4K, 48 inch TV or 4K, 28 inch monitor

Hey guys.

Is there someone kind who knows these things and can help me out?

The real answer I seek is will I have less FPS on a
tv because of its size?

My system is is I9-10900f, RTX 3080, 64 gb RAM

No. The FPS depend on the display resolution you choose, not the output device

Physical size of the display means nothing. It’s all about the number of pixels you’re pushing. If you’re comparing a 4K 28" monitor and a 4K 48" TV, both run at 3840x2160 and performance will be the same in terms of fps. Depending on the TV, there may be input lag, as some TVs just aren’t good with games, but fps will be the same.

Now if you’re talking about a 1080p 28" monitor, that’s pushing 25% the number of pixels, and yes, that will definitely run faster.

Thx for your help. Seems I’m going BIG then. LG has a fantastic gaming tv LG OLED CX at about the same price as their 4K 28 inch monitor

I use a Sony 55" TV with HDR enabled and it’s just like if I’m IN the cockpit.

LG:s OLED CX series has a 1ms input lag, the same as their flagship monitor

Now that’s a review. Man I’m overhyped now. Have a 32 AOC 2K monitor I’m not very happy with.

There are some good gaming TVs out there. Most general purpose TVs aren’t though, although they’re getting better as technology catches up. There will be a noticeable lag between your physical input and it actually registering on screen.

I have a 10 year old 58" TV in my living room that’s terrible when it comes to input lag. I don’t have a console so it makes no difference to me. I only use it for watching movies. But it’s controlled with a PC, and the mouse lag is very noticeable and very annoying. I would never be able to game on that. At least not a game that requires accuracy and tight timing.

Sure for a 10 year old tv I get that. But 1ms is on par with the best gaming monitors so there shouldn’t be any difference?

Most modern TVs are ok with input lag. Or they’ll at least have a low latency mode where all onboard processing effects are turned off to reduce that latency. Some cheap ones still don’t though, but most manufacturers have realized by now that people use their TVs for console gaming and have adjusted accordingly. Now it’s more of a matter of how little lag you get vs having a TV you can game on and one you can’t. Naturally, the better ones tend to cost more.

I’ve been using a 48" LG CX as my desktop monitor since before FS 2020 was released. It’s awesome. I also have a Reverb G2, but still prefer the OLED with Track IR instead. I think you’ll love the CX.

Wow. Sounds really awesome! Since there are no 4K LG monitors to buy where I live I’ll def will check out that LG CX. Thanx for your review

LG CX is fantastic with the sim. I run it at 4K and with HDR with a 2080ti and looks amazing so you’ll have no issues with your rig. I don’t see any lag at all, if anything it is better than my monitor.

If you are in the UK, Curry’s/PC World have the 55” and the 48” at the same price at the moment.

I’m using an LG 55UN7300 4k TV with my 4790K/16GB/2070 Super computer since September and I love it. 2 ft from me, and like the other person up a ways said, it’s like you’re sitting in the cockpit. TV cost me $379 at Costco. I haven’t noticed an lag issues at all.

I’m in Sweden and they are at the same price here too. The thing is I intendend to mount it on the wall and there will only be my desk between me and the tv so I’m gonna be pretty close up. That’s why I think 48 will be more than enough

Nice to hear. I’m gonna be 1,5 meter (sry, don’t know how much in feet) from it so I’m a bit concerned that it’s too close.

I sit approximately 1 meter away from mine.

48" CX reviewed as a TV,

48" CX reviewed as a Monitor,

I have 2839 hours on my CX, used only as a desktop monitor. No burn-in. Haven’t done anything to avoid burn-in, other than run a black desktop background.

EDIT: I see that you’re using a 3080, I have a 3090. You’ll be able to set your desktop to 120hz @ 32bit RGB 10bpc with Full dynamic range, because those cards have HDMI 2.1

I assume no headaches as you have such a positive review.

I saw a review where a guy used it for a month and got headaches. It has to be said that he sat around 10 hrs a day and only a half a meter away. That clearly is too much and too close :joy:

Once Microsobo release proper multi-monitor support, I plan to upgrade my cockpit to be surrounded with 3 x 48" TVs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Until then, my 34" UWQHD will have to do.
