5080 and Frame Gen Query

Evening all,

Apologies in advance if thread started within the incorrect sub category.

Recently back flying on 2020 and in the process of moving over to 24 pending new fibre broadband install.

My question is regarding frame gen on 2020. I believe at present you are required to use DX12 which the allows frame generation.

Currently I am using Frame Gen TAA. How do you enable DLSS4 on 2020? I’ve read a few posts online but 100% sure how to enable it, if at all possible.

May be a ridiculous question but I am complete an utter noob when it comes to settings and configurations.

Really appreciate your support and advice.

Hello, say, do you happen to know what version NVIDIA driver your 5080 is running on? And by what means have you been receiving driver updates? As good a place as any to start. Perhaps post more of your PC spec when you have a chance. Cheers!

Hello Nikita,

Many thanks for your response, not at my machine presently but I only updated the driver a couple of days ago via nvidia app.

RTX5080
9800x3d
64gb RAM
4tb SSD
Windows 11

Anything else needed?

Ok, one step at a time. When you back at your PC, let us know the driver version.

Hello Nikita,

According to nvidia app it’s 577.00

Ok, what happens when you select DX12 in 2020, are you able to fly with good results? And…

What about the current settings are not working for you, and/or what to you hope to achieve by enabling DLSS4 in 2020? A few days from now we may be presented with SU16, so now may not be the best time to make major changes without knowing what SU16 may bring by way of new graphics settings or capabilities.

Performance is extremely poor on a mix of high and ultra settings, lowering settings further does not make any major improvements hence why investigating if DLSS4 would be any better.

Please can you characterize what poor performance looks like with your current settings? What kind of visual defects are you seeing? Also, what are your TLOD and OLOD numbers? And what kind of output device along with its maximum refresh rate?

Thank you for the support.

VRAM usage is extremely high which I know is an issue in itself, performance on most handcrafted airports is between 25 and 30 FPS - LOD/OLOD is dependant but no more than 200.

My monitor is a 34" Ultra wide with 144 refresh rate, I don’t use v-sync and settings are determined in game, not via nvidia Geforce.

Got it, thanks. What happens when you try DLSS/Quality in 577 now, as opposed to TAA? Any improvement? Also, just curious about your FG settings as I don’t use it due to a 60Hz refresh rate limitation, which thankfully you don’t have. I’m only a recent convert to DLSS/Quality from TAA but the latest drivers have been a game changer for me.

Thank you very much, I am going to check that now, will revert back shortly!

Afternoon Nikita,

Tried changing from TAA to DLSS/Quality with very little improvement.

I tested in EGLL and I can see more VRAM is being used that it should.

15gb VRAM out of 14gb available

Putting aside the numbers, how was the flight experience itself? And is there any improvement when flying not dev mode?

Oh good point, I did remain in dev mode - should I disable that? flight was fantastic until I got into EGLL - as soon as touch down, rubber bending started to happen when panning around and stutters on taxi (FPS on dev counter 22FPS)

Really appreciate the help btw.

Another question if I may, is FG supported on DX11.

Currently on DX12 but reading online that it’s a VRAM hog?

Hmmm, don’t know. I have been on DX12 since making the switch from Series X to PC.

I have read many times in the threads that there is a crash in 2020 when running DX11 in combination with the NVIDIA app, so perhaps keep that in mind if you decide to try out DX11?

I see that the SU3 beta continues with a new release today, so things are not so fast moving there. The app that got me DLSS4 in both 2020 and 2024 is called DLSS Swapper. When you have exhausted trying the settings at hand, that would be the next thing to try, but not pushing that here as you are new to settings and configurations, per your OP. OTOH it is not very difficult to get into, but going there is a whole level more ambitious than in game settings.
