Varjo drop price ½.

Wow, this is a price drop.
For simming you must add one base station.
If you are new to VR, you also must play Half Life Alyx.
So you must add 2nd base station and 2 controllers.
Then you can compare the price with the competition.
Unless you have the base stations and controllers already, or you already completed HLA (so for simming you will stick with just one base station).

Price cut starts today. It’s at least a serious contender for the best consumer level VR headset right now.

They must be feeling the competition from Pimax. Sales have probably dropped off a cliff. I think most people would still go for the Crystal unless they have a base station already. Anyway, it’s good to see the competition hotting up.

The more popular theory is that they are clearing stock as they could be announcing a successor soonish.

Imagine the pain if you just recently bought one at full price.

If only Pimax would do the same now …

I hear the Varjo is the best in quality but who wants base stations ?
They should have drop the price right before the Pimax came out and maybe they would have got some sales.
There are a few more headsets coming out, so now we just have to sit back until the dust settles.
Quest 3 for me until all other headsets comes out in 2024.
Besides I don’t know if I want to put more money in MSFS when they are not moving the VR experience forward.

I hope they do. The more we have, the better. But if the current Aero was selling well, they wouldn’t have needed this drastic price cut.

They’ll have a rough idea of when the next headset will be released and would have attempted to adjust production so that the current model sells out just before the new one is released. My guess is that their sales are now much lower than forecast, and so they need this price drop to sell anything at all.

I just looked at the pricing!

Varjo XR-3 €6,495.00 Excl. tax + a 1-year Varjo VR Subscription at €1495
Varjo VR-3 €3,645.00 Excl. tax + a 1-year Varjo VR Subscription at €795
Varjo Aero €990.00 Excl. tax

Who would have thought at a 2k price and an abysmal vertical FOV, and no proper audio or mic!

If they do release a new headset, it will be interesting to see how they compete with Crystal. Most Crystal owners seem happy with the resolution and colour. Varjo would have to match that, then add something extra if they want to charge more than Pimax. I guess that would have to be FOV.

and no inside-out tracking!

The headset was worth every single cent before the price drop, and even if Crystal seems to have caught up (almost 2 years after the introduction of the Aero), I am hoping that another model is on its way.
PS: I am not using the VR headset for anything else than flight simulation, and I had at least 3 different brands and model before it (HTC x 2, Samsung x 1, HP x 2).

Literally the reason why i never bothered with the Index or any other non inside-out tracking headset. I have a couple hundred in VR games and i find myself playing DCS the most in VR. The amount of times i play beatsaber or other VR games that require me to stand up is pretty minimal so i have no need.

But man the Varjo is a nice headset. For $1000 i’d still rather get an Index: at least it comes with the base stations in that case.

I think the price drop on the Aero is because of the BigScreen Beyond VR headset that has just been released at $1000. It is bigger than the size of wwi pilots goggles, but not by a whole lot, and very light weight, and super duper comfortable.

I’ve seen previews and reviews on Youtube: they like the imaging better than the HP G2. They don’ think it’s up to Aero’s image standards overall, but better in some respects.

I think the tiny size and comfort will make it hard to compete with for sales to consumers. The release version added a top strap to make it more stable on the head (the tiny lenses have to be perfectly centered on the eyes).

He made this video about 3 days before his “Aero price drop” video.

yeah. but you still need base stations and controllers for the bigscreen vr if you intend to use it for more than just headtracking in sims. For me, still not worth it as I would prefer to have the option to wave my arms around like an idiot in Beatsaber or Blade and Sorcery or a game like VTOL VR where controllers are useful for such a flying game; but i don’t want to shell out the $400 for stations and controllers. for a VR enthusiast with the base stations and controllers already or you’re a hardcore flight simmer/sim racer finishing out their simpit then either option is completely valid right now.

The Valve controller pricing is so ridiculous. Who wants to pay over 300 euro/USD for two controllers, even used? And they look pretty ugly/too big
