3rd Person View Available

Just a heads up there are no options for Xbox. Under advanced options it just says experimental.

As well when trying to turn on model matching you cannot access that option for multiplayer in the “graphics” menu. Xbox still only has HDR on or off. So tired of seeing only bonanzas, TBMs and A320s flying around. This might be the final straw for me. Again Xbox is just a watered down version of what PC members experience. This is a Series X and this is what we get?

God Awful LOD as well. My pilots and copilots are Minecraft characters. At certain zooms. Have to be zoomed all the way in for them to load. Cmon. Not even a on or off switch. Just “no model matching for you.” That’s a WILD dev decision. At least 2020 tried and I would see some models match. This is just off by default? What are we even doing? Why such regressions? See images above.

3rd person works well with my Xbox controller on my Series S.

I haven’t got 3rd-person to work yet either. These controls are very confusing! Also, has anyone got any of the run commands to work (e.g. toggle run)?

Thanks. That works but there’s a white dot in the center of the screen while in 3rd person. Anyway to remove that?

Update: I found it, it’s under Settings > Accessibility> Show the white dot cursor in freelook.

Yes, check the Settings > General section.

I’m not on the sim at the moment, but it might be under the flight interface section (or whatever it is called).

There is a specific setting regarding the dot.

Same here. Too bad.

Those are great! I really love the second one.

Somehow I missed the very first post in the thread. D’oh.

Working now.

(Too bad the P-38 is glitchy in the new sim).

It’s really nice to shut off the plane and walk away from it. Also gives some perspective how big that Draco is

What is this? Airplanes making more airplanes?

Here is my solution to the 3rd person view problem

  1. Go to Settings > General > Advanced Options and ensure that Allow 3rd Person View Camera is enabled (labeled "Experimental)

  2. Start flight and with aircraft on the ground select; Enter Walkaround Mode: [Take Control of Character]" (default: Shift + C).

  3. While in Walkaround mode; select “Cockpit/External view mode” (Default: “delete” key.

This will take you to the 3rd person view. The “character” movements are the standard WASD keys. Mouse movement will give view direction.
Although it’s not intuitive and is confusing, it worked for me.

Doesn’t work in VR, or even in 2D if the Virtual Desktop app is running.

Anyone else see the screen dim to black and back like 5 times in a row each time you switch to/from character to/from aircraft cockpit?

I can interrupt it sometimes if I walk away from the plane quick enough but jumping back in to the plane it’s unstoppable.

What is the keyboard shortcut (PC) for kneeling?

With 2024 default keyboard mapping it is “c”.

FOR PEOPLE WITH THE PROBLEM: “IT DOESN’T WORK! WTH?!?”

like me…

1st You need to set the option in “Advanced menu”: “Allow 3rd person view camera”
2nd You need to get out of the cockpit for walk around
3nd You need to toggle it with a mislabeled key bind.

Meaning… you need exit into character mode by using the door or pressing the “TAKE CONTROL OF CHARACTER” key which is normally Shift+C and then press the “COCKPIT/EXTERNAL VIEW MODE” switch key which is normally END key on keyboard.

Like many controls of MSFS2024 this is undocumented and found “accidentally” by players that then assume is logical and can’t be bothered to properly analyse the problem and provide a proper explanation.

So… you don’t “switch twice to external” or “it just works”. You need to be in character mode (the walk around mode) and then press a key bind that basically turns 1st person to 3rd person but “labeled” unintelligently “cockpit/external view mode”. The key bind “COCKPIT/EXTERNAL VIEW MODE” can switch to external view mode while in cockpit but is different than “TOGGLE COCKPIT VIEW” and “TOGGLE EXTERNAL VIEW” key binds that don’t turn the 3rd person view avatar on or off!! And obviously can create a ton of confusion for people already using these two commands from MSFS2020.

The whole control scheme in 2020 and 2024 is a messy affair. For example you have controls to control the camera view that are normal and lockable. Lockable means you can lock and unlock by a key bind to lock or unlock the said view (cockpit drone etc), or you can find yourself you do that by using cursor toggle key binds or cursor mode. And on top of that you have the variations:

TOGGLE
ON
OFF
SET

That don’t work as you expect every time… some don’t work at all Some work partially.

Another example you can be in character mode and have the cursor shown but not active and camera can still turn and pan around or shown and active and the camera stops panning and turning.

Add flickering and poor mouse input from time to time and you get a total mayhem. Just take a look at the fist of key binds only for the cursor!!! (not default keys in the picture but my reassignments!!) Only CHARACTER CURSOR MODE TOGGLE (in the middle in the picture) can turn on and off the cursor while in “Walk Around Mode” but only in 1st person. None of the 3 do anything while in 3rd person!
C R A Z Y !

Yes that would work unless you use VR. Does not work in VR. And doesn’t not even work in 2D if you have Virtual Desktop Streamer app running in taskbar for some reason. Probably would be weird in Vr anyway as the camera does not turn with your character.

I tested it for now in 2D and works with VD running. I will test it in VR but I don’t expect it to work because all is weird. In 2D sometimes you can see the 1st person body in walk around mode and sometimes you don’t see it. It seems random for now…

Then I have a similar question/request for you guys. How can you display your character/avatar (face) on the “Career” menu tab in the main menu? I see this at several videos but I dont seem to get it working on my side. Please let me know.

Thanks. Yet another challenge for the community.
