I’m a little out of the loop on things but does anyone know what the general verdict is on 3rd party addons at this point, ie: orbx airports, just flight aircraft, other aircraft?
I’m assuming the most ideal situation is to wait until there is a new orbx client that has a 2024 area, or updates from just flight and other vendors to email notifications?
I did test a few orbx airports and they seemed ok, but who knows if will lead to ctds
There are at least two different threads in the Aircraft forum trying to track 3rd party aircraft compatibility issues. Many aircraft see to work, though some have issues ranging from minor (dim displays or lighting) to major (sound doesn’t work, aircraft gauges non-functional, sim crashes). I don’t have links right off-hand but both threads have been active in the last day or so.
I don’t know if there’s a similar thread tracking scenery issues. I personally haven’t run into any - all my Community folder sceneries seem to work, and all my available Marketplace sceneries seemed to stream and work fine, at least before Microsoft turned off that functionality a few days ago.
There’s a list for scenery at FSElite but it’s perhaps not being updated as often as we’d like…
Otherwise it’s just a case of keeping an eye on seller sites such as IniBuilds, Contrail and Orbx — who so far are very quickly updating the status of their third-party products based on developer feedback/testing. As far as I know, though, there are currently NO 100% native FS2024 products, with the exception of Ini’s YBBN (yet to be released).
im sorta re-using the same path from the 2020 install for community, trying to avoid doubling the space needed, i have almost 1tb of community folder addons as is it , not sure thats the best plan to re-use though, if it updates for 2024 but breaks compatibility with 2020 (still in use)
This would be a good time to learn MSFS Addon LInker. There’s an FS2024-compatible version out as well. I keep all my addons, no matter from what store, sorted into folders for Aircraft, Scenery, Liveries, etc. and then link them into the Community folder for either FS2020 or 2024 depending on which I’m flying. Addon Linker can support an essentially unlimted number of “source” folders so if you choose to have Orbx or whichever store app download into a custom library, you can then link that library to whichever Community folder(s) you want, ‘20 or ‘24.
Yeah i use the latest add on linker, its been essential for years.
But i dont have the space to duplicate all 1tb+ community folders for 2024, so thats why im re-rusing the paths to 2020 and slowly adding them in one by one at least in addon linker.
I only tried a handful for now.
Im assuming you have separate files for 2024 and 2020 (cloned?) and you specify that 2024 path with orbx along with the 2020 ones?
Unfortunately for me i sorta split my 4tB SSD into 2, 3tb for msfs and 1 for dcs, with the 3 only having about 500gb free To go 8tb ssd is a big expense these days.
Not at all. Aside from a handful of 2024-specific addons that I have (from IniBuilds), I’m using the same source files for both 2020 and 2024. I simply link into either or both Community folders. Symlinks take up nearly no space, so no need to duplicate storage.
Nothing I have from Orbx is 2024-specific or has been specifically updated for 2024 (at least as of yesterday). I have an Orbx external library folder that I simply point Addon Linker to as one of the source folders I can link content out it into whichever sim I’m flying.
