec.
Just landed at EDPM. I did several night time flights, including this one. Try runway 6, at night if possible. It’s a blast!
The leg across the North Atlantic has been the worst. Not much to see, so I flew at between 30-40,000ft. Greenland was as you would expect a mostly barren white wasteland.
Concluding my STAGE SIX of the 28° North Atlantic Crossing Event
Total Miles: 1,842 NM
Stage Miles: 165 NM
Stage Started: Fermont Airport (CYFV)
Stage Finished: Schefferville (CYKL)
Total Duration/Time: ~20hrs 55minutes
Plan for tomorrow: 15:00z the long 540nm leg to Lqaluit! ! Appreciate its a working day for many but its a Public Holiday in the UK hence the earlier take-off time.
For those ICAO challenged, Salt’s group is going to cross the Hudson Bay in Canada today, to the last stop before crossing over to Greenland.
This is the longest leg on the trip! Wish us luck that we don’t fall asleep on the leg!
Well that was weird.
Tuned to KESN tower and couldn’t talk to them because the ATIS kept blathering on over the top. Managed to get landing clearance but was unable to acknowledge, until they finally gave up on me. Now I’m off the runway but ground won’t offer me any taxi to parking options, just taxi to takeoff.
Oh well. Time to restart the sim and start a new flight from KESN. did anybody else get ATIS when tuning to the tower?
I didn’t do that leg. But I have gotten that before. Try tuning your COM2 to a different frequency than tower. If that’s already the case, I don’t know what to tell you.
I haven’t had them not offer me taxi though. A restart is probably all you needed.
That was one of the things I tried, out of desperation more than anything else. Restarting meant I was able to start the flight from parking. Once I got to the runway and tuned to Tower, all seemed OK but as soon as I got into the air the ATIS kicked in agian.
Also, if you tune to ATIS there’s nothing there. Looks like they’ve just put it on the wrong frequency at this airport.
Current weather at CYKL. Gonna be another low and slow if it doesn’t clear up.
To the north looks a bit more promising.
Looks like it’s gonna be around 3500’ cruise level again.
Pleasant surprise today. Was following another player in on Final, and they took too long to get off the runway, and ATC told me to go around. A rather enjoyable little diversion.
Concluding our STAGE SEVEN of the 28° North Atlantic Crossing Event
Total Miles: 2,826 NM
Stage Miles: 984 NM
Stage Started: Schefferville (CYKL)
Stage Finished: Nuuk (BGGH)
Total Duration/Time: ~29hrs 45minutes
Plan for tomorrow: 20:30z for the next leg from Nuuk (BGGH) > Kulusuk (BGKK) [379NM]
Catch you tomorrow!
What I’ve enjoyed is catching the same names from time to time. I saw one person while over Greenland, then went to bed a bit further on. When I woke up the next day, off to my right I see the same person. It’s kind of like bumping into commuters, seeing the same people from day to day.
