4K, 48 inch TV or 4K, 28 inch monitor

If you fly airliners, go for a 48 inch TV (50-55 is better). If you fly GA aircraft, a 28-inch monitor is enough.

Hahaha, thatā€™s insane. What a experience itā€™s gonna be

Pure airliner here. Sitting 1 meter away from a 55 inch would give me a seizure. Already wortied about 48 but I feel more and more confident after all your praises

I was thinking about a curved TV. For me 50 is enough. However, today I better think about VR.

Any concerns regarding burn in with the OLED?

Wondering if anyone is using a Samsung TU7000 series 4k TV as monitor. If yes, what is your experience?

I have been looking at getting a Samsung 50" TU7000 TV, but couldnā€™t convince myself just yet.

PS. I live in Cebu, Philippines, where tech is old and overpriced. Meaning TU7000 series is still the current product sold in official stores, at prices north of 400 USD.

I donā€™t understand the point of using a large TV if you sitting close from it when you play, a smaller screen gives a better picture at close distance as its pixels are much smaller.

I have two cheap TCL 4k tv, 43" and 50". I found using the 43" one works better for me flying the sim at 4k, because of higher pixel per inch. With the 50" one I can easily see the individual pixel (?) on the screen at 2 feet, my preferred viewing distance. RTX 2080 Super, Ultra 90% render scaling.

There is definitely such a thing as too large, and if sitting too close, youā€™ll be able to see the pixel grid on the panel.

That said, one nice advantage is scale. If you get the right size TV (about 48-50" seems to be the magic size) and youā€™re sitting at 1.5 to 2 metres away, things will appear about life size. Look at your cockpit in any plane on even a ā€˜largeā€™ 34" monitor and you quickly realize all your instruments and everything is much smaller in scale than it would appear in the real world. On a large TV, that scales up to closer to real life size, and fills your peripheral vision as well, which combines to increase immersion.

I am currently building my triple setup.

NOTE: I will be using my setup with aluminum frame cockpit since i play driving sim as well.

SCREEN :

  • I was between 43-50 inch. Your distance from the screen is really important. For example in my case Flight sim look fantastic. Better immersion for me (than VR) but i still need triple screen support (which will come in the future)
  • Distance important because i adjust FOV according to that and this will change the FPS.
  • 4k TV, do not go below 43 inch, you will not find good one. If you are gonna kiss the screen 27-28 may help you, or you can go Ultrawide screen.
  • If you have money you will buy LG C1 (new CX) this is out of question. Best visual quality. (i am not gonna buy 3x C1s bcs it will cost me more than 5000$ with 5 year extended warranty.)
  • if you are going to play Only flight sim it will be better to find a monitor with 4:4:4 chroma 4k and 60 hz will be enough. (Chroma subsampling - Wikipedia) Because of the pixel layout you may have problems with text.
  • in some scenarios IPS screens can be better in some games (if you are interested in scenery) than VA panels. Be careful if you do not go OLED.

You can find stats to C1 here. (Do not believe that 1 ms)

Long story short if you can afford go buy LG C1 combine it with high end GPU and live the dream.

Personal opinion, i prefer good quality 43 inc if you are too close, and 48-50 inches if you close 2-3 feet away. I am doingm y test runs with my TCL 50" S535 TV. It is 400$-500$ Tv and Still Unbelievable !

I was in this position a few weeks ago of wanting to upgrade my monitor. I did look at getting a big TV, and by big I mean 43 inches, anything bigger than that is just too big for my desk and too big for the distance I sit at it. In the end I decided to go for a Samsung 32 inch monitor. Its a really nice size and great quality for the price. TVā€™s have less of a pixel density and if you use your computer for things other than gaming, photo and movie editing for example, then theyā€™re not ideal.

I donā€™t know why thereā€™s not much choice when it comes to larger size PC monitors though. Even at 32 inch the choice is pretty limited. I would have gone for a 40 inch monitor if there were any available that didnā€™t break the bank. 40 inch is a great size for gaming and general PC work, big but not overly enormous.

Thatā€™s exactly why I went with a 34" UWQHD. Itā€™s almost as wide as a 42" TV, but great for stuff other than gaming / simming too.
